News Jackson Hately requests trade to Adelaide

Lol, how would he know.

Our preference would be a trade for slight unders... but if GWS play hardball (which I doubt), then PSD it is.

IMO, GWS more likely to play hardball with Cameron as Cats won't get him through the PSD.
This.

We would have a preference not to use it, all clubs do. It then gets to Thursday afternoon and they have a choice. Slight unders, or nothing

Nothing surprises me anymore.

This club needs professional administrators more than ever.

Good thing our Football Director was off getting blackout drunk in the Riverland at the end of last week. Not even joking.

That's a bit harsh on GWS who have not really screwed us over. I would certainly expect to get him for a bit less than his fair market value, given our PSD leverage. But I'd be happy enough to give them a mid-late 2nd round pick (late 20s - early 30s) for him. But certainly make a stand on that value and go the PSD route if they try to dig their heels in for a better pick like they are on Caldwell.
St. Kilda never had any reason to screw us either, and all they did was look after themselves by paying the price they thought they could get away with to land a good player for free.

Just so happens we can get Hately for free like St. Kilda did with Crouch, so why we'd offer anything in the late 20s, or earlier than 40 (which we'd likely not use anyway) after what we've just been through beyond me.

Do you expect Hately to come directly into the best 22 and play a pure midfield role?

Without a doubt he'll play a lot of midfield minutes, though I doubt it'll be a pure midfield role.

Our inside group is pretty garbage at this point in time, has needed a CEY/Greenwood to be functional (which Hately is a direct replacement for) and we just lost our best midfielder in Brad Crouch.

If Hately cannot walk into our midfield uncontested at this juncture, then he's never going to be a midfielder at an AFL level. The only reason I doubt the pure midfield role is I don't want us giving up on his forward game, seeing he should be a handy forward (on top of whatever heights he hits as a midfielder) when all is said and done.

"Good faith".

I'd rather we went with "Ruthless".

Offer 40, settle on 33. 22 and 23 should be off limits completely, Brad Crouch was valued at 23 and is a known commodity. Hately may be a 1st round pick but he's still an unknown.

If we offer up pick #23, we are deadset idiots.

Sure that is probably his fair value, but given our negotiating position, we must get unders.

Why is everyone panicking?

That article mentions the possibility of taking him in the PSD, then strangely fixes his value on 23. Just disregard it, rubbish article.

Anything that Caro says, disregard. Rubbish

If it was Pick 23 for Hately it would have been done already, and GWS wouldn't be publicly posturing on getting the right 'value' for him.

Our strategy should be to just offer them a 3rd or 4th and let the clock run out like GC did with us and Greenwood.

They take slight unders for him, or let him walk to the PSD

If we're not adopting this strategy I'll be VERY UPSET

Fox saying we offered pick 40, only for it to be knocked back by GWS

I suspect this will be pick 33, which I’m fine with
I hope they're right on the ball. No need to flinch, just sign the paperwork and the Giants can sign it whenever they like. Don't overthink this, unless we want to add Jake Kelly to the deal and they can add 52 our way.

Ah, Adelaide are their own worst enemy again with the lack of PSD threat. Seems rather standard at this point.
I wouldn't be surprised if we are exploring using the PSD on another player

Maybe Jed Anderson who we were keen on couple years back, finished 3rd in North B&F, is hard at the contest and his sister lives in Adelaide

If our trade period resulted in Brad, 40 -> 23, Hately, Anderson, that's a fair outcome. Not brilliant, but better than it currently sits.

We have a habit of knocking media reports, only for them to be right, or at least contain a strong element of truth. From the Tippett clause, to the camp, to Gov wanting out, to Brad wanting to go to GC.

Media is more reliable than the club at this point.

We've no need to impact this trade deal just because we've got other potential uses for that pick.

Why is everyone panicking? Now, which thread did I read that in recently.
