Mid East Israel declare war after Hamas attack III

"Why do Palestinians resort to violence?"

Here's what happened last time there was a peaceful protest, from Sth Africa's ICJ filing. Noting that all of this was years before Oct 7th.

"The Commission found that there were reasonable grounds to believe that Israeli snipers “intentionally shot” children, knowing them to be children114, and they also“intentionally shot” health workers and journalists “despite seeing that they were clearly marked as such”115. It further found “reasonable grounds to believe” that Israeli snipers shot disabled demonstrators “intentionally, despite seeing that they had visible disabilities” and despite them not presenting an imminent threat116."

They've been ethnically cleansing on a smaller scale for a long period of time. This ceasefire won't end the ethnic cleansing Israel is undertaking, but it might at least halt the genocide.

The question is whether you can trust habitual liars....maybe the deal with the saudis provides the payoff. I believe that Trump has brought a carrot to the deal....we should find that out in the fullness of time.

Hopefully UN people will get access.

Israeli mouthpiece CNN has exposed the likely path...

• Israel and Hamas have agreed to a deal that will pause fighting in Gaza and lead to the phased release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners, Qatar’s prime minister has confirmed.

• Implementation of the temporary ceasefire will start on Sunday, the prime minister said.

It's not ideal but it's better than ongoing hostilities.

Hopefully it kicked off a process of negotiating a permanent ceasefire.

The only way there's peace is if there's a Palestinian state. Everything else is tenuous ceasefire. As long as there is occupation, there's legitimate resistance. That goes for the West Bank and Gaza.

The Greens continue to be the only party to put out coherent press releases about Palestine/Israel.

Just curious. Why haven't the Greens requested in their latest demands on the Government for Israeli hostages to be released. It's almost like the hostage situation has been marginalised by the Greens. Surely the release of hostages is also part of upholding international law?

They have, numerous times. Try reading the statement you just quoted.

the greens appear to be living rent free in your head m8.

:100:plus the occupiers, murderers, and destroyers should cover the cost of reparation and a political and personal cost too.

I did, and reference to hostage is a subtle throwaway line buried in the statement. Clearly the bullet points are what the Greens have reinforced to the Government and the release of the hostages should be one of them.

Why would you not include the release of hostages as one of the bullet points? I'm pretty sure illegal detention breaches International law

Nope. I rarely if ever comment on them, but this stood out like a sore thumb. In fact this is my 5th post in this thread, 3 of which were today.

The bullet points have nothing at all to do with the terms of the ceasefire and everything to do with the future and holding the bad actors to account.

You've had to try really hard to misread this.

They didn’t specifically mention the apartheid either. But you’re ok with that?

The bullet points are about "UPHOLDING INTERNATIONAL LAW" which is about , as you say, "holding the bad actors to account". Does that include Hamas holding hostages?

Yes, given they specifically mention 'the release of all hostages' before those bullet points, I'd assume that is part of the ceasefire agreement they approve of.

They didn’t list all the UN resolutions that Israel haven’t complied with. That list would stretch over several pages.

But you’re ok with that?
