To put pressure on your club?
To either get Brisbane to increase their offer or shake out any late interest from other clubs. Not great if you're a manager who has advised your client twice to got to clubs in the middle of a pick 1 bidding process (Marra in 2020, Ashcroft this year).
Pickering needs this to work as much as Dunkley does.

Dunkley is a very good player and any club who wants to bolster their midfield would be interested, and someone may think they are now a sneaky chance. It's rare but it happens.

Nope, you are wrong. It's easy to do a quick check on what the reported offer was (by multiple outlets now).

15 and a future first

For

Dunkley, 30, 39 AND a future 3rd

That's a rubbish offer and as much as you try to say those later picks have no value, the reason Brisbane asked for them back is because they do.

Looks like that'll be pretty close to rhe outcome the Lions get after the trades yesterday

Asking for two second rounders back rates Dunkley somewhere around pick 30. Pay what he's worth or miss out.
Your picks in the draft are first rounders? You're happy to reject two first rounders for picks in the 30's and a pick in the 40's.

It's about maximising top 20 picks. If your recruitment team can't get 100/ 200 gamers from at least one of those first rounders then they're struggling.

Well given it came out after we did yesterday's trade it's not going to work that way

Imagine losing your best player to the pre season draft. We all know it won't happen. But still.

As a poster said before if we had to chose between Ashcroft/Fletcher and Dunkley then Dunkley will be going to the pre season draft.

Its two first rounders.

Second rounders are (especially late ones) aren't worth a pinch of shite

The deal was Dunkley + 30 + 39 + F3(42) for 15 & F1(15).

That would 'value' Dunkley at nice pick 26. No where near it.
I’m talking real world value, how teams actually rate picks when it’s not decided by the computer system designed to prop up the Northern clubs and make father sons easy.

Future 3rd is meh. 39 in this draft, meh.

15 + 15 = 8, minus pick 30 = 12. Not far off.

Pick 39

Poor Dunks must be feeling some deja vu right now.

What is likely 2 x pick 15s for Dunkley + 30 + 39 + F3 is surely massive unders.

Dunkley is also significantly better than Taranto for me 🤷‍♂️
And we know this years would have been pick 16 after the Ashcroft bid. Could have been 17 if someone bid a little early on Fletcher too.

Again. Why would Pickering want to leak that?
Get other clubs interested/involved in either Dunkley or a pick swap deal that could help the trade along
Or he may simply be pissed off that the Lions aren't dealing in good faith
