Wasn't big on the lip to Lake to be honest... Reminded me of little dog barking behind a fence at big dog... There are smarter, more discrete ways of getting under someones skin than acting like a 15 yr old brat on live TV..

Exactly. The idea that only certain players can give their opponents a bit of lip is crazy.
It would be entirely a different matter if Petrenko had some deeds to back up his words, but the total achievements of his AFL career to date amounts to a big fat zero.

If Thompson, Rutten - or even Walker - were to give Lake some lip, then that would be entirely a different matter. Petrenko is a nobody and for him to do it just smacks of arrogance & insolence.

Lakes had an average career also.

Are you serious? He had a horror 2011. Apart from that he has been exceptional... He is probably the highest paid Bulldog.

Yeah perhaps a bit harsh, and influenced by how bad he was last year. Two AA years but apart from that? Better than average, but not stellar. Wage is irrelevant we know what a good year can do for your contract.

They could be mates/know each other from WWTFC days ?? Lake is a fair bit older though !

That being the case, you'd have to say he did a fairly good job even if he didn't get a whole lot of the ball (as seems to be his habit lately).

Note that he was, once again, in the lower reaches when it came to his disposal count - just 10 disposals. Only Talia, Callinan, Otten & Douglas had less - Douglas was injured early and Callinan & Otten have been openly criticised for their poor performances in this particular game.

Admittedly, his 10 disposals does include 2 goals. He spent more time on the ground this week, at 86% (up from 79%), probably dictated by Pizza Boy's early departure.

His tackle count (3) wasn't as high as he usually achieves, but he did manage to achieve 4x inside-50s (3rd highest for any Crows player - behind Tippett & Mackay).

Also leads the team in Goal Assists. :thumbsu:

Why does your bias against Petrenko have to be in tones of piqued petulances?

Petrenko played the small forward oportunists role well on the weekend I thought.

Stats can't show the work these guys do, as the goals they get come about after the first option failed.

As for his finger pointing??? Whats the issue? Nothing wrong with a bit of banter on the field. Crowbots lol......

I actually agree with this. Id be happy to see Pets stop this bullshit and concentrate on his football. I think this sort of carry on and his goal celebrations should probably wait until he has actually cemented himself as an AFL footballer.

I enjoy watching his carry on about as much as I like seeing Brett Lee take a wicket.

I'd see things in a different light if this were true.. but it's highly unlikely as MarcusP2 showed.
Vader - just enjoy a young crow playing with passion.
I'm enjoying seeing 22 of them playing with a passion and enjoyment of the game that I hadn't seen for several seasons. That doesn't excuse an act of petulance such as Petrenko's.

Sloane is a cheeky bugger from all accounts.

He should probably wait til hes won a brownlow and norm smith first.
Sloane has already cemented his place in the team and established himself as our 3rd or 4th best mid, behind Thompson & VB. Sloane is also averaging 22.5 disposals and 8.5 tackles per game. If he wants to give a bit of lip, then at least his mouth is writing cheques that his ability can cash.

Petrenko's position is nowhere near as secure. His mouth is writing cheques that his body can't cash.

See the thing is, the two muppetts on this occassion were murphy and lake.

They were clearly giving walker a spray everytime he didnt score. Real smart with the game in the balance - you're just inviting a bloke to come back and kick the game winner. Like he did.

A point not lost on young petrenko.

It may not have been the smartest thing they could have done.. but Murphy & Lake would have to be two of Footscray's best credentialled players.

I wouldn't have any problem with Walker giving them a gobfull after kicking the sealer.. I think it's poor form for a player of Petrenko's stature (or lack thereof) to be taking it upon himself to be giving lip to his elders & betters.

I thought it was a w***erish comment from brereton actually.

Clearly there was alot of verbal going on- both ways. Petrenko was obviously sticking up for a team mate, who cares where his career is at, and lake has spuded it up for the last couple of years anyway.

Winners are grinners.

I'm with you here. Who cares what Petrenko has or hasn't achieved in his career in comparison to Lake. I'm of the opinion that for those 2 hours, all that matters is what's happened in the here and now. If your team is in front on the scoreboard, that's enough "runs on the board". Not to mention his 2 goals to boot.

Its irrelevant.

Id be dirty on truck giving a first gamer a spray for missing a shot when the game is in the balance. Thats tempting the footy gods.

Put yourself in pets position, hes out there hearing lake and co tell walker how shit he is. Lake then lets one go over the back and Walker then proceeds to kick the winning goal. Classic. Must have been very satisfying, and very hard to bite your tongue in the heat of the moment.

I dont think he was been cocky for the sake of it, I think alot was being said.

Tend to agree with the commentators.. needs to actually achieve something at this level before he mouths off like that.
In other news, the sun will set tonight.

Was a crap call by Breteton; maybe Lake should stop being a fat, petulant tosser and start playing properly again, before he mouths off at Walker?

Was nothing in it.

Walker deserved some lip from Lake for his blunder; Lake had to expect to cop some in return if he made a blue as well.

No issue with Pets giving the lip given the context (defending a teammate copping a bit who has just kicked the sealer).

The thing is if it comes back to bite him he has to cop it on the chin.

No issue with him being brave, and cheeky, enough to give it in the first place.
I've got no interest in what he should or can't do... just on whether it came back to bite him, and more importantly the team, in the arse.

It didn't - well played Super Pets. The force is strong with him ;)
