Presumably he’s out of contract so we’ve got a bit of leverage through the PSD to keep a lid on the trade cost for this deal.

16 and Peatling for a speculative pick. Seems a bit farfetched. Realistically it'd be a mid 20s pick at best.An interesting suggestion I read elsewhere: maybe this trade is how we can crack open our FF and get a second first-round pick this year? It's been reported by Twomey et al that we're interested in Pick 12. Why not have a crack at the compo pick that GWS just got for Perryman? The club staff would all have each other on speed-dial by now anyway.
Something like F1 for Peatling & 16, maybe with a bit more going their way to help with matching bids on Academy guys next year.
Perhaps, but it's been mooted that we're interested in securing a second first-rounder, so we'll probably kick some tires. If that gets a bit complicated then we'll probably just offer our F2.16 and Peatling for a speculative pick. Seems a bit farfetched. Realistically it'd be a mid 20s pick at best.
I'm still a bit confused as how this deal happens atm
try "Jordan-Dawson-after-siren-showdown-goal"
Just tried searching for Murphy's highlights
I have it on better authority that he asked to be moved back to defence.I have it on good authority he spat it when he was moved to defence, Nicks was not terribly happy with his reaction and actually said "Well mate, if you don't like it theres the door".
So you get Intel from a one-to-one conversation? That narrows the source down. Nicks or Laird? From what I understood, Nicks prefers the 1v1 conversation.
Well no, it doesnt narrow it down to those 2 at all.So you get Intel from a one-to-one conversation? That narrows the source down. Nicks or Laird?

2 issues are:
- contract value of 800k+ ish means it’s effectively a salary dump IMO. I can’t see how anyone trades for him with anything meaningful (second rounder or better) AND pay his total salary.
- Rory as an introverted character who is settled in his home state would almost certainly poo poo the idea anyway
The deal would be so shit for Adelaide that it wouldn't even be worth doing but I think you could get Laird agree to a trade. You just tell the bloke he has a choice to play AFL elsewhere or SANFL for us. I think Laird has a bit of an ego and would see playing SANFL as below him.
We just become a club with cap space more like it.Oh boy wowee did we just become a destination club ?
If true, Laird should have been dropped!I have it on good authority he spat it when he was moved to defence, Nicks was not terribly happy with his reaction and actually said "Well mate, if you don't like it theres the door".
This could be true OR it could be total fabrication ... BUT Laird's on-field attitude once he went back to defence supports option A !!I have it on good authority he spat it when he was moved to defence, Nicks was not terribly happy with his reaction and actually said "Well mate, if you don't like it theres the door".
Looks like a great addition - adds pressure to the stalwarts and forces the midfield coaches to reassess their approach (it's the offseason, I'm allowed to be optimistic).
Don't think there's too much doubt Smith won't be a best 22 member next year.Hopefully this pushes out Laird and Smith for good.
But I won't hold my breath on that.
not acting in good faith to not initially offer a second rounder for a 4 year contract on decent money i imagine (650-700k ?).Presumably he’s out of contract so we’ve got a bit of leverage through the PSD to keep a lid on the trade cost for this deal.
yep agreed. would just need to pay out a contracted player to get 3 in the draft (4, this new pick AND Welsh). Shoey, Murph or Burgess most likelyAn interesting suggestion I read elsewhere: maybe this trade is how we can crack open our FF and get a second first-round pick this year? Very fair, depends on our targets in this draft I suppose. If we want Dodson this works well, if we want a second midfielder then 10 from Freo or 13 from GC probably the target.Adelaide get:-
Peatling, pick 16, F2
GWS get:-
F1, F2
Thoughts?
I’m thinking Dodson as a priority, ROB still has a couple of years left unfortunately which gives him (Dodson) the opportunity to develop and build up his body before taking over.Very fair, depends on our targets in this draft I suppose. The risk is that Dodson at 16ish is very similar to the pick we were going to use on Taylor Goad last year who was rated very similar to Dobson. Well 12 months later and Goad is really struggling in the VFL and looks quite a few years off playing well, but more to the point you still don’t know if he will ever make it. It’s not just the extra years of development, but the very real chance that they are never going to be an AFL first ruck.I’m thinking Dodson as a priority, ROB still has a couple of years left unfortunately which gives him (Dodson) the opportunity to develop and build up his body before taking over.
Add 1 midfield jet at 4 and give them every chance to develop as a mid alongside the continuing development of Soligo, Rankine, Curtin, Dowling, Edwards etc.
I love the idea of getting 2 genuine mids, but I think it increases the risk of at least one of them not getting the opportunity to play early and get left behind at SANFL.
