Rumour Isaac Cumming - UFA (and then there was one)

Its ok, we still have "organic growth" if we miss our trade/FA targets.....
Its actually a salient point. IF we miss Cumming and there is no Genie that appears and falls into our lap this trade period, then if we are not going to change the current incumbents handling our trade strategy, we should be forgetting all about trading and focusing wholly on drafting talent. Dice the bottom end of the list and obtain the best picks we can and try and upgrade what we have. Give me a Dan Curtin, Jake Soligo win every year and that will do.

Sam Edmund 50/50 on Cumming to Port or Crows (said this today)
Chris Dittmar has been told by his contacts at the club that Port are not confident of landing him (said this yesterday)

Update: Listened to Tex on MMM this morning, interesting to hear he and a few Crows players had a beer with Ditts before the Brownlow on Monday night, maybe Tex was his source for that comment yesterday? Tex did get asked about it this morning and it was more the tone of his answer that sounded a lot like someone very confident Cumming will be heading to the Crows, worth a listen (initially gave a sarcastic answer to stir up Ditts and then finished with “hopefully he heads to our footy club and we will see how that plays out within a few days”).

Rowie mentioned that Tex had dinner with Cumming and his fiancee over the weekend while he was in town for the medicals. Cumming also didn’t meet with Ken due to their prelim commitments.

Wasn’t it also Rowe that last night said Cumming was going overseas with port players?

But it's an advantage nonetheless, the only personal connection Cumming potentially has with Port is a guy that might (and I think will) sign with Collingwood

Clearly Port have most of the intangible advantages when it comes to performance, but we'd be remiss not to lean into using Tex as a key communicator and seller. Ultimately, being around someone Cumming knows and respects well should be integral to developing greater personal relationships within the club

But what is it that Tex actually has to sell? What our club is is self evident. Saying it's anything different just makes people look stupid.

I'm assuming the selling points would more be around the cameraderie at the club. Hell, he might even LIKE Nicks and pump up his tyres as a people person 😂

I do think there's an issue with the perception of the club.

We had Reid come out talking about how the club was supposedly going to be super aggressive during the trade period, so it's definitely been the club's intention to go hard at attracting players this year.

If we miss out on Cummings then some serious questions need to be asked. Reid has written cheques that the club clearly hasn't been able to cash and there would be no other way to frame it other than it being a massive failure.

Maybe the club needs to face the reality that until we can actually generate some excitement and belief on field that no-one is interested in coming to a dead end club that's being led by a mediocre coaching group.

I honestly don't understand how you can be super aggressive when all you've got is 2 usable draft picks this year and the stock standard next year. And we know that there's a discount applied to future picks due to the risk that you finish higher. To genuinely be aggressive, you trade out contracted players to create a cache of picks. We can't even bundle up our 2nd and 3rd to a higher pick if one became available because that would leave us with nothing to match a Welsh bid.

Remove Reid from the equation and the average IQ of the remaining LM heavy hitters would struggle to hit 3 figures. Roo, Nix and Kelly are all severely lacking in natural intelligence.

Im not sure Reid adds too much more than that either.

Its a real concern.
