If another team gets the jump on you u should do what ?

1. Keep doing the same and get flogged ?
2. Adapt to the game, make some changes, change some matchups and maybe even alter your gameplan ?

Its a tough choice coaches make...but i know which i;d do.

Hawthorn are truly one of the worst flooding teams in the competiton...no idea why their fans pretend otherwise when we can all see it every single week and it happens en masse from the get go.

When behind an experienced team plays a different style to when in front...u have no choice but to adapt to whatever the opposition throws at you.

Flooding is hardly the same as jamming numbers around the contest and changing the pace it is played when behind on the scoreboard.

I assume u all saw that difference today.

If u didnt u truly are blind.

After qtr time it was a massive turnaround...outplayed, outclassed and outcoached. Turned out not to be such a difficult win.

You deserved the truth for having a whinge and looking for excuses.....suck it up pal.

we (west coast) never whinged about the swans flood...you just have to find a way of beating it...the hawksare young and they will figure a way around it,

hey swans were 5-5..what did you expect (hawks fans) did you expect the swans to just say "oh weel we will just let you have the 4 points because we dont want ruin a good spectacle"

thers an old aussie saying that mates use when playing cards or golf or whatever "we aren't playing for sheep stations mate".....

well in the case of AFL they are playing for a hell of lot more than sheep stations...its called playing for keeps...and good teams find a way to win when they are challenged...

Teams know that the hawks like to run n' gun (like west coast a bit abd bullies) and teams will know they cant outrun teams like that so they do whatever they can to stop it

all said and done the hawaks will learn from today...7-4 is a great start to the year and its all about persistence..swans didnt play in 2 GF's by luck

Quality post, and this is exactly what I feel also. :thumbsu:

Good stuff, you explained our game style, without being negative or trolling. It'd be good to see more posts like this.

I'm not using it as an excuse as I said a loss was the better result, but what if today was a GF?

I think we need to stop allowing umpires to influence the outcome of games, and get away with it.

Whether Hawthorn played well or not the umpires changed the momentum and influenced the outcome of this game... end of story

I agree totally. There ruining the game. It's happened in many games & today was another game to add to that piling list. It happened both ways against Sydney & Hawthorn.

The swans definitely play an unattractive brand of football - reducing the contest to a match focused around stoppages. Strangely, even though the swans instigated the stoppages they were the ones that got the benefits for tying the ball up with some friendly holding the ball decisions and ridiculously soft 50m penalties that led to goals.

In a low scoring game like that umpiring decisions gifting free kicks to one side directly in front of goals are critical. The better side didn't win that game today.

Thats because you West Coke do it all the time - Round 1 vs Swans was biggest flood I have witnessed against Swans.

5 goals directly from free kicks to Sydney vs Hawthorn 0.

No impact at all Polo.

gee, what a turnaround....swans fans copped it all through the week for complaining about umpires, and here we are a week later, the swans win, and the losing fans are already crying about the umpiring....have a look at your players, they give away stupid free kicks they pay the price.....
the hawks are a genuine finals contender, no argument, but they got beaten by a finals-hardened side playing finals-style football...
as clarkson said afterwards, the hawks will learn from today, but let's not forget sydney have been ordinary this season just as they have the past three seasons up to the halfway mark, and just kept on improving...
a typically tough win by a battling swans side, nothing from hall, almost nothing from micky o, kennelly injured in the first coupla minutes, no ablett, jolly hurt....we all have our problems

Svennyboy...one of the worst cases of pot calling the kettle black.

From Round one u blokes have flooded something fierce again this year....i understand u prefer to call it "getting a few numbers back" or "playing a loose man in defence" but Round One was a Moses job...u do it evry game champ...part of Worsfold's gameplan :thumbsu:

We try not to whinge about the massive floods we cop from the likes of hawthorn and the weagles...we simply counter it by playing it tight inside and controlling that contested ball...can look boring but it beats losing.

Because you FLOOD them!!!!

Because you flooded!

Because you flooded!!

Because you flooded!!!

Because you flooded!!!! Ya get it now!!!!

Finally we agree on something :thumbsu:

As Floodthorn would have implemented it 5 minutes earlier

:(:(:(
It all depends upon what game plan the opposition has set for us.
We don't flood. Sydney, St Kilda and Fremantle all flood.

I thought his post was quite a well thought-out one, but it still annoys me that WC, Bulldogs and Hawks fans think their teams are these amazing attacking machines, who have to put up with our pesky flooding. The Eagles do flood, and especially against us.

Rubbish. The better team did win today, the Swans came from 3 goals down to turn it into a 23 point advantage. Truly a champion team. The better team won. Hows the tipping going loser:D

The Swans may have lost 5 games this season, but when they simply cannot afford to lose a match, they are the most difficult team to beat in the league.

I always knew the Hawks would find it tough today so I guess a 9 point loss wasn't a bad effort. I also expect the Swans to be in the top 4 at the end of round 22, and pushing for another flag.

There is not a lot wrong with what you have said above, save and except that Hawthorn were flat today.

We lacked run, and maybe a young team was genuinely a bit tired.

But as for the flooding aspect, it is a real problem for us. When opposition teams go man on man and play the congested game, we struggle.

So as I said, good post.

:) The Hawks were better for the loss my friend, as they did not play a great game overall, but I appreciate that someone does acknowledge the pathetic standard of umpiring at the minute. I bring it up as passionately when it is other teams also.

ANIS, I thought it ironic before when you were mentioning that I might have some tears dripping.

At least I don't have another annoying excretion that I'm guessing you have to deal on a regular basis ;)

This is what i hear when i read H2F's posts.

"When Hawthorn lose, they really struggle, and i really struggle to accept it"

Not sure why you're throwing darts my direction, but you know I am always up for some healthy rivalry. The reality is you guys brought your game today and won.

The Hawks did not play a good game today, were cruelled by the umpiring, and did not make the most of scoring opportunities.

All this against the reigning Grand Finalists, with a baby team, and still nearly got over the line.

I'm actually a pretty happy camper. I look forward to a destiny whilst your likely going to have won ONE cup to show for yours, which is very close to an end.

:p
