We do not need another midfielder in the immediate future. But, we certainly need Roughy.

The last time we traded out a player who went on to become a champion at another club we had one of the most successful eras in the history of the game.
I can see history repeating :)

How do Hawks see a straight swap for Roughhead? Overs/Unders/Even for you guys?
I see it as complete insanity.

Slowish inside mids, we do not need. It's the reason he didn't get the security he wanted in the first place.

Roughead is untradeable.

Hope I am welcome to post here.

Talk on the Swan's board is that JPK's expires at the end of the season and he has yet to re-sign. Though he (or his manager) is probably holding out until all the awards have been given out (standing in Brownlow, Club BnF, Norm Smith ;), etc) so he can up his contract value, I can't shake off the feeling that there may be a slight chance - however small it may be - that he might want to go back to Hawthorn.

Assuming you guys get Pick 18 (absolute worst case scenario, as opposed to pick 21 for winning the premiership), can you guys see a fair trade happening? Obviously Pick 18 by itself will not be enough. JPK also does not seem like the type of guy to just walk out on the club and go in the PSD if something does not eventuate.

I think if he came back to Hawthorn it will be late in his career. How many games did he play for Hawks how many more games does he need for him to get to 100 games for father son. This is the only reason he would what to come back I believe. So his kids could play at the club his Grand father and Father played for.

I don't see why this continues to be a topic of conversation. Hawthorn have always been loaded with strong, grunty ball winners. It's probably been to their detriment in terms of balance as they have searched for more on ballers. Really lucky that guys like Lewis and Hodge can play duel positions.

No doubt JPK has become an elite player but in the now he wouldn't really improve us.

We are wasting their time because according to their ex-coach earlier this year, there isn't a single Hawthorn player that the Swans would take o_O
I think 'maybe Franklin' was mentioned.

What decision? To not offer him multiple years at decent coin and job security when he was borderline 22?

He wasn't borderline 22, he was an emerging inside midfielder. I can't believe the club didn't have the foresight to acknowledge that we would one day need to replace Sewell/Mitchell, etc. JK3 was as good or better a prospect then as any inside midfielder we currently have. It would be like trading Shiels out.

Taylor Duryea looks like a player and we did get him with Pick 80 or something in this trade, but it still won't be enough to compensate. We'd need Grimley to step up in order to break even.

Grimley, Stratton, Duryea.

At the end of the day, who would he replace in the lineup this season?

If he was a 17 year old now, yes, i'd agree, we'd keep him. Just a bad time to be an inside mid at Hawthorn for him.

There's this little thing called the salary cap, and the fact that you can only have 38 on the list.

Regardless of what you say now, he was borderline 22, and Sydney offered him more money, and more game time.

And, as slavery is sadly illegal now, we couldn't keep him against his will. Even though I offered the use of my gimp dungeon and everything...

Very easy to say 3 years down the track. He played 10 games in 09 and yeah, he was promising but he was promised an integral role in the 22 at Sydney as well as better money. We couldn't offer that, so he left.
