Check out the video , he clearly jumped up to avoid contact , if he put as much effort into bumping him ( and you can clearly see in the video if you want to) he could have.
Don’t try to sugar coat things.

He jumped to the left to avoid the head as Ridley was a lot lower picking the ball up, what's your point?

Except when he kicked the match winning goal though, yeah? :confusedv1:

Hey I liked the match winning goal just like everyone else! It sometimes very difficult to explain things when writing a post in a few lines!
The goal he kicked fantastic, that is his bread and butter . As a young small forward I think he’s great but he has to be harder, no one likes to see players with a half hearted efforts. We all want him to be better.

So not so much a "slow" decision maker ;)

The problem is that when he does decide to grab the ball he takes one step to many and then takes too long to decide what to do with it.

We must be watching different games.

Go watch those extended highlights packages the AFL app puts together and point me to those.

He does get caught more than some other players, but as does Rankine, as does basically every creative forward half player. Because they are looking to create scores every time they get the ball, instead of just passing to someone else to take the pressure of themselves.

As a kid you’re always taught that if you’re outnumbered that getting caught holding the ball is a better outcome then panicking and giving the footy up in open play. Can’t get mad when someone actually takes that advice on board.

Saw that and thought he didn’t have much of an option,

I think the better option was to let Ridley take the ball and then tackle him. However I think that’s a shift in mindset that all players are still adjusting to. The alternative is to barrel in to get the ball when an opponent already has their head down and cop a 3-4 week suspension.

For context, Murphy is supposedly a defensive player.

Many even believe he plays a defensive forward role.

Murphy had 7 pressure acts 2 tackles, none I side 50. With 1 disposal in the last quarter.

Rachele 21 pressure acts, 3 tackles inside 50. Which is equal highest in the game with Taylor.
Yes only 3 disposals in the final quarter, but they all counted with 1.1.

Rachele's defensive issues are as mythical as Murphy's forward defensive, or any defensive, role.

And check back on the two times Rachele supposedly let Redman loose. Murphy was his direct opponent. Rachele trying to cover Murphy’s loose check.

Lazy commentary throwing Rachele under the bus.

Given Murphy spent most of the game supposedly tagging Redman, only 7 pressure acts is poor.

Bond had 23, and he dropped off his defensive tag in the second half to get more of his own ball.

What is Murphy actually good at?

Sorry, but that footage of him v Ridley is damning. Anyone who says otherwise needs to take their Crom coloured glasses off. That was pathetic.

Simply must find a way to be harder. That’s not going to cut it in a final.
Maybe read the comments from the non Crows supporters and you might learn something ;) Have you heard Kane Cornes criticize that ;)

What's damning about it? I'd rather he did that than complete the bump and get suspended for a month.

Mainly interested in winning games, as opposed to players demonstrating how tough they are.

Doesn’t matter, just need to move him off the list, cut our losses, we shouldn’t keep him just because we can’t get something for him, that should be a clue in itself.
I tend to agree and ultimately I don’t think Jones makes it. Given how many others we need to move on though, think he’s down the list in terms of cuts.

You’d rather our players lose 50/50 contests when the ball is in dispute because you don’t want them to get suspended. Do you know how ridiculous that sounds?

Ridley didn’t bump. He just went harder at the ball and won it. If you’re interested in winning games of footy, not sure how many games we’d win if all our players treated contests like Rash did there.

I’m actually shocked how anyone can’t see that. What is going on.

Oof, that's some seriously aggressive cherry picking of stats.

Seeing defensively, Murphys pace has been 4.38 tackles (1.9 inside 50 tackles) and 16.75 pressure acts since his recall in round 10. Of course, the commentary around Racheles defense is equally off the mark seeing he's been at a 3 tackles (1.3 i50 tackles), 16.33 pressure acts since round 10. That said, there tends to be the occasional game where someone doesn't impact defensively, usually when someone else is going absolutely nuts on that side.

On that side of the ball, both have been quite solid since round 10.

Taking the game on is also something that you absolutely do not want your highly talented players being trained not to do. He'll get caught early in his career. That's ok. The game will still slow down for him with experience like it does every other player.

Just try not to destroy his flair and confidence along the way. You know, the things you drafted him for.

Ridley already had possession which is why it allowed Rachele to see it and jump left at the last second to avoid his head, had both arrived at the same time then Rachele probably wouldn't have time and been suspended if he choose to bump. The only option was to slow down and then wait but then you probably said he was being lazy lol.

Ridley was first to the ball and had his head over it, I’m not sure if you’re following footy much, but there’s no way of legally winning the footy from the position Rach was in.

I’m going to put it simply, Rachele has things to work on which I think he is doing and will have a higher ceiling.

Now we have another half forward who doesn’t have a higher ceiling and won’t get any better. This is as good as it gets for this player. It will still be the same shit each week from him and one thing I do know, he won’t win a game of his own boot.

**** me, Murphy shouldn’t be in the side period!

And how about as a forward, you know hitting the ****ing scoreboard. We don’t need another Petrenko experiment.

And some people need to understand the definition of pressure act. One of the definitions is “A pressure act can be chasing”

Rachele had 21 pressure acts tonight. 6th highest for us and top 10 in the game. I would suggest his pressure is fine. Still needs to lift his physicality a bit but most weeks he is in the top half of the team for pressure acts

Keays 2nd in game and 1st for us. Fancy the small forwards that have winning ball as primary objective also applying the most pressure. Not defensive forward Murphy who was 8th bottom on the ground.

It's hardly an experiment. It's not uncommon for teams in the league opt to run defensive or more outside leaning small forwards in the bottom slots of the forward line. Right now, we see guys like Alex Neal-Bullen, Beau McCreary, Sam Switkowski, Toby Bedford as the more defensive specialists. Equally, guys like Lachie Fogarty, Lachie Murphy, Jackson Mead, James Jordan as attempts to give reinforcement to both areas. Everyone there is <= 0.6 goals per game and outside of Murphy, mainstays in currently good teams.

Few reasons why this occurs:

* You have the salary cap to deal with. People who kick goals tend to get paid and the forward line is not an area where you want an excessive amount of salary cap being soaked up in. After all, there are more important positions, especially at the bottom slots of a lineup. The name of the game here is as much value as you can get as cheaply as you can get. Equally goalkicking is a talent game, and the value of 2-3 big time goalkickers is it does buy flexibility here.
* It's also find to hard reliable goalkickers at this point in a teams list who aren't horribly flawed in their own right. After all, those who are reliable are selected. Equally, you're likely not getting the amount of goals out of this slot to off-set those flaws (the max you could expect from a 6th-7th forward would be 1 a game).
* A forward line needs to be able to stifle opposition ball movement. No good kicking another half a goal a game if the opposition is going to have a field day transitioning through your defensive zones.

Is it time we should be looking to move on Murphy? Probably, but that's more to do with our needs changing in this slot and Chayce Jones falling down the pecking order.

Can’t fathom the criticism. Sounds like some on here would rather if Rachele played like Rory Laird.

Haven't fallen for anything. At his best he could be Gary Jnr.
I think it's fair to ask him to go when it's his turn. I counted at least 3 really bad efforts last night.
They matter.
I really like Rachele and what he can become but jeez we have had one person in our clubs history that I'd have in Gablett Juniors stratosphere and I still think Gablett is better than him
