Still longer though. Played 15 games in 2005.
And yet for all of Danger’s individual brilliance it was him who was actually around for many years before winning a flag. Talented talls are absolutely vital to a winning structure moreso than a mid. The Ottens/Cameron comparison was far more apt than Danger.

Look I may be going out on a limb here... but i reckon getting Jezza to the club was a pretty good move.
What do you guys think?

That's why I've always respected you mate - your willingness to go out on a limb and make the big calls.

But you compared cameron to ottens and ottens was around for many years before he won us a flag. So if he is comparable to ottens why not danger? Danger won a brownlow has been a vastly superior player to ottens.

Did I ?
I was absolutely hammered, I really can't remember what I wrote.
Many years though? Ottens came in 2005.

I don't think the thrust of the post (which I really couldn't be arsed arguing about or even looking at) was who was a better player - I'm guessing my point would have been that we've had certain players (like Tommy Quinn and George Moloney, going back) who were recruited to the club and made big contributions to Premiership success within a short period of time - Dangerfield doesn't fit into that category. Nor Bernie Smith (pictured in my avatar hamming it up for the papers post-Brownlow win).

Cameron, like Polly, was a big name recruit from another club who helped steer the club to a flag within two years of arriving. Ottens within 3, as we've just established.

Willing to concede Ottens though; who really cares?

There were a handful of other good examples, but Dangerfield's not one of them.

Geoff Williams and Norm Sharp were good 'uns; both walked into a club that had won a flag the previous year and augmented an already great team superbly.

Williams won the B+F in a Premiership team in his debut VFL season as a 22 year old - from some reports he was pretty much BOG on Grand Final day too (although I've seen some dispute on that - regardless, he was huge).

The picks we gave away for Cameron dropped to picks 15,18 & 23 on draft day. We got back 2 second rounders 30 & 31.
Equivalent points
15. 1112.
18. 985
23. 815

30 629
31. 606

Out. 2912
In. 1235

Overall Cost: 1687

This is equivalent to pick 7.
A great trade that is often reported as three first round picks without analysing it further. Cheaper than May, Lever, Dylan Shiel, Adam Treloar and others.

The 2nd back got us Willis I think, who I'm certain will be banging down the door next year with an uninterrupted pre-season.

In My Defense I have always liked Jeremy Cameron as a player, big fan of his game even before he came to Geelong - I reckon if I searched hard enough I could find a post expressing my admiration way back around 2014ish; I can't remember what I would have written but I vaguely recall him turning it on on their home deck against Harry Taylor - he's a great talent.

I have already fessed up in the I Was Wrong thread - but philosophically, I thought keeping ze picks and skewing younger was a better course.

I was never not happy to have Cameron at the club though ...

We won a flag …the trade has already worked out in our favour

Western Bulldogs supporters used to say that about Boyd and all it got them next was a humiliating defeat in the 2021 grand final, you know as the saying goes 1 in the hand in worth three in the bush... we could have had three in the bush with though we would have lost the two smaller bushes a year later so its getting a little confusing on how to value it.

I'd say the break even is 2 flags as Cameron should be > than Boyd.

You’re aiming too low. Cameron needs to win 5 flags or the trade is an abject failure.
