Mooney tackle free kick vs St Kilda rivalled my rage from this game that night.

Second time I've ever come close to destroying the TV

I had a tantrum at a friends house. Just punched his floor for I'm not sure how long. I think my wife was considering leaving me after my pathetic display.
One of the few times in recent memory I think I've gone truly feral at the ground over a decision (wasn't real happy with the umpires in the game against North down in Geelong this year either now I think of it).

"You've just cost us the final" - Cameron Mooney to the umpire

Ironically, it was this game that brought me back into the Cats fold.

After over 25 years and pain, misery and depression I'd given up footy around '97 - I just couldn't see what benefit it was doing to my life. The heartache of loving the Cats was too much.

Ayres as coach - final straw.

Went cold-turkey, then fell in love. Very happy.

Years pass, I find myself in a pub with the TV on. Cats V Swans.

Half-way through the second quarter, that old feelings begin to stir. I'm watching with interest for the first time these young guys in the Hoops playing out of their skin. By the end of the third, I'm in love again with the Cats.

Then after the siren, there was Mooney in tears. An image that killed me then and still does. As Bobby says - it was this game that changed our fortunes. By fate I was lucky enough to share this pain, then to reap the rewards that followed.

Watched it at a pub with a bunch of mates, remember Barry Stoneham was there as well. Cats were looking pretty good.

When the siren went I stormed out and went AWOL for about an hour or so, ignoring my phone during that time. I ended up at a bar and asked for a shot and was refused service. I wasn't drunk or anything, but I must have been giving off a pretty aggro sort of a vibe.

Sure the cats were running out of legs but we dominated them, was pretty pissed off.

One of my mates wasn't with me, he was at his sister's 21st (in Geelong). Naturally a lot of cats supporters had an eye on the game. Fair to say the result was a real wet blanket and ruined the night.

Fair call by Hudo though. Imagine the feelings we all felt and having to bottle them in light of doing your job. Absolute professional

I wonder how it feels for a commentator to have your call become such a large part of the moment too, for years later. I still hear that game referred to as the "see it but I don't believe it game".

I rank 2008 worse and I would rank the 2013 prelim worse too, losing the prelim after being 20 points up at 3qtr time against our arch nemesis that would have been a bit of revenge for 2008 considering it was the Hawks flag to lose. Yeah we probably would have lost to Freo the following week but knocking the Hawks out would have made up for that.

Still have to put up with that lame line from Crawford in 2008 " THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN ABOUT"

2013 prelim still burns me the most.

Had the game won then threw it away....given the Freo Fumbles the following week, we basically gave away another flag.

Plus it was Hawthorn.....

It's a weird one. I was there, and yes I could see the scoreboard; but my gut feeling watching the game was that we were clearly not the better side and that we didn't look like winning.

When Caddy got his goal, I still felt we were being outplayed, but perhaps we could find a way to get a 'bullshit' win. It was clear our fitness was not as good as their's though - and you just can't "hang on" in modern footy.

:cry::cry::cry: I literally cannot remember the last time I've been that mad.
I truly hate that the game still gets repeated and hate even more that the match winner has been repeated #346968483374 times.

Would happily like to forget that night altogether

I went on my own to this game.

When the siren sounded I just sat there slumped for about ten minutes completely and utterly destroyed, looking around disbelieving at every other Cats fan in stony silence as Sydney fans went ape droppings.

Was convinced we were never ever going to win a premiership.

Was a surreal feeling, like a scene from a David Lynch film.

I feel sick just thinking about it again.

Thanks for dredging up bad memories, ya big jerk.

;)
I've been to the footy a couple of times on my Pat. Once when we lost bad and I wondered on the way back to the car why I gave up a family dinner for that. But never to a losing GF. Good grief! Did you get counselling!? :(

I, like most Cat fans it seems, still vividly remember that night and the aftermath. I'd been watching the game alone at home. The moment the siren went, I somberly walked to the bottle shop around the corner. The guy working there also barracked for Geelong and knew I did too.

ME: Two bottles of vodka.
HIM: Yeah, I've already started on my first...

I then went to a mate's place and I was greeted like somebody who's family member had just died. Must have had the shock and depression etched on my face.

2008 was worse, though. I was at the game but sitting alone. I got way too drunk, carried on like an idiot and got yelled at by people and then left early to go to a pub where I was greeted by some nasty friends who immediately pointed and laughed. I'm not a violent man but I had to retreat to the bathroom for five minutes to compose myself and avoid an assault charge!

All of the above- in 2005 taking one injured ruck who was off the ground in the last 1/4 and in 2008 one or two injured players and putting one of them on H9odge.

Went to the 2008 GF on my own too. After missing out on a ticket in 2007. Oh, and going in 1989, 1992, and 1994. Then missed 2009 because wife was 9 months pregnant and I was living interstate. Thank Christ I saw us finally win one in 2011- or I would've been the living embodiment of The Jinx.

Ahhh yes, I remember that game well. Don't think I've ever been as angry again as I was that night. I remember after Davis kicked that goal, turning away from the TV, walked over to the kitchen, stood there for a bit, then grabbed an empty 1.25l coke bottle and threw it down the hallway yelling "F***"!!!!!!

That has to go down as the worst coaching decision in Grand Final history. From memory we eventually put Rooke on him but then decided to take him off for **** knows why
