Nobody has said otherwise.

Not sure how you can speak in such absolutes without knowledge of the situation. You don't know who we're talking to or who we're looking at beyond the one or two names in the media.

Again, Carlton's cap is somewhat tight, but given what we have coming off the list I'm fairly confident we'd be able to fit him in if we wanted to pay him as much as he appears to be wanting. But we don't.
Fair enough mate

I'd be very surprised if the Blues were able to bring in any big names this year but I guess time will tell.

If you really want to get pedantic about it, any club could fit any player into their cap as long as they were willing to back end some contracts and shift some things around.

Gresham would be the perfect fit for Carlton and they were keen early but the money was too much.

As you admit yourself, the Blues cap is tight and money clearly played the big role in them not chasing him.

If you remember correctly I did predict that exact scenario with you in the Gresham thread a few months ago. Carlton were never going to afford him unless they were losing a decent player or two.

So if the asking price for Gresham is too much for the Blues I think the Saints would have to be paying a portion of Billings contract for him to go there.

Blues pulled out of the Gresham race because they couldn't afford him.

Billings is only on 500k I think but I wouldn't he surprised if the only way he gets to Carlton is if we are paying some of the contract.
The minor problem about Billings is his contract.

If he was a free agent in 2023, I assure you at least 2 or 3 Vic clubs would look at him.

Surely not that much of an issue ?.

He is on average coin and the Saints are clearly happy to move him on.
how desperate do you want to move him on?

If he was that highly rated, 4 or 5 vic clubs would of made a bid for him Already.

I stick to my view, if he was out of contract, Vic clubs would be looking at him. Would be easier to get him.

I agree, I think his contract while not massive is probably enough to put a few clubs off.

Seems like we are happy to move him on and probably cover a bit of his salary.

Might need/want a fresh start the same as Coffield.

What do saints supporters think Billings best position is? And what’s his endurance like?

I recall endurance being the reason why there was question marks on him cracking a mid spot early days.

Endurance is absolutely fine, it's just all between the ears for Jack.

Best position is Half Forward and being the final pass going into F50. He is an elite passer. Make him take a set shot and it's a different story...

Ideal position is 40m-90m from the goal line and only passing the ball.

High half forward because he's pretty elite at winning possession in that role, and it's a hard position to win the ball.

He's also a good mark and good kick to a leading player but only an average set shot.

Don’t Geelong already have Miers to perform that role. I’m not sure any club would fill two team spots with players programmed to do the exact same thing (and not much else).

I would say Miers plays that Hybrid Forward/ Wing spot..
Plus Billings could play in that midfield option, especially we don't have that 25-30 age profile

Also, aren't Geelong interested in moving their first round pick. Geelongs first for Billings and the Saints compo for Gresham. Could be high as pick 13, most likely pick 19 though.

Miers is more your workhorse all over the ground (due to his huge tank) and then score assists inside 50. Billings wouldnt cover as much ground but would just be the specialist inside 50 kicker. Duncan used to be that player but is slowing down now. Id only want billings if cheap though.

Nah we want to split 7 for say a teens pick and a future 1st, we wouldnt do that deal.

I think the media has blown up Geelong about trading there 1st round pick... possibility they might but a huge chance they won't either
