Stupid question but wont dogs just take him back in the PSD?
I can't imagine it'd get to that point...

Dogs were prepared to offer him a contract as far as I'm aware?

If a deal doesn't get done with the Lions surely he just signs on with the Dogs for another 1-2years?

Surely that's more favourable than going to North..

Managers cracking the sads and punishing clubs for not getting trades done in the first 2 days isn't a part of trade period.

Reporters making up bullshit and the AFL setting it up to create these stories is
Player managers work for their clients. They do whatever they need to do to get things moving to get the result their player wants. If they're seeing a divide in the clubs, they absolutely have a word to someone in the media to put some pressure on sides.
They don't care about the benefits of either club.

Why?

Not sure how us getting second rounder for a player (I think we even traded away one) is impacting your ability to accept two first rounders for a player out of contract.

You’re asking for 2 x 2nd round picks and a future third on top of what he’s probably worth alone (2 picks in the late teens or the second pick being around the 20-23 mark), all because 2nd round picks don’t mean shi*? Do you understand how trading works? All clubs would have 50+ players on their whiteboard and would be planning on drafting kids in the 30s. Their job doesn’t stop at pick 29.

This looks to be one of those horrible scenarios yet again with the players holding too much power. It prevents a true value deal getting done.

But I guess it comes out in the wash. Sometimes you get the better end of it. Sometimes you don't. Dogs cleaned up at the draft last a couple years exploiting a broken system. Lions are doing it this year.

Eventually the AFL will look at it you'd hope. But lets not hold our breath.

Currently I think Dogs would be prepared to let Dunkley walk to the PSD if 15 and a future 2nd (with picks coming back too..) is the best Lions can come up with.

The fact Lions need points for Ashcroft is not really the Doggies problem.
The lions have been belted over the last 10 years from players holding too much power. It's about time we get one back.

No they understand that most of the time it works out for everyone

That article does nothing to pressure the Lions. Its just clickbait for idiots

So you're saying I should get into the player managing business? Sounds like easy money. Everything just works out better than expected.

Yep, they mean more to us because we have to match bids. I’m saying in the grand scheme of things second round picks are grossly overrated. To reject two first rounders over them and lose a gun for nothing at all is pretty devoid of common sense

Depends why he wants to leave...

So that automatically means it means nothing to us? May as well cut recruiters salary in half with your mentality.

Can we go with Jake Soligo at 36, Paul Curtis at 35, Errol Gulden at 32, Beau McCreery at 44, Jacob Wehr at 59, Trent Rivers at 32, Noah Cumberland at 43, Michael Frederick at 61? If you know how to draft, you can get extremely good players in the second round and beyond. Expecting to get a B&F winner for two late first rounders is already cheap, expecting two seconds in return is just a laugh.
What about the misses in the 30’s and 40’s

Gees. Crows should be in his ear as he did consider moving to Adelaide. Maybe they need to make sure his girlfriend gets a big contract extension with the Thunderbirds lol. But seriously if this one looks like falling over and it does end up at the PSD, what a potential opportunity to grab a very good player for a value of a contract only

They seem to mean more than two first rounders that’s for sure

Still not sure you are grasping how the trade period works.

Offering two first round picks (based on a players worth) isn’t the same as offering two first round picks but needing two second round picks back because “meh they are overrated picks”.

If you were a list manager, you’d be sacked by now.

I honestly don’t get what you’re on about. I’m saying rejecting two first round picks and walking a player for nothing because you want to keep second round picks (late ones at that) is pretty stupid.

If you’re frothing at the mouth about losing Dunkley for that deal then imagine losing him for nothing.

Second rounders are shite picks. I stand by that. We have asked for them for points matching, that’s different from needing because we think there is going to be a gun player available at pick 40. If you think it’s worth letting him go for nothing then fine
