If we knock down that stand we lose part of our identity .

Our identity is Richmond, Tigers, Yellow and Black, Punt Road Oval.
Not a condemned old stand at Punt Road Oval that has served its purpose.

Getting rid of the old stand our identity will still be Richmond, Tigers, Yellow and Black and a vibrant, modern Punt Road Oval with brand new facilities for all our new teams.

You can't say keeping the stand will cost us success.
We won 3 flags in 4 years with the stand there.
And a big part of the reason we did that was knocking over an existing building and replacing it with something up to date. We need to move with the competition or else we will be left behind again.

We won 3 flags in 4 years with the stand there.
And we won 5 flags between 1967 and 1980 with the old social club building, should we have kept that too and not built the Mandie centre?

We won 10 flags with a cricket pitch in the middle of the ground, should we have kept that there too?

If you knock the stand down we become more homogeneous like other clubs.
With the collective bargaining agreement, we aren't even allowed things like our own website, we have to use the AFL's corporate website with 15 adds on every page.
Are we a just a prostitute for the corporates or do we have a strong independent identity?

But the landscape for clubs is changing
We stagnated and stopped re investing in our facilities once before, it was one of the key factors of what happened to our club before 2017
It wasn’t until we started investing for our future and developing state of the art facilities that we could turn the tide

Keeping the stand will ultimately cost us in what we can provide for our members, players, staff and programs (that is the real identity of the RFC not any one building or stand) and the plans to make sure we are in front of the curve not falling behind again

It’s literally been stated that if the stand stays the club needs to move
That’s not an empty threat. It’s a reality
Moving to an outer suburb location will hurt our heritage and identity more than losing the stand

No it’s not ideal to lose it but if it’s a choice between the stand staying or the club
The club wins out every day of the week

No one envies us because we have an old stand.
Our success and being able to stay in our original location on the other hand...

It won't be knocked down so we need another plan.
The National Trust won't put up with our piss poor excuses nor should they.
WW2 history is important and this stand is part of that history.

Than we move locations
It’s that simple

The Richmond Tigers base of operations in Craigieburn has a nice ring to it

That's the ambit claim from the club which won't happen.

Ambit claim
In negotiation, an ambit claim is an extravagant initial demand made in expectation of an eventual counter-offer and compromise
How? Basically every other club in Melbourne has been forced out of its spiritual home because they could no longer accommodate the facilities needed for a modern football club
Essendon, Collingwood, North Melbourne, Western Bulldogs, Melbourne, St Kilda have all needed to move

As it stands we are already operating out of portable buildings
You think that is sustainable going forward? Especially with our new woman’s programs and the Bachar Houli Foundation

Portable buildings take the same amount of space as established buildings.
We can build upwards.

It’s not that simple, we will never get approval just to build higher than what we already are
Lobby groups like your mates at the national trust will ensure that
We aren’t just talking about a couple of offices for our corporates and staff
It’s gym areas, training areas, rehab facilities and change rooms

The grandstand doesn't take up a massive area, knocking it down is not a panacea.

We aren’t completely knocking it down anyway, part of it is being retained in the new structure.

We get a new facility and you can still go in there and see parts
of the old structure for historical purposes, they’ll have a plaque pointing out when it was built, and what it was used for in WWII
etc.

Have you actually read any of the information regarding the plans and why the stand needs to go?
It’s all easily available and states why keeping the stand is not feasible for the club to remain at its current location

I’m not going to bother trying to argue with you because you clearly haven’t bothered to look into the facts and the reality of the situation that the club faces
Our staff like Gale who has actually played for our club would and used the structure we are talking about have more of an emotional connection to the stand than you or I ever would. Would of explored every single option in order to keep it

All you have is go higher, go underground, move roads, get more space when it’s all been explained why it’s not possible

Did PRO get invaded?

What is the process now the National Trust has stepped in, do they usually get their way or does it go to a tribunal?

And if they win do they have to contribute funds?

The reason being given is so we can have a training ground with MCG dimensions. The stand is 107 years old, it's not a good enough reason to destroy that culture and history, either is making room for AFLW.

Once again you have demonstrated you haven’t actually read why it needs to be removed and what for

It was vital in WW2 as a place for Melbourne people to be entertained whilst their relatives were fighting the war.
Punt Rd and Jack Dyer were very important for community morale during that time.
I see.But i gather the JDS wouldn't have been the only stand to be used in such a way in suburban melb considering the curcumstances of tha day?

Going under ground would need the Vic government and it ain't gonna happen now due to the debt imposed by covid. That whole Richmond station and Punt Road MCG area could be developed into a Fed square like precinct with cafes bars etc enhancing the MCG experience. It would cost major dollars and as Victoria is now pretty much broke its not gonna happen. Richmond Station is a shithole and well overdue for an upgrade.

The other stands have probably been knocked down already.
So if the other stands who would carry the same significance to its community as the JDS is to the Richmond community been knocked down then i can't see the difference as to why the JDS wouldn't be pulled down.
