Would require Norths first, which would be top 5ish you'd expect?

So they're offering a decade long million a year deal almost, for their top 5 pick? Why not just back yourselves at the draft to get someone just as good and pay **** all in salary for a few years...

Honestly, IF the rumour was true (and I don't think it is), I'd do it if I were North.

Salary cap is going to have a fairly aggressive growth over the next few years, and Kelly is bloody class.

I'd do it without hesitation.

Their first round pick could very well be top 4 so I think that would almost complete it. The Giants hold 2 or 3 second round picks this year so maybe north's 2nd (19-24) for a later 2nd round pick from the Giants would also be reasonable.
I have suggested our first and a swap of second round picks as a starting point. A first and second may be more appropriate.

Assuming your first pick is around 5-10; I'd say your first and second is a pretty reasonable trade.

Lol at a top 4 pick with North getting something back

Would cost two firsts
*Top 4 pick + 2nd round pick with North getting something back

Why is the benchmark for every good player set at two first round picks now? GWS starved Collingwood for Treloar and we caved in but for some reason, now that's the bar. Treloar is the first player to cost two first round picks since Brad Ottens. Shiel wouldn't cost that, Schache wouldn't cost that, Lever wouldn't cost that, Kelly won't cost that.

Kelly is going to be better than Treloar. I'd be stunned if the trade is less than that. Assuming he has a good season will go close to AA. Those players don't grow on trees especially mids who have elite foot skills who get it 25-30+ times per game.

What I said is pretty bang on I think - Top 4 pick + 2nd round pick for Kelly + late 2nd or 3rd round pick.

It would need to be a similar trade as Treloar. Kelly is heading in the way of Treloar. I would think something like Norths first this year for GWS second then a swapping of first rounds next year.

LOL at "As if North have the money"

LOL at GWS sooking about mid season mega approaches being made to their players.

GWS shouldn't be giving anything back unless it is two firsts. Should be the same as the Treloar deal basically.

Solid point actually.

FWIW, I don't think it will last very long. The loosening of free agency restrictions will result in more and more clubs willing to wait out clubs asking for too much in compensation.

Honestly, if a player wants out, and you can get a top 10 pick for him - I think almost always that's pretty fair.

Kelly will be a better player than Treloar IMO - and I believe the Pies overpaid.

I think if North's pick falls somewhere around 5-8. North's first this year and 2nd rounder would get it done.

You're offering him a 9 year @ 1 million deal. He's shown just as much as Treloar and you're dealing with the club that demanded 2 1sts for him. They're going to expect the same for Kelly. You can't pay a kid like he's one of the top 5 players in the comp and expect to get him for 1 1st rounder.

Why would he want to go to North?

Much more attractive options to be had IMO

We will be back right in contention very quickly. You may have noticed some very good young players on Sunday.

That seems heavily in Norths favour.

Treloar at the time of trading was a better player than Kelly.

Maybe drop off the GWS 2017 2nd rounder so

North lose 2017 and 2018 first but get Kelly and GWS 2018 first

GWS lose kelly and 2018 first but get Norths 2017 and 2018 firsts?

North look fine.

They've got some good young talent, a decent draft position and seem to have a realistic view of where they are. As good a spot as any to sign a long term deal IMO.
