I rarely post but I'm outraged by JKs relocation suggestion. I was at Camberwell town hall in 1996 and remember very well the the anger, acrimony and passion of the merger debate and vote that night. If he wants a fight I'm in.
He has no idea about the force of resistance he will awaken amongst the supporters, if he even dares to initiate threatening the existence of our club.

My concern is that he'll end up agreeing to play more games in Tassie than we do now in order to extend the sponsorship. He has a tin ear when it comes to understanding the passion of the supporters and he is just as likely to agree more games there without even considering the views of the Melbourne based supporters.

Let's be honest the franchise that is HFC has been softening up its fanbase to accept relocation to Tasmania for some time now. From removing any sense of home/identity to the incredibly corporatised way it approaches everything. Even missing the boat on AFLW because it couldn't see a dollar in it and the concept of building a brand/identity instead of simply making money was a foreign concept. Never mind the standards slipping, imagine retaining a coach that has eight career losses against Essendon. EIGHT! Devil will be in the detail of the move. If the Hawks don't have an MCG Grand Final-grade clause about games in Melbourne, then the team will be lost to Victoria within 2-3 years.

Lockdown started with a real bang for you?

He wanted us to merge with Melbourne in 96, he definitely does not get it.

He tried to be Melbourne President after being the Hawthorn President. He just doesn't get footy culture. I think the truth is he grew up a Melbourne supporter who lived round the corner from Glenferrie Oval. He even admits he was raised Melbourne, but claims he barracked for Hawthorn.

Jeff thinks "Family Club" means conservative values.
He thinks 80,000 members means we are a big franchise like the Pies.
He thinks 13 flags came from "exceptionalism", and not from our humility, our team first culture, our being known by your actions.
He thinks the club runs like a corporation with shareholders.
He thinks "individualising" is something he has always ignored.
I could go on and on. He thinks so much that makes me sick. He just doesn't get it and will never get it.

People taking Jeff seriously? It's political posturing.. Get a grip. Bigger things at play.
“I love Jeff, because he says what he means, and speaks the truth!”

Nek minnit.

“You guys don’t think he actually means that do you?”

To his credit, he responded to my email. Regretably it didn’t seek to allay any of my concerns.

I honestly don’t care about tactics or negotiations - you don’t use the ****ing identity of the club as a bargaining chip.

Honestly - any credible candidate who is steadfastly anti-relocation has my vote.

I got a reply too and couldn’t agree more Ned

He's lost me now. I'm done with him. Get f’ed Jeff.

Nah mate- politicians talk shite. He is playing the game.

He has a few years left. He needs to play the Tassie card now to keep us there for 4 games a season. In a time where sponsorships are going to be hard to come by the 4 mill per year down at Tas is too good to let go.

The new President will be a smart bi-partisan one who will smooth over everything and play a much straighter bat.

Anyone care to post replies?

I don’t know how any other club or the AFL can take us serious on any of the hundreds of negotiations we are required to make each year now that we’ve publicly given ground on Tassie like this. How the hell do we push for more MCG games when this is our new public position? What a **** up.

This is one of the most generous of interpretations of an event I’ve ever seen on this website.

Jeff is always about Jeff. He is Mr. dial-a-quote because he loves being in the panel on the morning show or sky news, or flap his lips on radio. He just wants to be talked about. He wants to be seen as a firebrand. He wants to be indefatigable Jeff.

Jeff was never part of the Hawthorn culture and he never will be. I don't think he actually even gets it. For starters, his public persona represents everything Jeans, Kennedy, Parkin and Joyce hated, and I bet Clarkson too.

It’s not even surprising or shocking any more. Just tedious

Nah fk him. Publicly threatening to relocate my club. Our club. I'm done.

Money talks. You lock the deal in take the cash and then spend the next 3 years telling the Melbourne members how important they are and how we are fighting for more MCG games etc.

We could of course amend the ‘no merger without 75% member support’ to include relocation

Wouldn’t be too hard if members got organized

And let me say it again. Melbourne stadium deals are much more favourable than when we moved the loss making ones to tassie.
And if we’d got the bastards to let us redevelop Waverley, we would t even be in Tasmania.

Funny how in the same quote, Jeff doubted a team could survive being based solely in tassie
