Just another reason to avoid the opening and closing ceremonies. Also, I always found the swimming rather boring anyway.

I don't mind Basil calling the Olympics. I'm less invested and thus less bothered by him. But I cannot stand him calling the footy. He's a good man, does great work for Telethon, but stay away from my footy, Bas.

I generally reckon the Olympics sucks anyway. It's just a big old jamboree for sports that nobody actually follows, run by a corrupt organisation that likes to throw its weight around. End rant.

The Olympics are good but the coverage is stuck in the 1990s. I don't to watch 5 minutes of the Boomers vs USA basketball out of a 40 minute game and then "go back to the news desk for latest" with 'latest' meaning the 17th replay of Mack Horton winning a gold medal for the morning. Channel 7 don't screen the AFL 5 minutes at a time so I don't know why they think showing Olympic team sports that way is a good idea. It needs to be multi-channeled so people can actually watch events properly.
+1 for finding swimming a bit dull but even the 1500m only goes for under 15 minutes so none of it takes long. Plus it's nice when we win, which we used to when it was just us, the US and whichever commy regimes were into doping programs that cared about it.

I'd just like to be able to watch sports that don't necessarily have Australia instead of replays of puff pieces on Australian athletes.
The 2016 Olympics app was amazing for that. Showed all the multi channel stuff on 7, plus basically every event in every sport. Some of them had no commentary, but you could watch anything you wanted live. The app was like $15 or something.
Hopefully they'll do a similar one this year, if you have a smart TV could be even better. I watched most of it on my iPad last time and it was awesome. If you're like me and want to watch the archery or kayaking or obscure track and field events and not just the same volleyball and Australia events, check it out this year.

Maah, heck da 'lympicks. The only decent sports are the ones for whom a gold medal isn't even the peak of that sport. Tennis, golf, soccer, cetchra...
I think Olympic coverage peaked with the John Clarke entree "The Games" followed up by Roy and HG doing "The Dream". (Sydney Olympics)
