Your missing the fact he is out of contract, certainly doesn't destroy his value but somewhat diminishes GWS' bargaining power.

Didn't help us with JOM :(

Personally think it's a good risk by NTH (subject to cost), could easily be the best midfielder in the game in the next few years.

Talk of giving up 2 first rounders? Absolutely no way, unless North have a much better than expected season.

A top 5ish pick is enough value despite the huge contract offer.

So he has dropped in value from getting picked at pick 2!!! He has not dropped in value, he has increased. We all know he can cut it at afl and you expect GWS to develop him into one of the better young mids in the comp and take a loss on their investment!!!

I really dislike this view.

Where a player is drafted, or what was 'paid' to get him has no relevance on what they should be worth if and when they decide to go elsewhere.

Kelly is an absolute gun but still a fair bit of risk in this deal. He's more of a cream rather than cake player and is essentially free to do what he likes up at GWS. Yet to prove himself against a hard tag or as a number 1 midfielder, and I don't think he's the sort of player that could drag his team to a win.

I guess it's going depend on the increase in salary cap but 9 years is a bloody huge risk (I'm aware Tom Boyd was a 7 year contract and that could still be a risk going forward).

Just on this (and I know it was only a JLT game, but we've got limited sample size to work from) in the first 2 JLT games this year, Kelly was one of the few senior Giants taking the midfield against West Coast.

He had 29 disposals and 9 tackles.

I suspect he'll go to new heights with more responsibility. For now it's more like he's pushed to the edges a little

Since when does a highly rated player ever get traded for something of equal 'value'? It just doesn't happen, not to mention he'll be uncontracted.

GWS obviously want to keep him but if they can't afford to keep him, they then save a lot of salary cap in and bring in another gun youngster and pay him peanuts for a few years.

Bloody hell this is a massive offer. My personal opinion is I think these kind of offers should only go out if you think the player can legitimately get you over the line when it counts in a grand final.

Let's see how Kelly goes this year before we decide whether he's worth it.

Who cares some campaigner gets the money I believe the five we lost including Wells were paid around 2.2 mil last season. A great move by North lets see if we can pull it off. Not the only guy with a huge offer in front of him.

He'll have Cunnington and Ziebell protecting him. Very good move from North.

If these rumours are true, I'd almost bet my house on Kelly leaving. That is an absolute monster of an offer and almost too good to refuse.

As far as his value, depending on where Norf finish on the ladder, you'd think their first plus a sweetener like an upgrade in the second round sounds about right to me. The only way I see him going for a straight swap for a pick is in Norf finish bottom 3.

I hate to see these things happen (not that they ever really do) but the lower our pick the more likely we push the trade until the final day with the threat of the PSD there. There won't be many clubs below us that would match our deal on him.

If we finish 10-12 there'll be far more power in for GWS negotiating.

Totally agree. With such a massive offer, you have massive hand.

I can't imagine we'll try to rob them, North have always been pretty fair around the trade table but yeah, it's a card up the sleeve so I reckon they'll try to get it done quick.

The club will be mindful that they have access to a couple of highly rated father son picks in Rock and Blakey juniors and a couple of really intriguing Tasmanian academy juniors (one being Tarryn Thomas who looks like an early top five pick) so we probably won't be messing with 2018 picks.

First and a player (perhaps one of Goldstein or Pruess) I think but it always depends on who blinks first.

We are building a team around Dusty - Kelly is just the icing.
SO you're getting Martin and Kelly? WHat about Fyfe and Shiel or maybe even Cripps? You'll get Kelly but only becuase your paying him way overs. No chance of getting Dusty,You think he's going to a club for 100-200k before tax that is behind his current club?

Coupled with the Heeney offer it seems more desperate rather than a well executed plan.
