Traded Junior Rioli (West Coast) - [to Port Adelaide in multi-club trade]

4 year contract. Currently 79th in the AFL player ratings (1 ahead of Connor Rozee) Anything less then a 2nd round pick would be pathetic.

If Willie Rioli is ahead of Connor Rozee in the player ratings then that is a fantastic example of what a useless metric the player ratings are.

Lol.

I called this over a month ago after hearing whispers from locals up here.

A trade will get worked out and we move on.

Port will trade not because Eagles have pick 2 in the psd its that Essendon have one before Port. Bombers tabled an offer, have $$$ and need to sell hope. They will match the contract terms without blinking and grab Jnr for free in the PSD and he wouldn't mind a bit.

He did say "Ï'll do what my manager tells me!" ;) :tearsofjoy:

Which sounds like the instruction was I don't care where I go just get us the best deal and I'll go. :thumbsu:
Where's the noise about Essendon come from?

On the bush teligraph last time Jnr was in Darwin. Aka his cousins.

Had a chat with some of them at a BBQ.

Weeks before the rumors started.

Do you think Essendon would take him in the PSD if there?
Not sure.

Well why isn't WC offering a better deal?
Because we are not idiots.
We are offering a generous 3 years at 500k p.a. apparently. With behaviour strings attached for good reason.
If Port want to go hard with 4 years and more $ and no strings then that is their choice but it also puts his trade value higher than what currently being touted. Irrespective of what he gets traded for, if Port give him that contract I dare say they will regret it in the not too distant future. I dont see him lasting another 4 years.

Responsible Port fans with their fingers and legs crossed hoping to not get Junior Rioli. Please Port offer a 4th Round Pick so we can retreat from the deal.

There aren't that many responsible Port supporters.

Thats why they have 6-8 kids hanging around when they pick up their welfare cheques.

sorry :)

If there is no contract and no one else is risking 4 years, can't Port basically get him for unders? Future 3rd maybe?

If he walks to the PSD then other suitors have to match the years and $$$. I also assume they won't be able to add in any performance clauses etc. WC will need North, Essendon of another club to be happy to take on that length of contract otherwise they will lose all bargaining power.

3*500k is very generous imo

I agree, but it is only on the grapevine. As usual, the punters arent usually privy to this information so has to be taken with a grain of salt.
None the less, word is $s are pretty close but port offering the extra year with fewer clauses. They are taking a fair risk in my book.

If west coast are genuinely offering him 3x500k I cannot see port paying more than that for him and would be dissapointed if we did.. That’s a very good contract for the type and level of player that he is with the baggage that he comes with. Surely he stays if that’s real.
Don't think there is much more money but an extra year with no conditions apparently.

It's ****ing insane. He's a fat campaigner that's never kicked more than 1.3 goals a game, only ever played 1 full season, played half a season this year (poorly), having missed 2 years prior for drugs. I understand why we are into him because the cupboard is bare for small forwards, but that offer is so inflated (and the claim we have exceeded it) just doesn't seem credible. If we are offering 4x on the same money that is the same we paid for Motlop (who as a FA is traditionally paid more as they cost nothing in picks), coming off the back of career best form in a final's series, and evidently not an off-field risk. Someone is telling porkies. 3x350k(the average AFL wage) is exceedingly generous.

Seems to me Georgiades has a longer and potentially better career ahead, I'd be throwing my lot in with him.

The view is we are flush with cash (as we didn't land Merrett last year, swapped Ladhams for Finlayson and have had several retirements this year) so I don't see it as an either-or proposition moneywise. Goergiades did miss plenty of games this year though. I would like to see the old quadrangle of doom back with Dixon/Finlayson/Marshall/Georgiades the preferred option and all of a sudden, the small forwards don't look as bare. If the rumors of contract size are true, the supporters should burn the place down with Fantasia/Rioli gobbling up alot of cap space for not alot of output.

If he stays at West Coast ….. 👍 good. If he wants to come to Port …. alright…. but he is 28 next season and a 4 year deal would be silly…… how many small forwards maintain their zip after 30 ??? His statistics are pretty ordinary and if Fantasia is fit (after his US fitness camp with Travis Boak), Rioli would be unlikely to be picked. As far as I am concerned, I wouldn’t be offering any more than a third or fourth round pick and if that doesn’t get it …. so be it. His history of lack of fitness, fiddling with drug tests , usage of social ”substances“ and very inconsistent form doesn’t exactly excite me !!!

This isn't remotely true. Rioli would get a game in every forward line in the league, and even if he wouldn't, he'd definitely get a game in our garbage forward line.

Noted this is from Rowie so how much truth to it - he said $650k per year and Ginever didn’t correct him or query the figure

That suggest you guys have offered him 4@$650k per year! $2.6m contract

I don’t believe that could possibly be accurate but if it is WC will push hard for either the Amon compo or a future second rounder

Rowie is a ****ing idiot, you surely have to know that? He's also a known Adelaide troll, you could have told me he claimed we were offering 2mil x 20 years and i'd believe it. We've had a nasty habit of overpaying for trades of late and should have plenty of free cap space but 4x500k isn't believable. Dunkley should be asking for a mil if that number is true.

As other people have said, money doesn't equal picks. I can see a thought process of 'the guy is worth 350k at best but we have the money so 2-3 years at 500k could interest him instead of a longer contract and it wasn't going to be spent anyway'. I don't see a 4 year deal + a near 1st round pick being even in the realm of possibility. Just Looney Toons fantasy level rubbish. Maybe a future 4th and the Jizz encrusted lint in my belly button could get me checks notes Rachelle.

And you heard on SEN Port fanboi Rucci suggesting it will cost the Amon compo with the contract size. Looks like you blokes are all in for Jnr
