Everyone to their own, what i took out of it was that Jack will be at Carlton training next Friday.

Have you ever heard the saying - “You can wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up first?” Well, you can apply that to your hopes of Martin becoming a Blue.

A better summary of Melbournes 2019 season I have yet to see.

And generally the teams that draft them are fairly accomodating once they’ve served their time/contract (in this case 7 seasons).

Time to move on GC.

Most Suns fans here have accepted that Martin is gone, it's just some neutral/opposition club posters that are still in denial..

The contract stipulates $3m over 5 years. So $600k a year.

You seem to be very adept at cherry picking information and twisting logic to suit your stance.

Could say the same.

They have to match terms, not just overall amount.
His terms are for a front-loaded contract at $1M for the first year.
So if GC take him for a year, they have to pay the $1M that is in the terms as his first year salary.

No it didn’t. He quite clearly said there’s a possibility.

You’ve gone from absolute certainty to “pretty good indication” in the space of two posts. Keep backing that truck up. Beep beep beep.

LOL. Beep beep to you to.

When did I say it was a certainty BTW? I don't recall saying that.

I can confidently bet a body part that Gold Coast will not redraft Martin. I would be astounded if they did. Shocked.

It's bad management and plain stupid.

Trust that is clear enough for you!!

So there is no backing away from any previous statements.

Only money and years have to be matched as per restricted free agents.

It's why Tippett only put in a 2 year deal.

1. Did GC fail to negotiate a deal or did rival clubs fail to make a satisfactory offer? Chicken or the egg?

2. You should probably not use the word “suffer” in relation to 25yo’s who enjoy $600+k salaries playing footy for a living.

3. The statement by GC’s Mark Evans does not rule out re-drafting Martin.

Keep dreaming mate

Incorrect, from Michael Gleeson article in The Age.

"Unlike matching a restricted free agent's contract terms, where a club only has to pay the averaged out amount of the total contract each year, a club taking a player with nominated terms in the pre-season draft must pay the nominated figures in each of the years of the contract. This means that clubs must pay the $1 million-plus amount next year then the specific lower amounts in years two to five. "

Our CEO Mark Evans said there's not much point holding onto him now. About to head to work, so i can't get the quote up but i'm sure someone will post it.

Correct, Jack Martin had walked out a long time ago and has since delisted himself, so truly counterproductive and senseless excersise to redraft a disgruntled and disenfranchised player.
Suns have in the interim had a huge leg up again from the AFL in firm of multiple free selections so no issue.

In what way? in deciding to draft him into the CFC in first place? or in proposing to pay him a similar figure to what he’s supposedly been on at GCS? or in agreeing to structure his GCS like payment so that it’s front loaded?

Martin seems like a bit of a cruiser, not the type I’d be comfortable offering a 5 year deal to and certainly not one that’s heavily front loaded. I’d pay the $600k average without hesitation, but only for 2 years with trigger for guaranteed 3rd. Might turn it around at Blues though, it’s an exciting young list and that might energise the kid. Assuming he gets there, still hope GCS re-draft him but I doubt they will if it’s 5 years averaging $600k. The front load makes it harder, but I doubt they’d need to look further than the total over 5 the full years before realising itd be the height of stupidity for them.

Agree with the bolded, quite worried that Martin will either continue to cruise at Carlton given the length of the contract or will play well but request a trade when the front-loaded period is up. Hope that isn't the case and it's probably the price we had to pay given the interest Martin was getting from other clubs but its still a concern - at least we'll get him for free in the PSD if we do end up getting him.

Out of curiosity why do you hope GC re-draft him? I would feel sorry for any player who is forced to remain at his club after seeing out his contract over a 7 year period of service - particularly when he has been dropped by the club just months prior. Imagine if your employer could do that to you and/or could make your attempt to change employers as difficult and drawn-out as possible despite you seeing out your contract with them.

Firstly, I don’t see any difference between contracted or uncontracted. If a player wants out, they want out and they get traded to their club of choice only if the original club accepts the deal offered. All trading isn’t restricted until a player is either a full FA or delisted. So deals need to be done and players can be re-drafted, it’s the only leverage the selling club has. Secondly, I think I’m burnt out on departing players. If players want out to the city of Melbourne, there’s numerous clubs they can go to. I don’t like them acting like UFAs and expecting to get to a single club regardless of the deal offered to purchase them. Maybe they’d earn $20k/year less at a club who’ll put something on the table that will be accepted. It’s not like they’re innocent victims of a flawed system, they’ve potentially put a guaranteed transfer to their city of choice at risk due to their own greed. I wanted us to re-draft Tippett and I would have done the same with Danger if it got to that. Players acting like UFAs that aren’t shit me. I guess I’ve seen more than my fair share.

Swings and roundabouts.

Swings and roundabouts.

Not for us, we lose more quality than the average club that’s not Gold Coast. It’s our fault, don’t get me wrong, and we’ve sold pretty well since non-anchor Noble left. Still, I’m a little fatigued with constantly trying to extract maximum value from departing players. We bought well with Sauce, Betts was gifted to us courtesy of Mick, but our roundabouts have been slim of late. Seedsman a pass, but has been a bit injury prone and he doesn’t counteract the price paid for Menzel. Gibbs a bust as was Hampton. We’ve done well upon sale, but we’ve been ****ing average at acquisition.

When Lukosius and Rankine land at your door step in a few years in their prime you wont be complaining. The AFL needs to make it easier for the teams at the bottom to recruit players from the teams at the top. It's the easiest solution to making the competition even.

Nearly nobody comes back to Adelaide. Gibbs the only regular first 22 that has, and no disrespect, but he was at the end of his career coming from a very poor team at the time. Betts pushed out by Malthouse. Outside of you blokes, we’ve not managed to entice a certain best 22 player back to our club for more than a decade.

Article states the Suns have officially ruled themselves out re-drafting him. This saga will finally be over on Friday.

Welcome to Carlton Jack Martin 👍👍
