Shes hit political celebrity status.

Someone made a song about her, its gone viral.

Jacinda knows best? I've never smoked, i don't like it, i've been to a thousand gigs in small clubs and pubs and almost all of them were fire traps in the 80s and 90s, i know all about smoke, i never did like girls who smoked, but you cannot take away people's choice to do what they want to do. Smokers have been banned from the office, airplanes, public transport and restaurants. Isn't that enough? Isn't your home your castle? Don't smokers at least get to smoke there in their own living room? What she doesn't understand is smokers will find a way and prohibition never works. She is another one of these busybody politicians who want to tell other people how to live their lives. As long as the smoke doesn't blow in my face i couldn't give a stuff.

Nanny state!
New Health Fascists!
Can't see it getting up. Any decent opposition have so many avenues of attack. It's so stupid for many reasons.
As you say it's a very gross intrusion into folks lives who are committing no crime, except now the NZ government makes it a crime. What's next?

They also seemed to have forgotten the absolute disaster that happened in the US with prohibition of alcohol. Nor have they paid any attention to the damaging effects of criminalising drugs on society.

It's also hypocritical, Alcohol does much more damage to people and society than smoking. Double hypocritical because they are allowing vaping.

They still allow vaping? I thought most govts were progressively banning it due to the neg research that came out about it (and it's blatant targeting of kids)

I have read vaping is not going to be banned, I could be wrong. This is health policy gone mad.

vaping is pretty ****ed. was promoted as a healthier way to get your nicotine fix, but later found to have even worse health risks. add to that the flavours were all sweet to attract young users. I have zero issue with it being banned

Smoking is far worse than alcahol on health.

The only reason alcohol is more damaging is because it's served everywhere and culturally accepted by everyone. Very few smoke in comparison to drinking alcohol. If people smoked as much as they drank in our society life expectancy would drop 15 years.

I'm not a fan of prohibition, and I suspect the light will be seen. Keep taxing the **** out of it ( which should eventually happen on all currently illicit drug).

Smoking rates are dropping every decade. It will be negligible in no time. This tactic is working.

Still - watching the frothies froth is quite funny.

Alcohol consumption contributes to 3 million deaths each year globally! Qucik, Shut down every pub and liquor store in the world! So what is Alcoholism? It all starts with getting drunk that first time. Then, you get drunk again, and again, ad infinitum. Over time, it takes more and more booze to get you to the same level of drunkenness as before, so you ... drink more and more booze from morning till night. Boom! Alcoholism. While it seems paradoxical, most people who drink a lot are not alcoholics.
Alcoholism is more of a physiological and psychological dependence on drinking to make it through life than it is a byproduct of the amount of drinking you do.

As for smoking, anti-smoking ads present a pretty simple situation: Smoking is bad because you get addicted to the nicotine and the tar turns your lungs into a swampy, black death-marsh. There's nothing enjoyable about smoking except for those who believe cigarettes are the only acceptable way to stop working for a minute. Tobacco companies, and people complicit in their business, are responsible for the deaths of six million people a year globally, you have to wonder why we were all locked down at all down here in Victoria?

Smoking's no longer seen as the high-class, decorative pearl ashtray affair that it once was. Today, we associate smoking much more with the type of working-class person who, after a long day, just wants to have their dinner, sit in front of the TV, and have a smoke while trying to figure out why the those idiots on "The Block" stuffed up the bathroom renovation?
I am a non smoker, never have smoked, if i have more than 3 beers i starting thinking Collingwood are not that bad after all? I stop at two! I do have an issue with Governments dictating to people what they can or cannot do in their own living room? Cigarette companies no longer deny that cigarettes are harmful to health. As for Vaping? Personally, I've never held a particularly strong opinion about this habit. If you really want to suck weird-smelling vapor off a sonic screwdriver for kicks and are not actively being a dick about it, more power to you. Jacinda will get you in the end anyway!

Alcohol is more socially dangerous than smoking overall because of the direct and indirect effects that it has on other people.
By and large, smoking damages the health only of the smoker.
Alcohol, alcoholism and drunken behaviours directly and indirectly affect not only the drinker, but other people - the drinkers' families (violence and poverty), 3rd party drunk driving victims (deaths, personal injuries, property damage), other innocent victims of violent drunken behaviour, etc.

In a spot of bother at the moment. Spent 9 months ignoring complaints about bullying and when the guy went public they boot him out of the party.

he recorded a phone call where he was warned that the stitch up was coming too.

Not sure he's produced any of the so called evidence as of yet but hey, we don't need that silly stuff in this day and age!

He released the recording where he was told in advance of the stitch up.

Probably lost a friend there. He has shown the messages from pollies complaining about bullying but not released them because those being bullied would also face retribution.

You can do anything you want in politics as long as youre not caught and as long as you dont piss off the leadership.

On the other hand, a glass of red wine with your evening meal is good for you. Something about antioxidants.

Even reading the comments you can see her very point presented plainly, anonymous contributors twisting what she said to try and convince people she wants all free speech banned. The free speech affording from using platforms like Twitter, Reddit, Facebook etc is what leads to shit like QAnon and people killing their families because the QForums convinced them they were lizard people.
