India record in SA, NZ, Eng.....and Australia

Oh ok so right now it is about why this India team, which has never played in SA as a combination, doesn't win there.

F*** up and let the grown ups talk about cricket mate.
Hey kiddo. Don’t behave like an average Indian fan. Read the question original poster has asked . Did you go to school?

1) the OP is a noted non-Indian fan so you can generally assume there's a subtext to a question like the one posed, designed to remind everyone that some gloss needs to be taken of their achievement. It's petty and stupid.

2) I've already addressed the question. Did you go to school?

3) As has been pointed out, India went close to defeating a far stronger SA team last time they were there, than the SA team which currently exists, and as has also been pointed out, they did it with, batting wise at least, a far weaker team than they have at the moment.

4) As much as you're bursting at the seams to find something to criticise them about, the current Indian team can't remedy their record in SA right now, and haven't had the chance to do so for three years. What you want them to do, right now, is anyone's guess. Disguise themselves as Australia and play there in a month or two perhaps?

Hey kid, so let’s stick to why India hasn’t won in SA. All I said there is a long time before India can beat SA NZ Eng at their home. I don’t understand your Indianism but I do think you are saying the same thing. We can always disagree.

If you're that determined to find out why, you can always, you know, read my theory in this thread if you wish.

Tim Paine is our Captain.

/discussion.
But this goes back to the early 2000’s when they retained the trophy in Aus. You can’t blame it on Paine. We serve up crap lifeless roads we normally win as we are clearly dominant when India come we aren’t dominant

All those other nations leave so much grass on it and makes sure it swings and seams

South Africa did it last time they went there and served up three green tracks and went within a first test ABDV rescue mission of losing the series

You probably didn't follow the tours of South Africa and England. They were as close as they come and eventhough the final scoreline in England might read 4-1, in footballing parlance, England won the series by winning 4 matches with scores of 3-2 rather than 4-0 drubbings every match. AB made the difference in the SA series and Curran in the England series.

It's all well and good to create very bowling friendly conditions for the visiting side, but it only works if you're 100% certain that the visiting side do not have the bowlers to take advantage of the exaggerated bowling friendly conditions. If the opposition "does" have the tools to succeed, then you basically turn the match into a lottery based on who wins the toss. India learnt it the hard way after they rolled out a rank turner and Steve O'Keefe ran riot at Pune. I know this might come across as an excuse, but in the last tours of SA, England and NZ; nearly all of them had very bowling friendly conditions and India won 1 toss out of the 10 matches they played in those countries and they won that match at the Wanderers on a wicket that would've gotten the match abandoned on an another day on 'dangerous' grounds. Despite losing the toss, India were beaten soundly in NZ but having seen the matches, I'm pretty sure that winning a few more tosses would have changed the fate of at least some of the matches that India lost in close fashion in SA and England.

It still worked they won 2-1

Mate it backfired. I guess when you have an ABDV you CAN take risks because you know you have one bloke who can make runs absolutely anywhere but the expectation before that series was that there would be some retribution for the rank turners served up in India the last time they met. It simply didn’t happen that way and they barely escaped with the result

They backed their bowlers in and got a result they were 2-0 up after the first 2 tests. Take nothing away from India as they performed admirably

Err no they won the last in 2007. Didn't even play in 2003. We may as well say Australia are good in India if we are counting that 2004 win. Just as relevant.

A series they lost.....

So? i would say India's proficiency at handling the moving ball while not amazing is no worse than any other team currently doing the rounds. I would say that NZ and probably England deal with swing/seam the best right now - Elgar at the top and QDK at 6 give SA two bookends that handle it reasonably but in between they struggle.

India's issues with it are greatly exaggerated in proportion to how bad they actually are at it.

But if this current India test team are to be considered a truly great side they do have to do better in England/South Africa/New Zealand.

They do, that's indisputable.

West Indies: Simply didn't lose to anyone, anywhere.

Australia: More fallible than the Windies but when winning, the won big and made it count.

South Africa: Somewhere in between and conquered their biggest mental hurdle by getting on top of Australia having already ticked pretty much all the other boxes.

India will remain a tier below if they can't at the very least win in 2 of the other 3 SENA countries.
