Ian Perrie Played His Last Game For The AFC???

I'm not really sure, I haven't put enough thought into it to produce a definitive list. But off the top of my head I can think of four or five players that I believe are more expendable. They are all midfielders or flankers. And that's not including Ricciuto's retirement or the possible trade of Meesen.
Names?

I didn't give names because I haven't put enough thought into it. But if you insist then these are some of the names I'd put below Perrie, off the top of my head. And if we're talking about McGregor then the list would be a lot longer.

Doughty, Hinge, Jericho, Massie, Campbell.

Not saying I'd necessarily delist them, but without examining the entire list they sprung to mind.

massie is a weak link for us but he wont get the chop (unfortunately). Same goes with doughty.

Effort and courage alone isn't enough (not that I'm saying he's gone, either). If it was then this thread wouldn't be here because Perrie has loads of that stuff.

Why do people forget that Massie was drafted at number 4 and was likened to Greg Williams in his abilities. It was the speed of the game that meant that Carlton were looking to offload him from their midfield around the time everyone started looking at Athletes as the future of the game. We got him and he has been very handy for us down back. Massie has one hell of a football brain and that is something that can't be taught/created.

i think its completely irrelevant where massie was taken in the draft, however he definetely deserves to stay on the list, played some excellent game this year - absolutely smashed franklin a month or 2 back and had a blinder against the bulldogs

Massie is one of those players that if he has a bad game it's a pretty bad one full of turn overs etc.
But mostly, Massie will contribute and play well, rather than having a bad game, total opposite to Perrie.

Perrie, Doughty are the ones that tend to have more bad games than good ones.

With all due respect Nikki I don't care where he was drafted and what his scouting report said. That was so long ago it is hardly relevant to the Kris Massie of today. We see him play every week and that's what he's judged on. Yes he is a handy player, and he seems like an absolutely great person. But unfortunately I don't think his playing contributions have put him above this type of scrutiny. He's no certaintly to be delisted by any means, but he's no certainty to keep his spot on the list either.

he was drafted at no.7 (pre-draft considered a lock to go at no.3 but fell) and was compared to leigh colbert. injuries stole some of his mobility. :)

Looking at delistings/trades it should all be about balance in certain positions with age/experience. when renewing a list each year.

I'm not sure we can keep all 3 of Perrie, McGregor & Gill on the list - though I agree getting rid of 2 would be too much of a turnover.

Similarly, can we afford to keep Doughty, Massie & Torney. Again probably not & 1 should be delisted, when you have the likes of Pfeiffer through.

Your right so by going along those lines you could draw a circle around Perrie, Doughty, Jericho, Biglands, Bode and McGregor for delisting.

From that group I would honestly say Perrie, Jericho and either Bode or Doughty would be delisted add Riccuito as a retired and you have your four taken from the 2007 list.

The pick massie went really is quite irrelevant, not sure why that angle is being played up. The reality is you can really only have so many weak links in your team before it starts to hurt you. For instance someone like scotty stevens does a job for us but when you start adding massie, doughty etc it takes the edge off of the team. These players are battlers nothing more or less. They dont have great footy brains either another myth.

Massie was absolutely awwsome last year. People forget how good he was for us last year. He was consistently getting high 10's low 20 posessions last last year. He is a good player. No way should he be delisted. He was injury plagued early this year and couldn't break into the side even though he was ripping it up in the SANFL. He then finally got an opportunity and he has done well.

Very harsh with respect to Massie especially, and Stevens to a lesser extent. Massie has found his niche recently and is doing it better than anyone in recent memory (except when ridiculously undersized against Reiwoldt).

Doughty another story. Had a couple of good years but now on the downhill slide. May be reaching the end of the road IMO.

I think Massie's excellent season this year (and last) will ensure his spot in the side. Doughty had a corker last season but unfortunately hasn't been able to back it up this year. He will definitely be on the possible delist list. But Massie is safe.

I think Jericho, Biglands and McGregor are safe.

That leaves Perrie, Bode, Doughty, Roo and possibly Meesen to be in the mix.

You'd only delist Bode due to injury concerns.

Doughty would be a trade, wouldn't get a lot, but he's a solid depth player.

I agree with Bode. I like the little bloke and like Biglands, I am not sure they'd nurse them through major injuries, only to drop them.

I really like the Bodster as well, but using your own reasoning on other players, we can't keep players on our list that are continually getting injuries.

He's played how many games now in two seasons, probably no more single figures.

His record over the last 3 years:
2005: 2 games
2006: 23 games
2007: 1 game

The pressure he applied in the forward line made him an invaluable member of our side in 2006, but when you consider he's played a total of 3 games in the years on either side of that, he's too great a risk to be persevered with.

Bode is a great little player, and nobody wants to see him delisted because of any shortcomings in his game. However, we have an ageing list, and he is a player who is rarely out on the park. For this reason, you'd have to consider him a likely delisting.

As for the others...
Perrie, Gill & McGregor: ONE of these players will be gone. Almost certainly Perrie. He's given his all, and can honestly hold his head high knowing that he got the absolute maximum out of his limited talent. But at the end of the day the time has finally come to move him on.

Torney, Massie, Doughty: ONE of these players will be gone. My money would be on Doughty, though it may be Torney if the club is strict in its policy of only retaining "tier one" players pas their 30th birthdays.
