The list just isnt that good. Similar to Lyon's Saints. Good top end talent but falls away after the first handful of guys. Its really been a problem of Freos since their inception. Need to build a good balanced list.

2009 he came within a whisker against Geelong, 2010 against the pies, another 2 or 3 mins and the Saints get up, I don't rate the footy the Lyon plays, it's negative, slow and u inspiring but history has its fair share of sliding doors and his could have been different, another criticism that never seems to get pointed towards him is that he has never really built anything, he took over a Saints team that was cherry ripe, he dropped them like a bad habit when it was looking spent and went to another team that was heading into a premiership window, he hasn't delivered it thus far and one has to wonder if he will? If he jumps ship it will be buyer beware

Have heard one James Hird is looking for a coaching role if Freo wanna try someone more attacking....oh wait, my mistake :p He is a "good coach" though, he said so himself :D

I've been saying for years that Lyon will never win a flag with his game plan, 69points again falls way short. The CEO will give him another year and then he's toast, Freo need a key forward, they should also go hard for Bennell, see if they can fix him. They need to sack whoever said Fyfe was fit to play this game, Lyon needs to adjust dramatically. How Freo have stuffed this up is extraordinary, now we have the friggin poo colours playing in another Grand Final, i'm giving this one a miss. Ross Lyon is on borrowed time.

The 2005 Grand Final Score was 58 to 54.
Lyon is still clinging to that 'Bloods' game plan while it is obvious the game has now changed. He is a stubborn bloke who wont adapt or evolve and wont face the statistical facts that the game is not the same as 2005. If you cant score over 80 points you cant win finals. Simple.

Food for thought: if Houli hadn't given Freo the Richmond game but the other results remained the same throughout the year, Freo would've finished fifth. That's likely a more accurate representation of the form of the teams over the year.

Hahaha if your first paragraph wasnt shit, this dragged the post well over the shit line.

Cool story. Back it up with actual criticism rather than unsubstantiated claims or GTFO.

Oh wait, this is BF, where people couldn't form an argument if you threw a philosophy 101 textbook at them. ^^

One other thing: i think their fitness guys got it wrong. They peaked way too early in the year and started to look tired around mid season. If you want to win a premiership you have to peak at the end of the year.

I actually reckon their list is better than mid-tier. It's the game plan that's on the nose...

How often do you see their exciting players do something exciting? And I made the comment a few weeks back, it seems their first instinct is often to run backwards or sideways, even when they have clear space to go forwards....then there's the issue of who to kick it to. They'll run until they drop, but what's the point if you're just running in circles. They can be exhilarating...their first few months of 2015 prove that...

I just can't see the point in doing the same thing again and again when it clearly won't achieve the desired results...

Wrong. Saints kicked 2 goals after-half time including a grand total of none in the last. Enough with the excuses he can't cut it.
They were in it into the last couple of minutes, and could have easily won but as you say 2 goals after half time, Ross Lyon teams don't generally kick goals

As popular as it might be to hate him, Ross has worked a miracle to get this list competing. Looking at the team out there tonight, they have a lot of average players. Not gonna win a premiership with this group IMO.
Why does Ross Lyon always have a shit list then? At some point the buck stops with him.

If Dawson is still at Freo next year it means he has a dossier full of juicy info on Lyon...

CEO should be publicly putting an expectation on attacking footy. Regrettably Lyon = one trick pony.

The guy takes an average list to the top of the table and to a prelim, loses a premiership by a bounce of the ball, and another one by under a kick, whilst the other one his team kicked inaccurately and could have won if they kicked straight. What more does a man have to do, this thread is terrible

There was not a lot in that game. Game plan stood up well to a very good team. Poor execution under enormous pressure compared to composure and efficiency.

I wonder if Pav and/or McPharlin call it a day. Both probably should.

Pav will go another year but give up the captaincy. McPharlin is done though, I can't see his body holding up to another year of AFL.

To be honest he did recruit a few young blokes early on when he arrived and gave them a go. But now he's hardly played a new recruit and given them an extended run. They probably would have been a more attacking side if they gave Blakely, Weller and Crozier more game time. Those three couldn't be any worse than Deboer, Suban and Pearce.
