I've been rather complacent in voting and was wondering if someone could tell me what is the process for voting on the day or putting in a vote before the night.
I think they’ll be a lot of people wanting to know how they can make their voice known.

If I recall correctly from previous years when we did have votes, if they end up nominating and the other nominees don't back down (unlikely) then it'll either be a mail-in ballot (so update your mailing address if it's not already) or it might be done online (so update your email address too). Assuming of course you are a current HFC member.

This is interesting as Kennett has always portrayted himeself as a caretaker.
Now that someone else is showing interest, will he allow his ego to control his thoughts or do the right thing
by the club and members?
Not just anyone either he is chair of the ACSI and revered if true Jeff will need to stand up he will not be able to brush this off

Excellent news. I've worked for a company that did work for AustralianSuper and my colleagues said that Ian Silk was a person of the highest order: decent fellow and sharp as a tack.

In addition, he'll bring to the club the best moustache since Dipper left.

A good move, and will get my vote if it comes to that.

Let me tell you a story about Ian Silk, former CEO of Australian Super. A few years ago I had massive problems with the Australian Super support staff in getting them to fix an issue that they caused. Anyhow, after getting nowhere I thought that I would raise it at the Australian Super AGM when they allow the audience to ask questions. Anyhow, in front of a few thousand people I spoke on the mike to tell him my problem. He nicely asked if I could see him after the AGM which I did. He spent some time with me after the meeting and then had one of his offsiders follow up. They did and Silk got involved in the email exchange and checked that I was happy with the outcome. He's running the biggest industry fund in this country and he bothered to deal with a pleb like me. Anyhow when he decided to retire from Australian Super some years later I sent him an email thanking him for helping me out and wishing him the best. That Sunday he sent me a thank you email (not a pro forma job either). He's on the way out, it's a Sunday night on his own time and he's nice enough to acknowledge my email.

He's a great CEO and human being. Vote #1 Ian Silk for Prez !

This is a quote taken from the trade board that I think is well placed here.

Ian Silk seems like the antithesis of Jeff Kennett - measured, competent, well loved by peers and most of all, humble. This is exactly what the club needs right now, I certainly welcome anyone who is willing to challenge Jeff and his board. He'll have my vote.

I’d honestly rather the muppet that organized the anti-vaxx protests in the city than Jeff.

Hmmm…Might not work if we’re trying to get big pharma in as a new sponsor to replace Tassie.

I like that it is not an explicit challenge to Jeff as president and that it’s not backing over the clarkson call.

It appears to be based on a commitment to good governance and a belief we should take a more constructive approach with our two most important stakeholders - the AFL and state government.

jeffs reaction will be telling. Will he welcome the experience of Silk and to a lesser extent gowers, or will he push ahead with plans to reappoint shearer and add Simon Taylor. I don’t know how he in good conscience could fight this. A graceful resignation one year early would be more appropriate.

it’s a great day, first Chad telling the giants to jam it and now this.

A bit of background about the board candidate

Silk is obsessive about football and recites statistics from the 2012 Grand Final when the Swans beat his beloved Hawthorn.

He didn’t play the game after losing sight in his left eye. At 13 he was chopping wood when a wedge of timber flew off the axe and into his eye, resulting in several operations.

“So, I didn’t play . . . I played basketball but I wish I could say that was the only reason I didn’t play — I’m pretty hopeless at sports. Did I say pretty hopeless?”

One of his brothers, Gary Silk, was the police sergeant notoriously murdered in 1998 with his partner, Senior Constable Rod Miller.

Silk, his father and children attend the annual match between Hawthorn and St Kilda for the Silk Miller Cup, named in memory of the policemen.

Apparently has good relations with Ian Dicker too…
