Durability and tap work for sire. The marking aspect gets me every time. Big guys just have to be able to mark.
Good point that, a ruckman able to mark the football.

We haven’t had one since Lade & Primus.

Not sure that’s in Hinkley’s game plan though, he likes the ball to the ground. Scrap, crum, then turnover.
I’m sure you’ve seen that movie.

Port are asking for a 2nd round pick for Soldo.
No surprise there. It's about his worth. Saints 2nd after bids, compensation picks, etc, might end up out at 30. That's pretty much about right. Can't expect to get back the significantly higher price we paid just a year ago, but also as a contracted player that'll be about what the Saints pay. Might send a 4th back their way or something.

I'd be surprised if he wasn't tangled up with the Houston and Luko deals.

Well Solda's missus grew up on the Gold Coast but maybe Solda & Hardwick no longer get on.

Either way his trade value could be enough for Luko, depending on who's paying the outstanding two $million dollar contract owed to Luko for the next two years.

I suspect we wil target St Kildas pick 24 as capital towards other trades.

Soldo + 36 to St Kilda for Pick 24 values Soldo at pick 51

Soldo + 54 to St Kilda for Pick 24 values Soldo at pick 33.

Either way Pick 24 could then be used for Luko or bundled up along with Houston (and other stuff) in an audacious play for Norths Pick 2 (yes, I dare to dream)

This. This is going to be what we mean when we say that we want a second round pick for Soldo.

The same as when we were saying we wanted a first round pick for Peter Ladhams.

The top one wouldn't work. A 12 pick upgrade isn't something I think we'd consider for Soldo. I agree sending a late 3rd/4th back their way though might happen. Especially as when we get to the back part of the draft is when our F/S and Rookie options come into play.

Also gotta remember though, that there's compensation picks to come and also FS/NGA draft push back, so the Saints 24 is really only like pick 30.

Maybe something like Soldo for 24, your first bit, but port also switch 36 with the Saints 43, that downgrade is worth around pick 59, before all the compensation/FS/NGA order changes

Lol, when Port were trading for him, he was worth the world. Same player a year later is pick 50. Haha.

We've been stuck on the wrong side of the market for both Soldo trades, though. We had to prise him out of Richmond in the first place, and we're now looking for a buyer while he's encumbered by a longer and bigger contract than he was 12 months ago. Different story if a Melbourne club is seriously chasing him.

With early F/S and NGA pushbacks pushing pick values further away from #1, just remember that later on those lower picks used to match bids come out of play, and at around pick 40, or thereabouts, the picks start to drop back closer in value to #1.

I think it’s been mentioned before, those players are going to specific clubs anyway, so it’s not like us or other clubs are missing out. The draft is moving around but order and player pool is the same.

As if we gave up our first round pick for 2 serviceable, B grade footballers...

Every list needs its troops, but not at the cost of picking at the pointy end of the draft. FFS.

Wasn't it pick 22? Let's not get too upset about it.

Although we did end up giving up Bailey Fritsch for Jack Watts. Ouch.

Give me a choice between a Soldo/Rat combo, and a kid making the AA U18s side - I know which one I’m taking!

You tell me how pick 22 has fared over the years. We will get something back for Soldo, don't get too worked up about the history of this trade until whatever we gave up becomes Nathan Fyfe or Robbie Gray.

We regret what we paid for you.

I always love howe these journos (And Sam Edmund is a classic for it) will retrospectively tell us things that have "always been the case". If Sam kew this, why didnt he raise it "almost immediately".

And yet, he was a very good player for us before his injury. And with the serve his family gave Richmond to roaming Brian, we weren't a problem then.
