... with a special shout to all the vile posters from whom more venom spews forth for our own players than the opposition or the umpires.

Someone must be responsible. And in the on-line forums that have become our global water coolers, that someone is either Tom Murphy or Simon Taylor - or both. A selection of views posted this week on the Hawthorn board on BigFooty.com, under the banner, ''The slip that cost Murphy his career'' (by far the most popular thread of the week), indicate that the old maxim ''if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything'' applies in reverse in cyberspace.

Where to from here? Truck loads of chicken manure or hearts? Torn memberships, projectile body fluids?

At least Gary and Phil go on to quantify that it's not everyone who are w***ers, and give the reasonable few a chop-out. Unfortunately everybody in here now has a distinct odor, and it ain't nice.

Hawthorn deserves better.

Unfortunately the article was bang on the money, this season has brought the "Tiger" out in a lot of our posters, posters are free to put forth their opinions and they will always be many and varied, it's times like this that bring out a supporters true colors.

Well said Jimbo!

But a senior moderator, Gary Shadforth, says it is dangerous for any club to dismiss posters to supporter forums as reactionary idiots who don't know what they're on about.;) Shadforth is 72, and has been a Hawthorn member for 43 years. ''What the club has to realise is, if you've got 53,000 members, and thousands of them are unhappy, you've got to at least listen if you want 53,000 members next year,'' he says.

Gezz i cant believe your 72 years old Gary good read in all will sticky this Mr Shadworth!:thumbsu:

Imagine what we'd be like if we been finishing 9th for umpteen years?

I expect it's just frustration from people, having seen how good the team can be, naturally raises expectations. I'll go further to say that it's not even losing that's the problem, it's the WAY the team loses.

But back on topic, E-Whingers have always had a louder voice on forums imho. People tend to not put their time into "happy" and "content" posts. It's easier to whinge :)

LOL at the hilarity of it all.....

That Hawthorn supporters on this board are such whingers they make the front page of the age website!!!!!!

Hopefully this will put people back in their box.

If Tom had his head in the sand about these feelings towards him, somehow I think he knows it now. I really would love to see him play on Sunday. I want him to get agro and take it out on his opponent, in a legal way.

I think it's time we set up a "Hawthorn vs XXXXXXXX Official Vent thread" and a "Season 2009 Official Vent Thread" then merge/delete all the negative threads on our board (e.g. individual Murphy and Taylor sniping threads).

Put simply, people need to vent. When you watch the Hawks play like squibbs, it's VERY hard to stay positive and I think it's better if people let off their rage in a forum than at their family, friends or strangers on the street. I've seen on other boards they have similar threads where like minded posters can yell and abuse all they want. The advantage is that if it's all kept in there, we won't have consistently negative posters filling the forum with derogatory thread titles and ruining constructive discussions with their negative bile.

I only have one problem with this story.
The media use exactly the same method to make money, they have their protected and blamed as well, yet they are able to offer up their opinions with impunity.

But I do agree about these personal attacks, by people who are supposed to be part of the Hawthorn Family, on 1or 2 players week in week out.

How about somebody on this broad or in the media put forth that Taylor is unfairly penalised in the ruck and comments made by Robert Walls regrading Taylor in last weeks game were bias and disgusting. But Robert Walls is part of the media so he and Tim lane and co can say what they want without fear.

So it's OK for the media to paint all Hawthorn supporters with the same brush, but not look at their own?

Good idea Nev. I was responsbile for one of the threads mentioned in the article, and I guess I did just need to vent. having one area to post these things, if need be, would be better than having it all over our main board.

It's interesting isn't it. What i said, i've said for around 3 years to other hawk mates, but you post it on a internet forum, and it's newsworthy.

just on the article, do they mean that posts are 10-1 negative, or 10-1 threads are??? i wouldn't have thought it would be threads.

I don't think a vent thread would work anyways.

Most ppl believe in what they are saying and want everyone to know it - kinda pointless placing their beliefs in a pit of angry sentiments that few ppl acknowledge is actually truthful.
It's kind of like Bay13. You can send all the crap posted the other forums there to let the scum (hell I'm one of them), joke, tease and abuse all they want without infecting the other boards. If people don't want to hear negative player bashing they don't have to visit the vent thread. EVERY club has supporters who don't take losses and bad performances well (except Sydney, they don't care either way), it would make this place a lot better if we had a main page that wasn't covered with internal abuse.

I think this is a great idea, it should be locked for only Hawk supporters approved by the mods. As the other forum is managed.

Maybe we should have had our rant towards the coach and selectors for picking the likes of Murphy week after week. He has been woefull seriously since round 2 against the Swans and week after week some nobody kicks 2-4 goals on him and ends up having their best game for the year.

Truth is with 50,000 members we have the right spew our anger, the Hawks want to be a big club with big membership well their is a price to pay for such riches and being accountable to the mass membership is one of them. Quite frankly Clarkson and his crew act more like an inept Tigers or Fremantle mob than a reigning premier or top end club.

We are back to our woefull days of the late 90's.

I think if you are on $200K a year and can't handle a bit of shite then you are in the wrong game.....

the players know fully well the exposure their lives get once hitting the big time, it's rather like celebrities complaining about the paparazzi....

I think footy is a passionate game and people tend to believe what they are saying when they speak/write it....so for instance the Murphy thread was in essence people's feelings about his footy ability...tough luck, shit if people have a crack at me in the community about my views, it is just the way it is....

move on, build a bridge and use that shite you recieved as a motivator to better yourself...

Kip, technically you're right. Posters can write what they want and paid professionals should suck it up. BUT these guys only boys, they're barely out of their teens, the article highlights how we affect players and thier families.

However I think your missing the point of the thread.

The Hawthorn BF Board and posters had become so acutely scathing in the criticism of our own players that an actrile was written in a major newspaper specifically regarding our board. This place is becoming increasing feral. It's what I imagine the old animal enclosure used to be.

I don't bother writing sensationalised negative posts, and it's not something I want to be associated with. In fact I want to be distanced from this behaviour.

Look at Richmond, a feral minority feel the need to spit, swear and deposit manure at the club, and through association we label all Richmond supporters with this tag which is unfair to 99% of the others. Collingwood supporters have been physically attacking other supporters at the ground.

I don't want that 1% of Hawthorn supporters making the rest of us look like a bunch of a$$holes, unfortunately it's happening already. I we can stop them using BigFooty as a medium for them it's a step in the right direction.

I don't post too much on this board because, inevitably, I'd get banned for potting some clown who continually bags our players, club, president - whoever.

Think about this: How would Tom Murphy have felt, laying on the ground, in the middle of Aurora Stadium, watching three opponents stroll into goal? Do you reckon he would've felt good? Or do you reckon, deep down, he would feel bad because (maybe in his eyes) he'd let his team down?

Do you think that, as the players walk off at half time, that dunking them in beer and screaming at them will make them play better? If every time my kids played up, I doused them in cordial and screamed at them, I wonder how they'll turn out?

Every SUPPORTER of Hawthorn need to do more SUPPORTING and less ****ing whinging. Yes these guys are paid professionals but they are also human beings. I get frustrated - I turn the telly off, I question the tactics and, yes, I even swear but to continually write that Player X is a spud and should be dropped, anonymously, on an internet forum is, quite frankly, juvenile and piss weak.
