Carrazzo gets alot of the ball but hes not skillful enough to play in the midfield. Houilhan is a senior member and needs to be given responsibility. He needs to step up and play centerhalf back. Thornton is one of the best fullbacks in the league. Waite must play centerhalf forward. That is his natural position.

HF: Hadley Waite Simpson

RR: Kreuzer C.Judd Murphy

Why is Russel in???

Pretty hard for a first year player to be key ruckmen.

I'd prefer thornton and setanta to be the key postion backmen and have houlihan play HFF and Hadley HBF.

Houlihan CHB!?...God help us all....u cant be serious?

I Like your thinking about waite though. Our forward line is so much more potent when his in there.

Also, Just some food for thought:
I think some people are under estimating our retirements last year.

Lappin - we're going to miss him more than people think. Superb sweeper down back, you could through him forward and he'll bag you 2 or 3 but more importantly he could change a game because he was a star player something we lack.
Don't see any replacement for him, real loss to the team.
Kouta - i know he had no pace left, but he was the clearence king in the middle, something we lack against the tigers. We'll need a bentick or hadley to fill that void. (which could take some time)

kennedy/whitnall - Again 2 CHF's taken away from the side. We're desperately needing someone to step up this year. Whitnal, when he was fit was a good target had a presence. Kennedy was better than edwards or hartlet so far anyway. Another loss to the team.

Just thought it was worth recognising where we're at in terms of our list.
4 key structure players lost to the side.

Hence, this year is purely development again, Im not expecting anything close to the finals this year. Definately worth giving the kids a continued run in the side though and not to jump on their back too early!

Why is every third suggesting we drop Bower?

He will be a good player based on last night and will learn more from playing in the firsts.

We lack defenders and you're wanting to drop one.

Who on earth would replace him?

Saddington is soft and a waste of time.

Spot on TG, Bower is coming along nicely, shows small signs of development every week, is one of the few giving us good run from defence (grantedly sometimes his decision making leaves a bit to be desired but that only comes with experience)...he is one we need to persist with

Definitely one of my favourite emus on that busy defensive highway.

[My team for the saints......

FB: Jamison O'hAilpin Carrazzo

HB: Scotland Waite Thornton

C: Gibbs Judd Simpson

HF:Murphy Fevola Kruezer

FF: Cloke Wiggins Betts

RR: S.Hampson ,Stevens,Bentick

INT: Jackson, Houlihan, Bower, Edwards

Wiggins is a tough nut who can take a strong mark and also has great defensive skills to ensure the ball stays in the forward zone long enough for Betts, Murphy and others to snap a score.

Houlihan - at CHB?

Nothing against Houlihan, he definitely deserves a place in our 22, but at CHB?

Pretty tough in my mind to make these changes, as you would think 3, maybe 4 changes for the St.Kilda game. I would do the following:

Ins: Hampson, Fisher, Kreuzer, Bentick

Outs: Hartlett (Susp), Edwards, Grigg, Bannister
Too harsh on Edwards. Played well on the weekend and it wouldn't be sending him a very good message, dropping him after a strong debut at a time when he'd want to be cementing his spot in the 22.

I know we won't make so many changes, but considering team balance, I would think the following were possible:
Possible OUT: Grigg, Hartlett, Bannister, Jackson, Betts, O'hAilpin (underdone)
Possible IN: Hampson, Fisher, Kreuzer, Bentick, Pfeiffer
The reason for the extra out then is, because I'm not sure on which of the final three to miss.

i'd like to see:

FB: Jamison Setanta Thornton
HB: Scotland Waite Bower
C: Gibbs Judd Simpson
HF: Houhlihan Cloke Murphy
FF: Edwards Fevola Fisher

R: Hampson, Stevens, Bentick

I: Pfieffer, Kruezer, Carrazzo, Hadley

- Judd isn't fit enough for following the ball yet
- Carrazzo to come on to tag or rotate on a small forward in defence
- Bentick to be used in stoppages as a rover
- Murphy and Houhlian would be good in the HF line to direct some traffic up to the other forwards (they can kick a few as well)

We are ****ed for a CHF though. We can't afford to lose Waite as our CHB either - so pushing him up forward is a no. Why did bloody Harlett have to be a ******** on thursday!

I would definately drop Betts. He is way out of his depth at AFL. He lacks pace, defensive skills, is weak and doesn't kick enough goals

Bower is also out of his depth

Need someone tough at the clinches to replace Kouta in packs

I favour:

IN: Fisher, maybe Bentick

OUT: Betts, Bower

How can I put this? You're wrong.

Betts out? He played a great game last week!

This also means Setanta can stay back, and hopefully help out Jamieson, who was thrown around like a rag doll.

I thought Jammo did a pretty good job on Richo despite how it looked on paper in the end. Unfortunately he was let down by a lot of sfot play around clearances which allowed Richmond mids and flankers to waltz down the ground and deliver the ball effectively inside 50 (something that we struggled with).

As much of a sooking whingeing fat innacurate pig as Richo is, he has great hands and with the rules developing more and more in favour of forwards, he will always be tough to beat for one defender. I think Jamison is our best defensive prospect for sometime and as good as Setanta is with his athleticism and judgment of the ball through the air, Jamison is a natural defender. Playing on Richo was great experience for him and it's money in the bank for our future.

On this point, I am impressed with Bower generally too, he has speed and reasonably good judgment. Once he gets a bit tougher and works on his footskills, he could be a really valuable running backmen.

All of the top teams are showing incredible run and set up from the half back line. We see glimpses of this with the blues, but sadly we let ourselves down time and time again going inside 50 on Thursday night.

I am still not sold on the Ratten (possession/tempo) game plan when it is excuted on the wing. That Bannister to Judd turnover is indicative of how such as gameplan requires really decent footskills, otherwise it goes to cr@p. It also gives other teams time to flood our forward line. We don;t have enough decent crumming forwards to benefit from a congested forward zone. Why not use our forwards attributes (speed) and get the ball in quicker and longer. And when a mid breaks the 50 have a bloody shot!
