Past Jordan "I don’t think Sydney fans should be nervous at all" Dawson: Grand Theft Completed, traded 2021 to Adelaide

In Adelaide's defence they do have different management compared to those days.
Massive cleanout from that era. Living in Adelaide, it's the entitled nature of most Crows fans that gets me... I believe that comes from the club itself & how it has represented itself previously.

The underdog... but better than they are allowed to be... mighty South Aussies that punch above their weight... represent the whole state... yadda yadda.

I've had some of the worst footy experiences at Crows games. Port games though, bit rougher, but much more fun.

Trying to think of the positives of not having Dawson in the team (and there are very few), I think in Blakey & McInerney we can make our rebounding from defence even more aggressive than it already was, without having to lose the elite kicking inside 50 that Dawson offered up the ground (Braeden & Errol can be a huge part in this.)

I've long held the view that Dawson, for all his talents, was not an attacking player in mindset. He did not have the "get and go" instincts of Blakey, McInerney or even a Rampe and Cunningham. He was more calculated, and though that approach resulted in some great kicks, more often than not when the opportunity for that great kick wasn't there, Dawson's impact was somewhat muted.

I said all of the above as far back as the year 1 BD* and it was not well received at the time, so I thought OK maybe I was wrong and just not seeing Dawson the same as everyone else. But then when he was moved up the ground and Blakey + McInerney (Can we just call them Blakinerney?) took over a lot of our rebounding and it just proved more effective and difficult to stop.

I really am convinced that speed and run & carry is so much harder for opposition teams to set up against than elite precision kicking. The latter requires you only needing to shut down the potential marking targets up the ground; the former requires you to actually shut down the ball carrier himself. That's a lot easier said than done when said ball carrier is Blakinerney choking you with their dust.

*Before Deflection.

Nice of you to spare us some time off the draft thread , have you hit 500 yet , can see back to back titles

I was taking the piss going back to back is something else . We haven't hird from you anywhere else.

As was I bedders. Nothing else really on in footy atm. Struggling to get invested in the GF. Desperately want Melbourne to win but if the Bulldogs win and I didn't watch it or talk about it, I can pretend it didn't happen. Hope you're well over there!

Great post!! And I definitely share your views.

Dawson had some great weapons but also some deficiencies (however minor they may be), Blakey and mcinerney also have great weapons, and arguably much more potent and attacking strengths.

It's just a case of the coaching staff using those strengths to build our gameplan around, and I think we can very much cover Dawson's loss.

Would dawson makes better, yes, he offers a special skillset. But can we adjust our game plan with existing players to take advantage of our strengths, absolutely!!
We have the talent, and I back the coaching staff to get the best out of them.

Moving off the interesting yet irrelevant Tippett saga.

Why do the VIC MEDIA assume "look its not great but 23 will get it done, Crows just wont want to change 4 or offer 2022 1st which is needed for Lucocuious/Rankine". This is from Trade Radio, AFL Exchange and now AFL.com content.

I know it has no bearing on what we actually get, but can someone please say "this GUN on $700k per year is worth top 10 pick and Crows need to make it happen"..... FFS

Like do the Swans just go ohhh ok, forgot about this grand plan, our bad???

I will say it now, rather him have to shit himself with Norf nightmares for 5 weeks rather than trade for 23 + 37.....

Rant over.

Agreed. I'd be happy for the swans to play hard ball and watch him go to the PSD. Either we get fair compensation or tell crows to GGF.

I'm not sure whether there's some sort of gentleman's agreement within the AFL where a team WOULD actually take Dawson and either force him to sit out or accept the deal, but that would certainly come into consideration.

No, it was back to either GCS or Lions if he wanted to return home but he did a very quick dash for cash to Sydney and wasn't that pick 18 and White so what is wrong with us offering you guys pick 23 and Frampton/Himmelberg and we aren't even offering Dawson 4 years at $1M per year but reportedly 5 years at $600K per year.
Because we don't have a secret deal with Dawson that is going to blow up in our face.

I know why your here there is trade talk , can you transfer these one to the other to make sure of back to back .

Dawson is about all money and there is nothing wrong with that, just like Tippett. After all Dawson has taken more money on offer to play at the bottom 4 Crows than Port who are in the top 4.
You are aware how sh*t Port Power's record against the top 8 teams is under Hinkley and that they had the easiest draw this year, we even have a better record against the top 4 and had a much harder draw compared to them. It wouldn't surprise me if they drop out of the 8 next year with a harder draw for a team who supposedly finish top 4 after their performance in the PF being overwhelming favourite and then begin the decline with sacking of Hinkley and list turnover.

It has been reported by Tredrea we offer Dawson slightly overs with 5 years at $600K compared to your bid of 5 years at $500K and Port Power offer the lowest with 4 years at $500K so don't compare Tippett with Dawson and Port Power didn't even drive up Dawson price and make us pay like all of you guys wanted.

Disappear please. Enjoy Dawson playing for Norf.

Dawson's GF: Hey, Jordan. Your contract is coming up, and your stocks are sky high, wouldn't you love to move back to Adelaide to be closer to family *cough* and my friends *cough*.

Oh, so port came close to a premiership in 2021 and could possibly win the flag with a couple more key pieces, it would be great if they showed interest.

Oh, Adelaide are offering twice as much, and will be a basket case in the foreseeable future. That's fine, at least we'll be rich, besides, who needs success as a professional athlete anyway, when you've got me bae.

December hits. I'm feeling clucky, and i'm ovulating, let's start trying for a baby. Oh, finals take place in 9 months. That's okay, who needs premierships when you've got me bae.

*apologies in advance to anyone who finds this post sexist or mysoginistic.
* Yes it's both sexist and mysoginistic, still, your point probably stands.

We've lost too many good players due to pressure from their interstate WOG (Wife OR Girlfriend, one can't be both concurrently). An interstate (male) recruit comes into a great job with a ready made group of good mates, but it's usually a fair bit harder for an interstate WOG. It becomes even harder when it comes to buying a house, made it worse by the AFL removing COLA. It's also a lot harder to raise a young family without extended family support.

Perhaps we forget sometimes that footballers are ordinary people, when they're not being our heroes. They eat, they fart, they leave the toliet seat up, forget to pay bills or pick up milk on the way home. They miss buses, they have moods, they get itches, they wake up grumpy, they laugh, they smile, they fall in love and at some point their priority is to build a secure life for those they love. Even the most professional players are, ultimately, merely human, with very human needs.

I expect a young recruit from an AFL state, with a bright future on a senior list ahead of him, would attract girls who might, in other circumstances, not give him as much as a sideways glance. This may not be the case for Dawson or his WOG but many would-be WAGS can be downright mercenary in the pursuit of their prey, especially those from footy states. One only has to watch Brownlow night to see the gaggle of vampishly garbed salacious succubi, clinging to their quarry like lubricious limpets.

Players are mere men after all and, like many men, their small brain often makes their most life-changing decisions. Women have long exploited that flaw in our makeup. Perhaps the Swans WAGS could do more to ensure our interstate recruits are seduced by the charms of local ladies, with their roots firmly in Sydney.

Obviously my preference is for Dawson to build his life in Sydney, with any promising young Dawson offspring inducted straight into our academy, but it's his decision to take, not mine or anyone else's to make. At least he's not betraying his family history and running straight into the arms of our arch-nemesis purely for cash (I'm looking at you Mitchell)

We don't really have a choice in any case, but we have a habit of turning bad news to our advantage. "when life give you lemons...."

I have to stop responding to people on the trade board.
Yeah, AFL boards are impossible to have reasonable conversations on.

Good luck on trying to convince people that Dawson, 3rd B&F, top-rated player in the last half of the year, and probably all australian next year, is worth more than a pick 20.

Oh, and Cerra is worth more than pick 6...
