He’s played forward for the Blues but was a midfielder as a junior. I just see an opportunity for us to play a different role.
It would have been hard to fit Martin into the Carlton midfield which was pretty good, so perhaps he was forced to play forward.

Elite junior talent who never quite fulfilled his true potential. We’re backing ourselves to finally help him realise this. Whilst he has been played forward more recently, there was a reason why he went number 1 in the mini draft even before Jesse Hogan (essentially seen as the best 17 year old in the country). Combined with S.Hocking’s comment about our off-season priority, it’s clear we’ve earmarked him for midfield.

The more i think about this the more i like it

1 He comes good injury wise and plays back up or pushes a forward out. (unlikely)
2 We have a specific role in mind for him as a pinch hitting mid (he was one at one point)
3 We have a role for him on the HBF/Wing to take over from Tuohy

All good options for pretty much maybe 200-300k? plus performances clauses and not trade capital

I think Martin will be one of the stories of the year next year.

Will play forward linking up perfectly with Stengle with their forward craft and also play with stints on the ball when we need some spark.

He’s a strong tackler and will apply defensive pressure and is another marking target.

I really like this free hit

So one of the only seasons he was fit at Carlton was the 2nd half of 2023 and the reason he got fit was because of our Physio so that was one of the reasons why Jack choose Geelong.

Fingers crossed then he will get over his injuries with us.

I don’t believe that the physio in question actually works for the club, but rather he is based in Geelong and that will allow Martin to work with him if required

When was the last time a player turning 30 who never fulfilled his talent due to injury actually turned it around? Good luck to him and happy to have a crack but won’t be getting any hopes up at all

Mason Wood? Injury issues and very inconsistent but has been really good since 2023 when he was 29.

He's a good player but can't stay on the park, and that gets harder as the years tick by.

Fine as a free hit but not getting hopes up. I wouldn't necessarily say depth, because if he's able to get to it, his best is good enough to start and I wouldn't be relying on someone so injury prone to be available in times of need. He'd be better than Rohan. Our forward half is already quite stacked for talent so it's not necessarily an easy part of the ground to break into.

GeezUs. He's had a magnificent skill set since his junior days.
If we can keep him fit & injury free he is an automatic selection up forward IMO.
Scotty maybe looking at a Neale-Jezza spine flanked by Martin & OHenry.
With Miers Close Dempsey Mannagh & Stengle as half crumb forwards.
FMD another day, another new idea, another chubby.
2025 hurry up will ya!!

Yeah, exactly. I can't help but think of guys like Cockatoo, Vardy, Simpson and McCarthy, who - even when they finally got a run at it - were clearly limited physically compared to their previous selves.
