Dogs
This is what we have at present 21, 34, 35 (compo pick), 36, 38, 48, 55, then 56 & 73 the Lions will use for Gunston (maybe 55 & 73)

I imagine the Lions are trying to put up 21 + one of our other picks to secure for arguements sake pick 18 or 19 from GWS
As long as we don't lose many/any points in the deal

Then we can offer F1 & 18/19
Throw in a F2 and you’ve got a deal, 1x late first, 1x early 2nd, 1x late 2nd.

Seems about right

He’s not coming back to the dogs. He has requested to get out of there twice, and his manager has just come out and said he is not going to be there next year.

If an employer disallowed my transfer to another place of work, not once but twice, zero chance I’m walking back in there. Absolutely delusional thinking. Especially if my contractual obligation to that workplace had expired.

I think it’s time for the Doggies’ supporter base to wrap their heads around the reality that no matter what happens, he isn’t returning.

Go have a browse of the Bulldogs board or any other social media if you need to be cured of the idea that anything other than a tiny percentage of Dogs supporters are keen to see him stay. The guy requested a trade to the Bombres and has been out the door for two years and there’s not much attachment to him. It’s why in this unique instance the PSD wouldn’t be a club killer. Fair percentage of supporters are completely off him or don’t care about him going, other than the trade return.

Plus the fact it’s in our best interests to not improve our direct competitor for nothing.

We know he’s not coming back and don’t even want him back. But for us losing him for nothing to North is better than losing him to Brisbane for an upgrade of 2nd rounders as was offered. It directly gives us a better chance of winning the flag next year (which we’re loading up on with Lobb & Jones) having him at North then Brisbane.

Not sure why Brisbane supporters cant see this. We will not have him back but we’re not gonna give them a hand out.

If they come to the table and end up offering what we will accept, ie 2x firsts or equivalent then yes of course the deal will get done. On current offers we send him to north and wipe our hands of it and not give a shit.

They’re not getting a freebie as badly as they want one

Which I find super entertaining. At the end of the day the only people who lose in that situation are the dogs, they get nothing. Brisbane get to hold their picks and still get two first round picks and Gunston.

I find it staggering that Doggies’ posters here are all about “making a stand” and want to “send a message” to all clubs going forwards. It’s not like you’re a feeder club who gets pilfered every year like the expansion clubs. It happens once to you guys and toys are out of the cot. Popcorn sales are through the roof at the moment with the theatrics coming from a percentage of the supporter base.

Got any proof of this from our inner sanctum?

Cheers

There has been a lot of :eggplant: swinging on both sides. Can we just agree that Dunkley gets to Brisbane on a reasonable deal. He was a vg player for us, got a premiership medal, so wish him the best. After a good night sleep, I hope he doesnt get walked into the PSD, he deserves better.
Yeh I don't think a deal won't get done. I don't think the dogs internally will be too upset with what they will end up getting either.

Cool, man. Could say the same about the nuffy Bears supporters like you that get emotional about it.

We objectively have a better chance of winning the flag over the next two years with Dunks at North and nothing in return than Dunks at Brissy with some pick upgrades in return.

No we’re not a feeder club and we’re not about to become one, allowing you to rip us off because hey we have no other options would very quickly make us become one. Maybe if you took a stand all those years ago you wouldn’t have become one for that period of time.

No one is saying we will send him to the PSD if we get what we’ve want. But if we dont, as it stands the offer of an upgrade of 2nd rounders to firsts, we will happily send him to the PSD rather than help a direct competitor. It’s that simple

I’m talking about the hyperbole of the majority of Doggies posters on here, not the club itself

Most of the dogs supporters on here are not happy with the opening trade offer.

Key word - opening.

So much more to play out.

Then some lions think it’s fair. Which is their opinion.

The rest is all di** sizing.

Don’t generalise.

Ease up turbo, no need for the personal insults.

This is the part of trades like this (and Ollie Henry to Geelong) I don't really understand.

All well and good for players to request trades to a certain state and or club, but if said nominated club is not willing to come to the party, esp the Lions and Dogs will be thereabouts as finals contenders again next season, makes no sense for The Dogs to greatly strengthen their rivals hand for less than adequate compensation.

Unless Brisbane back off on their 2nd round pick demands, I think the Dogs are better off letting him go for nothing to the PSD for nothing, rather than trade Dunkley (Charlie Sutton B and F medalist) for unders/loss from a player asset perspective.

Got no sympathy for Dunkley and his partner's situation in this scenario either, because he could have nominated Gold Coast very easily

What were your thoughts on how the Jack Martin deal eventuated?

What were your thoughts on how the Jack Martin deal eventuated?

Not that pleased, given Martin has not really given Carlton fair value for money tbh

I have nothing against The Lions (was supporting you big time in the prelim against Geelong) but i am looking at this scenario from the Dogs perspective (a club ironically I don't particularly like at all for some odd reason)

I do get/sympathise somewhat with your need to get points for Ashcroft/Fletcher etc, but Dunkley was The Dogs best player this season, and i feel like they deserve to be somewhat adequately compensated, and right now, it doesn't seem like they are getting it.

Ultimately I do hope a trade between the Dogs and Lions gets done (no club wins if Dunkley goes into the PSD)

Having said that, I realise Carlton got Docherty from The Lions for way unders, so I probably should be a bit more sympathetic to The Lions.

Ultimately it feels like the AFL have almost created more problems than its solved (with trading players) with their points system and accumulation for F/S and NGA selections.

I would honestly do 21, F1 and F2 (either one), and let us deal with trying to trade up in the draft if we had to. And send Dunkley with pick 39, and F3 back. It's only a 400 point difference, which can easily be bridged by more pick swaps or a fringe player traded out. Pretty sure the Lions have a couple more players up for trade. In all honestly, I think Lions have the points covered, and do not think Fletcher will bid on as high as some people think.

Freebie? Jesus wept....

When did a first round and an early second round pick become a freebie? Might not be want you want, but it's not a freebie.

On the other hand, walking Dunkley to the PSD is ludicrous, and you will in effect be losing him for nothing.

Given the choice of a first and second round pick instead of no return, I think I know what a rational person would choose.

But hey, continue to hold your imaginary line on Big Footy and we will see what the folks in the real world come up with on Wednesday.

No one ran anywhere though, people are asked to comment and they give an update. We want 2 first rounders and we'll deal, it's a consistent message.

Two 1st rounders for an uncontracted player is an ambit claim…you’re not entitled to something just because you want it…is it the half-finished Taranto deal that’s driving this entitlement? Or is about ‘winning’ trades, Dodo-style? 🤷‍♂️

The rest of the league is getting a good look at the Dogs culture…making life hard for Dunkley after the past two years of patiently and diplomatically trying to gtfo out of there would be a sure way to build a reputation as a club to avoid dealing with or moving to

From all reports the offers have been 15 & F1 for 30, 39 & F3 which EVERYBODY has said is insulting.

Where’s it been reported you offered a first and 2nd? You may end up getting there, but as it stands you have NOT.

**** me you blokes are unbelievable, as I said if you offer a reasonable offer it will get done, if you don’t improve on your CURRENT reported offer, then no it will not

I guess you don't have to trade for him if you don't think he's worth the cost.

You are outlaying $750k(?) over 6 years so you must value him pretty highly.

Given that we don't own pick 15 anymore, I can't imagine GWS would be happy with us offering it.

In which case, are you angry about an offer you don't know the details of?

No… if you get our 2x late first rounders, which is more than fair on our end, then we’ll happily trade. It’s that simple.

Bit rich for Brissy supporters to blame us though when the deals you’re talking about you don’t even know have been offered and would be unlikely considering where you started.

You don’t think the first offer was insulting?
