Is Mitch Lewis best 22 (23) when available?

Thats because the game plan has moved past bombing long to the wing for an outlet kick & long bombs from outside 50 its now pinpoint kicking with run from half back & lowering eyes when going inside 50 with constant movement

I hope they can carry 3 talls but i dont see it

It's not our game plan but we still are forced to play that way many, many times a game. Even our kick ins, we mostly kick to a pack about 60m out and hope we win it/bring the ball to ground and win the ground contest. Against all our opponents this year, we have seen them have muliple repeat entries as we have kicked to a contest and seen the ball come back in. Yes, we have our odd 'trick play' kick in where Sicily hits a running teammate in space on the opposite wing but that's maybe once a game (and Carlton were aware of it, as other teams will be in time). Would be great to have Lewis as a target in those contests as he will actually mark a few of them and should at least bring more of them to ground rather than having the opponent's ruckman of key defender taking an intercept mark.

I think you're missing the point with a lot of this. You're not always going to be able to move the ball quickly, you're not always going to be able to spot up a target inside 50. We haven't moved past outlet kicks or long shots at goal, we're just playing to the plan that works with the players we've got.

When you have someone who can take a contested mark on the wing it provides an option and it frees up other players because the opposition now have to be aware of that option and defend it. When you have someone who can line up and kick a decent shot for goal outside 50, a defender needs to honour that player when they lead up at the ball and it eases congestion I50 for the other players to get free.

Do you know which teams averaged the most shots from outside 50 last year? All 4 preliminary finalists. More avenues to goal are better, and the quickest way to goal through congestion is over the top of it.

I hope so. Crows are lining up with a huge forward line and looking dangerous. I can’t tell you who misses out though. I guess gunston gets dropped if Mitch was fit this week. But after that I’d hate to pick a full strength forward line

The Crows forwards to date including the smalls have not had to do much defending. Lets see how much the bigs are willing to pressure and chase when the ball isnt coming to them lace out. Especially those bigger forwards.

Haw and GWS are best stocked to handle 3 talls forwards but I don't think 3 big forwards will be sustainable as the year progresses, and it gets wetter and colder.

We migth try it our selves, but I think the best model is two big forwards, maybe a third that is very agile/mobile though.

The player that will miss out on a potential Lewis, Dear returns will be Gunston. Which is a good thing as Gunners really has this year or possibly next as his last year.

I think the real question is if we can play Lewis, Chol and Dear in the same side. For me the answer is yes. The highlight of the Chol and Dear combination last year, was their attack on the opposition when they had the ball, which usually resulted in a turnover, that we could score from, while providing a forward target. The Chol Lewis combination wasn’t as successful, as both Lewis and Gunston, are your more smart lead up forwards with safe hands to mark, and are not really known to put offensive pressure on. So Lewis would be the player that replaces Gunston.

Our depth is scarey, When Worps, Scrimshaw and MacDonald come back from injury, it’s going to be really difficult to see who gets replaced. Who ever loses their spot, will have the right to feel hard done by. Still have Frost, MacCabe, Huswaite and a couple of others that should be getting games, but can’t due to our quality. We don’t have an automatic 23, we have an automatic 30

Who goes out for Dear? Guinivan or Maginness?

And if we are playing three talls, there is no place for Hardwick, Weddle or Sic to play forward, so who goes out of the backline?

I can’t see us playing all three. Chol has to play as he is in form and is needed to take centre bounces. Dear and Lewis might be competing for one spot come September.

Thank you for saving me the time...

WHERE IS MITCH LEWIS AT?
HAS THE GAME GONE PAST MITCH LEWIS?

Firstly, of course he is.

But also, last year when Dear, Gunston and Chol played guys like Moore, MacDonald, and Watson played their best footy, and our structure in general looked its strongest. At the moment it is more challenging for the smaller guys as there isn't as many talls to crumb from and the opposition defence can set up around countering them. When you have it moving quickly to 2/3 genuine talls targets and then have the 'mosquito fleet' at their feet, it makes them even more dangerous which is something to look forward to. We are doing well despite the fact we don't have Lewis and Dear, not because of it.

Buddy was my absolute favourite player but the side was better after he left for Sydney
team balance > the individual
Acknowledging something that could be observed from actual performances after a player left.

VS

Supposing what might be based on pretty flimsy arguments before a player has returned.

Honestly I think the side looks better with 2 talls, but a fully fit Mitch is better than calsher.

To play devils advocate, every time Mitch played last year we lost and we played terrible. But 3 of 4 were in our 0-5 start and r17 was at gmhba so doesn’t say that much.

That’s a great question. Who goes out. Our depth is incredible. Which is a great thing to have. After CJ’s game last Thursday, I’m now asking who does Scrimshaw replace after his suspension?
