Autopsy Its a wrap for 2023 Richmond by 13

Weird weird season. Everything that can go wrong has gone wrong. Injuries, bounces, shanks to take the lead, strong wind gust on after the siren kicks... Plain odd. I dead set don't think we've been playing that bad. If anything I think we've been holding our own for the most part.

We are literally s**t luck away from being on the cusp of the top 4. Horse and the players just needs to see the remainder of our games as an extended preseason and crack it out. Weirdly enough I don't think our season is done. We can win our next 4.
I couldn't disagree more. You're just letting the team off the hook. We were absolutely putrid in this game. Richmond were there for the taking by any half-decent side.

The truth is we've been very very poor all season and have deserved nothing more than we got. Injuries are a weak excuse at this point and luck has nothing to do with it. Good teams make their own luck. We've been shockingly soft, both mentally and physically, as well as tactically and skill-wise. It's just so easy to get over the top of us these days. It's not really excusable for a team that made the Grand Final last year. Horse needs to go and the list needs an overhaul.

Richmond have been a better team than us since Hardwick left so the loss is not at all surprising.

Even when we are competent we are incompetent (see last week).

Nothing unexpected tonight really.

Mills back was brain dead.
Tall as sub was another brain dead choice.
Going defensive from the third.
Not playing to conditions ie, over handballing when the ball is slick.

Richmond were handballing all night like it was a dry ball, our problem is we get caught flatfooted, their mids gave us a master class.

Same old. Start well, hopes up, egos up, all up and about, start getting complacent with our inside 50s with bombing it long, opposition adjusts then just shit the bed. Outhunted outdone, weak around the ball should've lost by more. Dominated in clearance, defensive transition non existent. Just cant catch a break with these close games no good.

No tag on Bolton, mills goes into defence when being up by 3 goals. Footskills were poor in the second half, no method and didnt feel like have a clue when moving the ball forward. Missed tackle, missed tackle, missed tackle, easy end to end inside 50. Always love parker and mills's effort but it felt like they didn't stand up and lift the team in the final term. Too many fumbles at ground level too, lacked composure. Too many times we would have the same person go for a ground ball and turn it over.

Loved buddys pressure thought he was alright. Gulden and Jmac gave their all on the wings, Melican is genuinely our best defender at the moment. Florents game was nice too thought he took the game on well.

In the end, shit defending turnover and transition, weak in the midfield and around the ball, too many missed tackles. Another deflating loss. Pick 5 has never looked so good!

Jesus Christ, is it hard for any of the players to go some genuine passion and care?

Nankervis sends Lloyd into next week and there's no remonstration or fight from any of the players. Softest team/leadership group in the AFL.
Imo that's the whole leadership structure. Having 13 captains just allows them all to pass the buck with no accountability. You need a sole person that is willing to stand up and lead, take responsibility and set the standards

I think the sooner the club moves on from buddy at thus point the better. He just feels like a makeshift piece in the team now. An immediate retirement after a packed scg game to show their respect should be the decision now
Buddy was arguably our best KPF tonight - not that he was dominant. McLean did very little and Logan did nothing. Thought I can’t help but feel that as a forward line functions better without him.

Horse can go and get ****ed. This team no longer play for him. He made all the wrong decisions today. Francis as Sub. Mills back. Going totally defensive is a real problem. This is not a team you can do that with. He totally killed us tonight. Very bad coaching decisions. Add to that the fact he has no answer to another side's momentum except putting Mills, our biggest mid, back.

I think Horse is out of ideas and we need a new voice who can grow with our young group. One who recognizes the talent and how to best use it. Unfortunately, Horse is not getting the best of of our boys. Richmond are a very ordinary side and we made them look good in the last half. A back kicked 2 goals for *'s sake when changed forward because stupid Horse did as he always does and put Mills back.

I believe Horse's time has come. Today we should have won. But after half time he had no answer for a Rookie Coach's moves. He made a huge mistake by making Francis sub.

I do agree that this is a team you can't go defensive with, our strength is in breaking the lines. But don't agree with the fresh voice bs. Our overall structure and discipline to keep cracking in is thanks to his leadership. There is no way I could ever see this team not playing for him.

Even if you brought someone in to try and extract some sort of extra performance, it would be miniscule. The possibility of another coach losing cohesion within the squad would be much more likely.

How many players were injured in contests in the 2nd quarter as the Swans run dried up completely.

Disappointing end to a promising first half by the Swans. I suspect there were a quite a few injured players out there tonight. Lloyd's concussion robbed all run from behind and the panic down the line kicks from defenders turned the ball over continuously in Richmonds favour.

i thought Swans composure would win over Richmond's chaos, although the composure went missing in the 2nd half. Too many players spent all their tickets and there was no run in the last quarter. Fitness seems an issue this year with an inability to run out games.
Yes they targeted players to injure alright. That was obvious when Nanka went for Lloyd. They went for Logan, Hayden, Ollie and Gus as well as Rowie who went off as well with a head high hit.

Bug it was our inability to respond due to an insipid game plan that pissed me off.

Longmire can piss off now. I was not convinced last week. I don't think the players are listening anymore

Then it is skills, execution and overlap problem which comes down to either fitness, structure or both.

Either way, the Longmire experience is done for mine. No trust even if we go deep into finals

What leadership? All Horse does is pass the blame to whatever circumstance that he can...whether that's injuries or whatever else. Other coaches just get on with it and find solutions. Horse and co. sit on their hands hoping for a miracle.

  • We keep playing KP players as the sub, and it never works. Ridiculous from the match committee to keep making this same mistake over and over how hard is it to get the sub right? Seriously
  • The difference in the game was literally the fact for whatever reason we have to concede a last minute goal in every ******* qtr.
  • Errol best again and will win the B&F easily.
We are lucky its not Sam Reid, just not quite fit but close.

Yeah they just were powerful and clean. Our mods were reactive and fumbly.

Lot of whinging about the gameplan, but I don’t think it was a gameplan sort of night. Usually our answer to Richmond’s chaos is to maintain possession with marks, but that wasn’t really an option.

What would people have done differently?
