He's classy as all **** and has a sublime kick on him (and a damn good right foot as well), but I'd definitely like to see him play with more urgency than he has at times in the last couple of years. Something has just seemed a bit off with him.

Sure is. I remember draft day ticking off the names and as Laverde was a player that had been discussed on the Saints D&T thread was keen to see if we would take him.
It came to the Blues pick followed by Essendon then we had two in a row. I was hoping for Goddard and Laverde to sneak past to us, but thought they would both go.
Carlton did us both a favour and selected Boekhorst leaving Essendon and the Saints with a choice. You guys went for Laverde and we then chose Goddard and McKenzie.

So we can actually thank Carlton for both Laverde at the Dons and consequently this thread :)

I hope so, that would be delicious!

Boekhorst, lol!

Hahahahahahaha yeah but yeah but

The 34 have had a whole year to get on the bath salts. Just don't put it on social media.

A dumber action could barely be imagined. Good thing Carlisle wasn't being recruited for MENSA and can kick a football

If Laverde wants out it could be a good thing - we would get a late 1st rnd pick or early 2nd which we could use to service an area we have needs in such as our midfield or key fwd.

Laverde is not an out and out mid and we have numerous mid sized fwds.

I like him but if he's chasing coin then let him go

I don't get it. So the club wasn't willing to meet Laverde's demands prior to him walking out, but would be willing to meet his demands AND spend their PSD doing it, should the Saints offer 10 draft spots lower than you want.

Nah. Expect a pick in the 20's I reckon. PSD thing just ain't gonna happen.
Nah we're going to be difficult for the lulz.

"Spend pick in PSD" yeah it will suck that we'll miss out on all that talent that's typically found in the PSD. Last year was a good haul I heard.

According to our ITK's he's certain to stay.

According to this specific saint ITK, he's verbally agreed to join the saints via his manager.

Might possibly be that Connors has told saints he's theirs, and told essendon he's going to the saints, to ultimately pressure essendon into upping the offer. It's dodgy business, but I don't put it past Connors. He would do anything to get a good deal for his client. Therefor both ITK's are correct in a way..

This seems likely. Seems Connors was playing the old double-agent role to get the $ up.

Whether it's Connors playing games or Laverde to Saints legit, this has the potential to be epic.
Both sides counting their chickens atm.

Pffft and to think their are fans who are more excited about the premiership race rather than the race for laverde's signiture.

Not worth 400k a year but we have a healthy cap so it doesn't affect us. The Dons on the other hand are tight as **** so it's gonna make it even tighter...

I would have thought it would have been tight as **** too but if we're able to offer 750k for Jaegar then it can't be that tight. And no doubt we will have Goddard, Watson, Stanton retire in the next 2 seasons, hibberd leaving this season too. They wouldn't have been playing for peanuts

Is say the reason it's taken so long to sign up Laverde and the other young guy no one has heard of was in the hope you'd get O'Meara.
Now he's gone to the Hawks you have enough room to sign them.

Everyone has a few old campaigners on their list but for every old campaigner there are young campaigners coming through that will take that cash.

You traded Lovett, got Carlisle and some small fry, traded Carlisle and got Francis.

Yes, yes we did. Far from the worst series of trades that's been done.

For mine if we can secure Laverde I'll be really pleased and that will lock up all our young talent for the year. Whether we end up overpaying who knows, sometimes even when you 'overpay' it actually turns out to be a bargain if they step it up and go to the next level. Maybe we'll even offer him a 3 year deal with this thought in mind.

I do not believe our salary cap is super tight but perhaps it would be if we were to pay out for O'Meara. For what It's worth I'm not as keen on O'Meara as others. Think he's high risk and high cost (and high reward). Feel like just using our draft picks will be more reliable. Plus I'm thinking that over the next 2 years we will need to give a lot more money to Zac Merrett, Parish, Daniher and Fantasia so it won't hurt to have some spare - plus if we front end some contracts we may still get that 'big fish' in another year or two.

I know everyone is saying that we paid out big to keep our returning players but I think it was mostly just Heppell, Hurley and Hooker and that's fair enough for players of that level. I don't think most of the other guys would have gotten huge salaries. The only other one that may have been given a bit of a generous salary relative to performance might be Bellchambers but you need to lock up a couple of ruckman and I would suggest most clubs face that issue.

Laverde has knocked back Essendon as they could not match the rather generous (excessive) contract. I am gutted. Robbo will be running with a story, take it to the bank.
