I suspect that would happen occasionally, but don't imagine it will happen in this case.
Similar to a driver getting a speeding fine.
If it is incurred on the job, I can understand the club is paying for it.
But this, I am not sponsoring a 20yr old that fails to understand common cross code sporting guidelines.

"However it is unclear whether the torpedo punt goal Stephenson kicked in the dying minutes of the round nine match against St Kilda, which meant he kicked three goals for the match, was one of the multi-bet legs laid during that round. The AFL refused to confirm the games in which the bet types were laid."

Spot fixing summed up, kicks that and the result is over 39+ as opposed to 39- that's match fixing and spot fixing right there. Outcome and direct match play. Don't tell me otherwise.
I will tell you otherwise. Outcome of a match is binary, trifold perhaps. Win, loss or draw. The normal behavior of a player should be to help his club to win ( unless tanking like Melbourne or Carlton ) If you steer the result to loss or draw, that is match fixing.
Anything else is a statistic and falls under spot fixing.

Man this makes me so god dam angry!
The kid kicks a fantastic goal and people like you are using it as evidence of match fixing!
FFS THIS FORUM IS TOTALLY SHYTE!

I will never watch another one if your videos again.

Sorry I understand the confusion now.
Like I said to JMac and have tried to reiterate on numerous occasion in this thread, i'm not suggesting Jaidyn spot fixed deliberately. I am just saying that the bets he made are definitely bets that can be used to spot fix.
Mods ban this poster. This is not the bigfooty way. Should have just said - "those are crap definitions, ya dickhead"

For all with the If’s and buts:
The AFL integrity investigators are predominantly ex detectives.
I’m sure that all relevant games and his on field behaviour would have been thoroughly scrutinised for any overt abnormalities in his usual play.
The penalty is fair.

Let's reiterate information. He's betted on multiple matches where he's staked to have 3+ goals on himself. He's had specific margins for these matches. If these margins are 39+ he's hit two birds with one stone here. If it is the case with 'x player' not have 'x disposals' then that's what's cost him that bet. This match where he's kicked that goal has come under question because that's the match he's placed a bet on. Or is everything he's done is okay over the 3 matches and should cop a 4 match suspension and a slap on the wrist so other players in the future can do the same thing?

As for your rant about not watching my video, then you are to do so as you please. I won't lose sleep.

I worked crown casino for many years as a kid. Some of the worst scenes played out in there. From loney old men and women throwing away $100,000’s, to disabled wheelchair bound pokie players. Gambling fills a void. It starts innocent but becomes incessant. More regulation is needed on the industry as whole. AFL and other sporting codes have by default become an extension of the industry.

When I was 18 I was addicted to gambling for a short stint of 3 months. I went to Crown alone, walked in with $50 went up to $800 on roulette, talked myself into going to $1000 and eventually I walked away with nothing. To this day I blame myself and myself only. We all have choices to make, negative or positive, it's only up to us.

I apologise for wanting my club I've supported my whole life to be run with moral ethics. If this happens to another player this week you'd be okay with them being given a few weeks suspension and that's it? Because if so then you're part of the problem.

Did you get suspended from your job for ten weeks, and ridiculed on social media?

Moral ethics? Please define that for us.

Analysing isn't ridiculing, it's actually critical thinking. No one hates Stephenson for what he's done, but there's also nothing wrong with working out why he's done something so brazen. He's betted on his own team, his own match, on himself. Which part of this is okay with you?

I reckon the phrase "you're part of the problem." is part of the problem that you want us to walm out of the footy for.

Part of the problem would actually be just sitting there and letting everything go and expect change to happen alone. Part of the problem would also be accepting the fact that what Jaidyn Stephenson did isn't a problem at all, that he's been given a harsh suspension, and start blaming advertisements for another person's decision.

For the very last time, I accept he broke the rules.
But, I don’t accept he made those bets to fix elements of the game.
He made bets, they did not influence his performance.

He has been punished. My opinion is that it’s too harsh.
