well i dont support hamas' methods....but I must admit that I have a problem coming up with alternatives when they're sitting in what is effectively a jail in gaza. They've been living in jail for decades. They were promised a homeland in the 1990s under Clinton. Do you have any ideas what the people in gaza should have done to gain their freedom? This is an honest question. I'm not trying a gotcha moment....

Appreciate you asking a genuine question, better most of the nut jobs in here circle jerking each other in an endless echo chamber of one-sided stupidity of thinking.

You have seen the yearlong real-life repercussion to what Hamas did on Oct 7th. Ask yourself if what they did on Oct 7th has bettered their push for freedom or set it back further. Was it the best thing to do for the people under their rule as a government?

What's going on is incredibly complicated and the cards are certainly stacked against Palestinians, but killing innocent people (that goes for Israel also) is not the answer and it never will be. Because it just escalates and escalates and escalates.

What's the best way forward? A 2-state solution. How do we get there? I have no idea now. Peace is as further away as it has ever been in the region.

People living in a jail for decades don't act rationally. If you are confronted with more decades of living in jail, confined by people who will never set you free, you might take an action which isn't for your betterment.

As for the question about whether hamas did the best thing for the people, are you saying that they should have just sat there and kept the peace within their jail, and accept a lifetime in confinement for their children and grandchildren?

As for a 2 state solution, it will never happen. You know that. I know that.

you act like murdering thousands of innocent people was there only option.

Just prior to Oct 7th and the many months leading up to it Israel was releasing more and more work permits (record levels) for Gazans, to enter Israel for jobs to provide for their families back in Gaza. Was Israel still doing shitty things yes of course, but the lives of Gazans were a hell of a lot better than they are now.

I'd suggest Hamas leaders, instead of hoarding all the wealth for themselves, probably should be injected it into the local economy, rather than just go and kill a thousand odd people. There were plenty of way Hamas could have made the lives of those under their control better, they chose not to do that, namely because they are a dogshit terrorist organisation.

You can argue they were desperate all you want, probably right. The reality is though they are far worse off now, then they were a year ago prior to doing what they did on Oct 7th.

I was under the impression that Netanyahu had completely stopped the 17500 work permits that Bennnet-Lapid had created. It seemed "talks" to resume them were a token event in an attempt to normalise relationships with the Saudis. I want aware of any talk of israel increasing the amount, although is think Palestinians wanted this.

so they should have sat in jail and waited for the israelis to be more generous...

and it was reasonable how israel responded? Killing the 40 odd thousand palestinians. They had no other choices?

The money to gaza appears to have come from two sources. One is from UNRWA and other organisations. The other is from Qatar which was authorised by Israel. I think the latter was meant to be a bribe for hamas leadership.

This is from Wiki....

"Qatar has been a key financial supporter of the Palestinian militant organization Hamas, transferring more than $1.8 billion to Hamas over the years. In consultation with the U.S. and Israeli governments, $30 million were transferred monthly to Hamas, according to a Qatari official interviewed by Der Spiegel in 2023."

The money could have been given to UNRWA to improve the well being of palestinians in Gaza directly. After all, Hamas is a terrorist organisation. It seems counterproductive to me to give money directly to a terrorist organisation.

So I suppose the Palestinians should just sit and wait and starve and hope that Israel shows mercy....

If someone is claiming thousands of innocent people were murdered by Hamas on Oct 7th they're clearly lying thru their teeth.

again, you are suggesting their only option was to kill 1000 people.

it wasn't.

don't get stuck in the trap like the other dimwits in here just because i think Hamas are terrorists pieces of shit that i think Israel are doing the right thing. I have said from the get-go that Israels response has been stupid and completely unnecessary, and their extremist Zionist government need to go. You can go search posts if you need too.

Hamas leadership should have been executed by special ops and Mossad. Not just carpet bombing the entire god damn city.

This isn't a sport where you pick a team.

There are assholes on both sides of this.

not quite - Israel were increasing permit amounts throughout 2022 and into 2023 with an aim to get to over 20,000 (record amount) and then keep going from there. Israel were still being Dick bags, but there were green shoots appearing.

Well I think we decided that the Palestinians had the option of just waiting until Israel decided to let them out of jail.... some might say that would never happen but I think it's possible that the israelis would have moved into Gaza and sought to bring in some more american settlers to "settle" gaza. Of course, the israelis could have used the carpet bombing technique at that time. But we shouldnt speculate. They could have taken the peaceful option of moving the Palestinians overseas.

The good news is that gaza really isnt part of the promised land. It's the West bank and other areas that the Israelis want. The bad news, of course, is that I dont think the palestinians will get any of it back.

And yes, there are assholes on both sides, and the israeli assholes are currently killing a lot of non-arseh*le palestinians....

Anyway, the Hamas leadership has been executed now like you wanted, so that should fix things.
