I want Voss back

Playing great so far without Voss. Hope we keep it up.

Without wanting to de-stabilize the club anymore, having had a couple wins and a close loss, and given the lack of blue chip coaches available, I'm secretly hoping Harvey has a big think about it all and opts to stay on as head coach next year.

If every coach was judged simply on their win loss record there would be 6 coaches sacked each year. Those that talk about the 40% in 5 years with Voss don't look any further because they don't want to. When you rebuild a club ur win/loss goes out the window.

You can hand pick stats to support any argument.

Playing better?
How did you come to that conclusion?
Sure we have won 2/3, but I think there is a very good case to argue that we would have done that anyway.
Bring back Vossy and let him finish the job!

Voss was good. They just got rid of him because everyone knew we would win

Which is weird because I expected them to come out after the match and say "Gee, we played our absolute best footy and the other mob was just way too good."

When they got the fright of their lives at home, one week before the finals against a non-finals side that had already beaten them once earlier this year, it meant something. Bartel was willing himself at contests. Chapman and Stokes were doing the same. There is no doubt that Scott was coaching to win. Perhaps a few of their younger blokes took it easy but don't denigrate a proud performance. That performance was a really positive sign for the future. Whether it says anything about Voss or indeed Harvey is worth debating but it certainly says something about the heart and potential of the 22 blokes who ran onto the ground.

Agree with all of that but Chris Scott was quoted as saying "We're not too disappointed. We're certainly not ecstatic… we'd like to play better.
It would be fantastic to have played brilliantly, but we've had a pretty good couple of weeks prior to this, and as you can see with some of the teams' preparation going into this round, there are some teams in the comp that have bigger fish to fry."

They could see the score from the other game so they had nothing to play for and still came out on top. Remembering too that they did have 37-scoring shots!

Again, why would he say anything different? He had to downplay that performance. He couldn't let it define them going into the finals. That doesn't change anything about how we performed and what our club should take out of it.

No, but some credit where it was due would have been nice.
Exactly my point. Scott dismissed the game because it suited his purpose to do so. We therefore shouldn't read anything into his comments and we particularly shouldn't let his comments cloud what was a very good performance by our boys.

Exactly.

Scott was hardly going to say:

" Boy, that was an excellent performance from the Lions. They really stretched us today and exposed us in a few areas. We're really going to have to address those before the finals in case a few of the other teams were watching today.

That's twice this season they've embarrassed us a bit . Maybe they're onto something"

Which would of course, have been the truth:p

I think we are approaching this from different perspectives. I'm sure his comments suited his purpose. And it shouldn't and doesn't cloud my view of our team's performance - they were magnificent. It is a question of whether you think giving some credit to the opposition is fair play. I do but maybe I'm old fashioned. I think a mature coach wouldn't see that as exposing his own side's weaknesses. From my vantage point, neither Scott brother has that capacity yet, maybe never will.

Man, this has gone so far from the original conversation!

FWIW, I agree with your general sentiment. However, I firstly don't blame Scott for trying to minimise the importance of the game. Secondly, he only responds to questions from the journos and, given the game was in Victoria against a top 2 side about to go into the finals, I would doubt many of the questions posed to Scott related to the Lions.

Hell, none of the press down here even went in to detail about the abhorrent umpiring decisions that didn't go our way that actually finally cost us the game. Why would they give a toss about Brisbane?!

If it were a Melbourne club that that had happened to there would've been court injunctions on the finals this week!

Leigh Matthews just said on 3AW Sports Today that Voss will not be re-appointed.

Yeah, people need to let that fantasy go. The board's decision whether you agree with it or not has made a Voss return impossible for the short term. He was totally emasculated and it would be hard to wield authority over the whole playing group when they saw you get the arse a month ago.

Maybe one day he might be able to come back, but not in this coaching cycle.

Yeah you are right.......however I am having fleeting moments of rage related to what we have done....and these moments are becoming less fleeting....
