Who else? I know Bucks has hardened some and wettened others, but if we were unable to get him, who else would you prefer to be coaching us next year? I had been of the viewpoint that if we couldn't get Buckley down here then theres no point changing for changes sake. Let Laids try to reap what he has recently sown but for some reason I have this gut feeling that the Horse might be something special. So I'm going to go with him as my second preference.

I worry about career assistant coaches....

I really think theres only one choice...Bucks....

a fresh approach...someone who will learn with a young list...has the respect of current and past players, respect of other coaches....been involved in a successful club off field...understands the critical role sponsors play and is someone I reckon sponsors will want to have promoting them....footy smart....hard worker....true professional in his preparation....disciplined etc etc.....

With the way footy is heading , a basketball coach might not be out of the question .

I think we need someone from a basketball background, at least as an assistant. I think Football is heading a lot more in the direction of basketball in terms that you have many different plays depending on what kind of stoppage and basketballers in general are drilled well on being both defensive and offensive players.

I have a relative who is playing in the TAC and even at his level they are not taught the basics of what is expected, you pretty much learn nothing until you get to AFL level and that is were we are struggling as I think our development is quite poor.

You can tell our players just have poor development when you see so many players caught out on the wrong side of opponents, it is really basic shit and we can't get the basics right. They have had to drill this in to young basketballers a long time before they started in AFL, you never see a basketballer on the wrong side of a player, in basketball you are forced by the coach to think a lot about where you player is, where the basket is and the direction of play.

If we got some fundamentals right, just took some of the basics out of basketball discipline we would be a 5 goal better team off the bat.

Roos on the couch tonight indicated that while he wasn't a career coach he would continue as long as he was required. Suspect Longmire might start looking harder at opportunities.

I would say if Laids got the chop i would like Hardwick.Been in the system a while and should be a good coach.Sumich would be worth a look at also.

Horse Longmire for me.

Roos is a class act. The Swans were proablably 40 seconds away from back to back premierships so they are/have been a professional unit. No d@ckhead policy, discipline, structure/gameplan (whether you like it or not there it is a gameplan that the players follow and understand), sensible trading, etc. We have already seen Rossy Lyon has what it takes to couch after doing an apprenticeship under Roosy. Horse currently does a lot of the head coach work sitting in the box. He knows the club and he has been away longer enough to come back and make his mark. Deano thanks for the memories but it is Horse for me. Time to move on.

If we are going to change then there are so many options that missing out on Buckley isnt the end of the world.

So easy to take your eye off the ball in this situation and go for a profile coach eg. Buckley or Hird type. I keep thinking of snaring one of them. But it is imperative that the next coach can actually manage (man manage, develop, educate, inspire) as well as coach (tactical nous and positioning) as well as having some profile (club salesman without the used car salesman spin like Wallace).

Who this guys is, not sure, dont know enough about them to make the call. Who would have thought the likes of Matty Knights and Ross Lyon to be head coaches 3-5 years ago. I think we may be looking at a Melbourne cup size list of candidates rather than the 2 or 3 usuals currently being spoken about in the media.

Lets hope we have the right people on the panel and our shit in order to enable us to make the right decision.

If Leigh Matthews still has the passion to coach I think he'd tick all the boxes.

Proven premiership coach
Excellent manager of players and staff
Instils a winning ethos and toughness into the teams he coaches
Fantastic media performer
A high profile that is attractive to sponsors/members
