Re: Kangaroos Player "walks out" on the club

Many North supporters have disagreed with me on this in the past but Gibson really is a very average player. Anything better than pick 25 would be a massive win to us.

Anyone who has watched North play in the 2nd half of this year will know that Gibson can no longer get a game in the backline and has been playing in the midfield (and failing miserably).

Scott met with the players this week and Gibson would not have liked the conversation.

Hopefully a fair deal will be done :thumbsu:

You could have said that 2-3 years ago, but not anymore. The whole footy department has changed since then and we have a new recruiter, talent manager and coach. You think we would make the same mistake twice?

Would a starving man beg for food more than once?

You'll take what you can get, it's no shame, it's just reality. I think a number of clubs have had to cop this kind of thing before.

Hawthorn offer 2nd round pick, north refuse. Hawthorn tells gibson to enter National Draft with a price on his head which the club is offering.

Gibson enters draft and hawthorn use 2nd pick to take him.

meaning

Hawthorn use the pick they intended to give north
Hawthorn get the player they want
North Melbourne go off crying from another bungled trading period involving Hawthorn

Can't set price in ND, you go at standard rates for two years and would get picked up by Port if not sooner.

Gibbo has to move interstate, Hawks get nothing, you fail to get into the top 8 again next year. ;)

win, win, win.

I'd be happy for Port to get Gibbo for nothing to us as a valuable lesson to players who think they can screw us. If we are only looking at a crap pick the lesson is more valuable than the pick.

You must be the mastermind that is behind all of Collingwood's fantastic trading success. Which big name player are you guys interested in this time? ;)

Gibson is an average defender if the midfield is average. He is a guy that needs there to be defensive pressure so he has a fighting chance. But, when the midfield puts in then he is a very good competitor.

He is average if guys like Franklin and the long list of other players he has beaten are considered average as well.

What makes people think the Hawks are only chasing Gibson? They'll be talking to half a dozen players at different clubs and seeing what they can get over the line. Gibson might be the number one target, on the other hand he might be the sixth-in-line safety option if all the other deals fall through.

players who have already played AFL can set a price in ND, it is only New players which are not allowed to.

This...bit short for what the Hawks require I would think

I'd say this will involve pick 9. It's overpaying but if you offer the guy 800k over 3, then clearly you really want him.

You plant your claim this early, you have to back it up.

And we have played some silly games with Thornton and O'Keefe over the last couple of years. The intention is reasonable, the execution less so.

Good call. There's still a hell of a long way to go with this.

Does Hale hold any interest for the Hawks - in his ruck incarnation?

Yes, but I wouldn't throw the kitchen sink out for him.

How would you package Gibson and Hale up together?

My view for Gibson solo is your second for our first (Gibson + 21 for 9) FWIW.

Is this the same Josh Gibson that was looked after by North when he fell over in the bath ?
Is this the same Chris Pelican who stuffed up the ROK deal, he is a goose.
you do realise that not giving up pick 16 meant that Hawthorn got to pick up a kid who will most likely hold down CHB for the next 10 yrs dont you?

.

You're making it sound like we are paying him a massive amount, we are paying him just above average wage.

FFS Dawson will be on $250k a season for 2 years. Thats $500k for 2 years.

Your missing the point, dipper86.

If the story is accurate they have offered him a three year deal. Xavier Ellis didn't get a three year first up and we invested pick 3 in him. I'll wager the length of tenure is at least as important as the money.

As to the money, well it is more likely to be something like 300/250/250, but it is a substantial commitment nonetheless.
