Anyone listen to the bump sa podcast? Dittmar reckons the hornet got blasted for not chasing when we don't have the ball
This is an absolute load of shit

Either it’s completely fabricated

Or

It’s true

Or

It’s a stretch of the truth ie everyone got blasted for not chasing but they’re just reporting it wrong for the clickbait.

I went back and watched the replay, jhfs intent when we didn’t have the ball was not only not an issue, not only was he the one who showed some of the most intent, it was some of the best work from any port player in ages.

He literally had 2-3 highlight reel chases in that game. Where he lit it up and went past 2-3 of his own players to make a tackle put on pressure.

A easy example is the horrific teakle turnover.

Jhf covered half the field, literally went from one arc to the other and overtook a couple of plauers to force a turnover (that teakle then took and hit a freo forward lace out)

I guess this is what we’ve got to look forward to with this shithouse media.

People just outright making shit up if they know it gets attention.

I'm so glad he and Burgoyne are bringing back the socks up. Absolutely hate the socks down trend.

The socks are not just for decoration, they're actually there for a football purpose to help you recognise teammates when on the bottom of packs, etc. It's just seriously unprofessional that the baggy short, down socks fashion has come into our sport.

My socks were always up. I would tape them as so. In the next few years I'm keen to coach my son's as they grow up and I can guarantee I'll be insisting that the team plays with socks up.

I was firmly socks down. Socks up gave me itchy shins

Calling BS on the Dittmar report, in the 1st half anyway as that was all I watched. I actually took mental note a couple of times when he was the only one chasing and putting pressure on. Cannot comment on 2nd half, but I doubt if he didnt chase a couple of times he was alone.

Honestly don't have a problem with him getting blasted for not chasing. For me, it was glaringly obvious that his efforts when we don't have the ball are nowhere near the standard required. I honestly don't remember ever seeing a player look so lazy when we lose a stoppage. I'm a fan of the guy and I'm really hoping the best for him but that is one area of his game that is seriously lacking. Anyone that disagrees should watch the practice matches again and take note of all the times he literally walks away from stoppages with his hands on his hips when the opposition clears it.

Nah. Specifically watching his defensive work after hearing storys about only going one way at North. Didn't see a problem.

That said one thing that was mentioned on footy classifieds the other night is taking a couple more years to get his tank to the level he needs to spend the majority of time in the middle. Be watching we don't cook him this year. Fatigue will teach you bad habits.

The guy had 6 tackles for the game. Only Willem drew had more for us and he plays a specific defensive mid role. Defensive work is a total non issue. Defintely still needs to develop his fitness after missing most of pre season with surgery, but this will only get better with game time. Ditts is full of shit.

Robbie Gray is in our top 2 best players of all time and he defended about as hard as the Russell Ebert statue outside Adelaide Oval.

I remember at a junior training with Port, God himself came down and had a chat to us, the thing that resonated with me the most was, "if you can't be a footballer at least look like a footballer. Socks are as important as the jumper, wear them with pride and your opposition will respect you."

Its definitely worth noting that people respond to things in different ways.

A bloke like JHF would likely be an absolute perfectionist and could be a guy who likes to know what to work on and to be told in a no-nonsense way. He needs to perform better than everybody else in our side if he truly wants to be the best player in the AFL.

The spray could well be exactly what gets the best out of him. Its all about knowing how people respond.

How many teenagers are starting centre square mids? He was asked by North and will be asked by Port to be a starting centre square mid from day one. He's up against seasoned AFL players, the best of the best, with an average of probably 7-9 pre seasons behind them. On paper he's not fit enough nor experienced enough to play the role he's being asked to play but he's still doing a good job. Let's see what all of this looks like in 3-4 years time.

The main things I took out of his last game were his tackling and repeat sprints to chase and put pressure on the opposition. Dafuq were these people watching?

I was start the game with socks up... If they were still up at the end of the game I didn't work hard enough for long enough.... Now excuse me while I go punch my self in the face

I believed in the old adage `if you can't play like a footballer at least look like one,' so it was always socks up for me.

I can recall the socks up look not looking that flash at times when the Maggies changed from the hoops to plain black socks back in the late 70's though.

I assume the club may have changed suppliers at some stage, as for a couple of seasons the socks appeared to be much thinner and made of a stretch material that when a player pulled them up they took on the appearance of nylon stockings, which in my opinion wasn't a great look for a bunch of beefy blokes.
