Collingwood v Fremantle actual highlights of the final. Freo use the white clash strip as the away team against Pies in black and no clash.Something like this? Great idea genius.
Carlton v Collingwood (with Collingwood wearing white as we were away) and no clash
And then the usual shitshow that happens when Carlton are too pig headed to use a clash strip
It really aint hard, if you are away to a team that plays in a dark kit...dont use a dark jumper.

To be honest, I think only the middle example is acceptable.
The first example is a shit show when the playes are front on, the last is shit from the back.
This is the perfect advertisement for a third strip. Freo would look good incorporating some green or red, and Carlton could revert to the old M&Ms shade of blue.
But I'm not getting my hopes up.
Not suggesting Collingwood are in any way responsible for the situation, but they should just wear this every time the two clubs play, like Eddie suggested a few years ago. North wear white shorts whenever we play the Bulldogs home or away, it's just common sense and it makes the game easier to watch. And it's also the jumper Collingwood wore for most of their history, completely maintains the black and white stripes identity of the club, and it looks great.
I dont disagree.
When Collingwood are away to the other Melbourne clubs who have a dark strip, playing in the white kit looks great and ensures no clash.
I dont really care how it happens, but two clubs should never both be in a dark jumper.

I understand the argument that it’s Collingwood’s home game and they should be able to wear whatever they want.
However, their home jumper does create clashes. The white stripes are too wide. That Freo game shows that, even when a club does the right thing and has an all white jumper and an all dark (purple) jumper it still makes it messy.
Pies should go back to the thickness of stripes from the 2000s, would create much better contrast with white jumpers like Freo and Carlton’s.

Collingwood fans shouldn't harp on about Port's white number panel, considering their own club's home guernsey creates the same issues from the front.
The real solution is for the AFL to enforce a proper uniform policy, which encompasses the entire kit - jumper, shorts and socks.
The amount of gimmick jumpers that exist currently have confirmed that brand and tradition is a redundant concept if the club can make a buck.
At a minimum AFL House policy should ensure all clubs have
A full preferred kit
A full alternate kit
An additional CLASH kit
The additional CLASH kit is for rare instance where both HOME and AWAY kits dont provide enough contrast with the opposition.
Another poster has already had a crack at providing example uniform match-ups, it aint hard.
All clubs submit the three kits, and then once AFL does the fixture it informs the club which kit it will be wearing. If the home team wants to use an alternate for a specific round, they need to let AFL know and it is AFL that must tick it off.
If Collingwood decide to run with our current home as our preferred kit, and the view is that dark based kits and white based kits both don't provide enough contrast it would be time for a few opponents to whip out their CLASH kit.
Carlton are adopting orange for their respects initiative, so use orange as base for a CLASH kit..they have worn yellow and baby blue previously, so as long as they have the CFC emblem everyone gets it is Carlton.
Freo have their "traditional" green and red anchor as a CLASH kit option.
Pies ourselves have run with a BLACK OUT kit for games against North when both normal kits aint really resolved a clash.
Up to clubs if they then want to change alternate and clash kits every year (extra $$ opportunity with fans wanting the "current kit") or just run with the same every year.

Adelaide's home guernsey is already a mess. Then they roll out their shocking multi-coloured clash. Then you have clubs roll out their indigenous or anzac guernseys with more cluttered designs, multiple colours, and sponsors.

It would be ideal if all dark or white clubs wore a clash or away uniform when they're away against Collingwood. In the same situation in OS sports, the club in Collingwood's position ends up relenting because their own fans want to see some opposition teams in their traditional uniforms as well instead of their opposition in unrecognisable away uniforms all the time. It's adds to the experience.
It isn't just Collingwood.
Two teams should never both be in dark jumpers.
Not sure what you are talking about?
They have home kits and away kits, Liverpool fans never get to see ManU play in their Red top at Anfield. What away kit ManU play in changes every year.
The problem with AFL clash policy is that clubs dont adopt full uniform - jumper, shorts and socks - as a kit.

That's right. In reality, Collingwood v Carlton should be same. One team wears their home, the other away.
But Man U and Liverpool can both go to Goodison or Stamford Bridge and wear their home kit which is effectively differentiated to Everton and Chelsea which is what they do. Collingwood's jeckle and hyde home guernsey makes games v clubs that are predominantly black/navy, or predominantly white, a bit of a mess from a viewing point of view. How would Collingwood fans go if all these clubs adopted away/clash strips against them if it got to that stage were AFL play some hardball?

Collingwood's home kit against fully white kits, doesn't clash at all. Not sure where this narrative has come from
Collingwood do our bit, when away to ALL dark teams we bring out the white kit, whether it be Essendon, Carlton, Freo, Adelaide etc.
But some clubs (Carlton) decide to play in white against Freo and Adelaide, but then not against Essendon.
That is what we should do.
Note teams have a preferred full kit. They should wear it home and away if no clash.
I would prefer Richmond to wear the yellow kit, Essendon the red kit etc.
As it would be easier to tell teams apart, which should be the priority.

If I was in charge, that wouldn't be allowed. I would order Freo to wear a different alternate strip.

Particularly in congested situations, when those jumpers are in motion, yep, you betcha I'd have trouble distinguishing between the two instantaneously.
so when you say "I'd", this is a hypothetical to you? Have you actually checked? You know you can do that, right?
This doesn't even approach a clash. It's ridiculous to suggest that these kits are hard to tell apart.

Yes, I've seen several games between Collingwood and teams wearing predominantly white alternate strips. And if I was in charge, Freo would be in predominantly red or green (or yellow, orange, pink or any other colour they choose to embrace) as this would provide much clearer differentiation.
Do you have trouble telling those two kits apart, yes or no?

Again, Yes. In congested situations, when the players are forward facing, is there instantaneous differentiation? In my opinion, no. A lot of white jumping out at you from both jumpers. But as much as I dislike the predominantly white front to Collingwood's preferred jumper, it was their right to wear it and so it's on the League and Freo to come up with something better.
