Saturday was the perfect finale. There is no better way to remember him on and off the field. His retirement also allows an apprentice like Parfitt to make that inside-mid role his own. It's vital for generational change, but the fact is, Joel Selwood is irreplaceable. No player in the club's history has given more.
Yeah much better than say getting knocked out in a semi or whatever next year brings. Going out on top 💪

I am really relieved that he went out this year and didn't hang on.

If next year ended like last year - with his last game being on the other side of the country, playing in an 80-point drubbing, with younger men making him look like he was a million years old - it just wouldn't have been right.

Always go out half a year early, not half a year late.

We will never have another player like him. Not the best player we've had ability-wise, but as the overall package, he is the greatest Geelong player we've ever had. I was happy to hear him talking about continuing in football in the future in an off-field role. I could see him being a great senior coach one day if that's where he wants to go. It's an end of an era, and I feel proud to have watched this man play every game in his career. Thanks, Joel.

I often think of the sliding doors moment when Joel came to the club. If he was taken earlier in the draft as he should've we would not have got his leadership, his skill and his class. The club as a whole would have been so much poorer in so many ways without him, his presence will be felt into the future as well I have no doubt.

I think it's fitting that he draws his playing days to a close not with a whimper but with a bang - he simply couldn't have ended it any better.

He is the greatest cat!

If anyone sees Chris Pelchen at a pub buy him a beer and say thanks for the past 16years
