De Goey had a dirty day until the last, then he was right amongst it when the game was there to be won.

We're the Kiwis at the moment, playing Bazball or in our case McRae ball. And Jordy plays it more than anyone else. For all the talk of Jordy's incredible talent and his underachieving, I don't think he's that talented outside of his physical attributes. He's actually achieving awesomely considering his ball handling - he two touches it every time. But like our team, when we're playing well, what he does is he takes the game on and can make decisions on the Fly and does so regardless of the heat.

The irony is that I think we need that strong mid to get the best out of Jordy consistently.

Carlton played him well. The key to stopping us through the middle was smothering JDG and Setterfield was able to provide enough presence at stoppage to do that then Docherty stretched him on the outside. Geelong will play their own game and won’t put the same time into him, hopefully Adams returns and with a freshen up before the QF I’m sure he’s better next time out.

I think it’s also worth noting that 20 possession games through the middle are impactful with how we play at the G. He obviously didn’t get there so was short of having an impact for most of the game, but he did it when the game was on the line and the days of 30 possession games being the benchmark at Collingwood are over.

J Daicos as an example has 28 and stood out head and shoulders above everyone else through the middle. He would have needed 40 under Buckley to have the same impact…
