Josh Gibson "walks out" on the club - Wants to go to Hawthorn

Is it possible that Gibson has no intention of leaving North and his manager has made the whole thing up so his client gets a better deal?

Could be because our chief has already mentioned he is a required player and currently in negotiations.

Re: Kangaroos Player "walks out" on the club

Gibson can put a price on his head.
He could ask for 1 mill year if he wants to.
no club will pay that sunshine.

Then he gets drafted by Hawthorn and re- negotiates his contract.
All done.

bye bye

lol are you stupid? Then NOBODY would pick him up and his career would just get flushed down the toilet. Hawks don't have $1m cap space to pick him up, nobody that has would pay $1m.

If someone puts a price of $1m on their head then it goes onto your Salary Cap, even if you re-negotiate.

He wont go into the PSD, he would re-sign before going the PSD, just like other Hawthorn targets.

He asked for a trade, he didn't walk out.

What is your point? ROK is more polite than Gibson?

Didn't you see the interviews of Sydney players including their skipper inviting ROK back into the club with open arms and saying there will be no hard feelings?

I know this probably isn't where I should ask it, but can somebody PM me a picture of Gibson in a Hawks jumper? Friend of mines mad Roo supporter and Gibsons her favourite player, good fun getting stuck into her over this. :D

Re: Josh gibson to hawthorn !!!!!

Rubbish. You have 7 other clubs to scare off first and foremost. Then whatever figure he nominates Hawthorn have to count under the salary cap next year regardless of what you actually pay him. There are rules regarding draft tampering which is why the AFL were watching the Judd to Carlton deal. It is a massive risk for Gibson but zero risk for the Hawks unless he nominates 700k a year for one year, or $2m for 3 years with a verbal understanding to renegotiate for a lower figure. If Gibson then got injured or didn't want to renegotiate the Hawks could do nothing about it without exposing themselves as draft tamperers. In the end, this sort of deal seldom gets off the ground.

The Roos need to be willing participants or need to blink first and not risk losing him for nothing in the PSD.

A long way to go on this one. Day 4-5 of trade week, here we come.

Yes , he could nominate $700- $800 for one year.
would Freo or Melbourne etc pay that for a player who doenst want to be there and can leave after one year?
I dont think that is a wise move from other clubs.
Roos still could pick him up for $700 - $800 a year if they want as well.
reported he is on $250. Good luck to him.
Its a gamble.
Roos wont get pick 9.
25 is about right
and the can let him go for nothing

If it is so easy why didn't ROK do this given he was so desperate to get back to Melbourne?

Also, just out of interest, who do you follow?

?
I think the Hawks are more desperate for a full back and are willing to pay more $ for it.
More $ than ROK would of been worth.
but it would all depend on salary cap.

Re: Josh gibson to hawthorn !!!!!

Not that pick 9 is probably a bit over value, but i'd say for the hawks it would be worth the price. You're looking at one of the youngest lists in the AFL that won a flag less than 12 months ago. Gibson would easily slot into their starting 18 which is probably more than you can say about a kid they pick up with pick 9. He fills a need at the hawks which is why i assume they targeted him, why beat around the bush, get ur man!

Re: Kangaroos Player "walks out" on the club

This is the whole point. You Hawks supporters keep saying the Roos will get nothing but it will not be the case. Do you honestly think that Gibson will prefer to play for Melbourne or Fremantle in favour of re-signing with the Roos? I think not.

You would think that after all thgat went on last season people would realise how hard it is for players to move clubs.

North are in a relatively strong position imo. A position of comfort. Hawks come up with a resonable offer or Gibson re-signs.

2nd round pick does not cut it, nor does pick 9 from Hawks perspective. Some middle ground needs to be found.

You didn't read my post. The AFL have changed the rules.

Carlton's threat to re-draft Thornton in the PSD was a possible restraint of trade
Players who walk out on their club can now nominate for the November draft

We'll use our pick 25 in November to draft Gibson and North will get nothing in return. Melbourne or Freo will not use their early November picks on Gibson because he isn't worth it. Sydney may trump us with their pick 22, but North will still get nothing in return.

North will want something in exchange or risk losing him for nothing.

Going into the national draft just gives you an extra opportunity to get drafted. It doesn't change the fact that there are opportunities for others to pick you up, even more so in the national draft. Gibson would have to be prepared to get picked up by another team. In most cases, the player would re-sign. It's not as though he wants to go home to another state so is just happy to go wherever.

He asked for a trade, he didn't walk out.

Walk out is figurative, he is overseas on his end of season trip. His manager has been in discussion with the club and Gibbo asked his manager to arrange a trade.

I'd prefer to make a trade, if a player wants to go I don't see the positive in keeping them, especially given we have the players to cover him. If we get a decent pick or equivalent player then it could be a positive.

Another club would pick him with their second round pick before Hawthorn, Port would for sure, so if they are going to be using something better than their second round pick then they would trade it and just avoid the hassle because who knows what some would be prepared to pay.

Yes, this goes without saying. But it also means that North are not holding all the aces and can play hardball like Carlton were able to with Thornton and their PSD pick. There is a greater leverage on North to get a fair deal done.

Out of interest, for all the whackers out ther who think Gibson is worth pick 9, here are picks 9-13 from previous drafts:

2008 - Jack Ziebell, Phil Davis, Steele Sidebottom, Lewis Johnston, Tom Lynch
2007 - Ben McEvoy, Patrick Dangerfield, Patrick Veszpremi, Cyril Rioli, Brad Ebert
2006 - David Armitage, Nathan Brown, Andrejs Everitt, James Frawley, Jack Riewoldt
2005 - Mitchell Clark, Marcus Drum, Shaun Higgins, Nathan Jones, Shannon Hurn
2004 - Jordan Russell, Chris Egan, Adam Thomson, Danny Meyer, Matthew Bate
2003 - David Trotter, Ryley Dunn, Beau Waters, Ryan Murphy, Brent Stanton
2002 - Hamish McIntosh, Jason Laycock, Jason Winderlich, Jay Schulz, Byron Schammer
2001 - Luke Molan, Sam Power, Richard Cole, Brent Reilly, Nick Dal Santo
2000 - Kayne Pettifer, Jordan McMahon, Trent Sporn, Shaun Burgoyne, Ashley McGrath
1999 - Caydn Beetham, Luke McPharlin, Darren Glass, Paul Koulouriotis, Robert Murphy
1998 - Mark McVeigh, Brandon Hill, Lenny Hayes, Adam Ramanauskas, Chris Lamb
1997 - Chad Cornes, Shane O'Bree, Jason Saddington, Jaxon Crabb, Callum Chambers
1996 - Mark Harwood, Nathan Brown, Brent Grgic, Heath Black, Tom Gilligan

I did read your post. Since when can players nominate for the National draft when they are still contracted to a club?
