Geez idy, whilst im enraged at a third successive loss...last I checked Geelong havent lost a game this season (6-0) and are a firm flag fav and were 1-3 on last night. we're on a mission to make the 8, not sure losing to Geelong should derail that:confused: bugga me, youd be claiming a fellas career's over after a l;oss to Roger Federer...get some perspective pal
i suspect that youve taken this as new thread Pal without realising its an old bumped one . read my recent post

Mate we re back in the muck , the next month will be the tale of the tape, and we better come through for mine .....if i was dimma id give up on a couple of these blokes coz theyll take him with their flagging careers. We have some youngsters that have shown enough that they deserve a chance, Dea, Arnot...Astbury, Griffith .....i worry we are banging on with the likes of Mcguane and Vckery that to me have severe limitations. If theres a choice bw jacko and tuck, how the heck does jacko get the gig.....alot for the brains trust to work through, i reckon we have some material to work with and i look forward to seeing how we dig ourselves out, in the past its these ruts that have cost us a spot in the finals

Stevie J and Selwood provided an absolute masterclass in how to undo a mentally fragile football team .

Our Football dept. needs to spend a good 48 hours with our whole list going over that last 10 minutes of the second quarter and rub their noses in it as one would with with a puppy that shits on the carpet to make sure it never happens again .

We cannot learn enough from that little passage of football ... Two players single-handedly through nouse , brilliance and experience turned a football game around on their own . Be great test for Dimma and Co. to quickly erase the demons and get us back on track
Yeah fully concur, i haven't seen the replay but i think it was SJ that gave young Vlas a bone jarring tackle that just about buried the kid, to his credit he bounced up, and i think that is why cotch sat him on his arse. I love the look of vlas,is tough and committed at the contest. I hope arnot gets a crack he s a wild young buck, perhaps a missing ingredient

that 10in was harder to watch than the 2nd half, worse still it was the leaders that failed the test
the 2nd half was just a battered side being beat

iam looking forward to seeing arnot play i have likedthe look of him at coburg

From what was said during pre season, young Arnot is really keen to get a gig on the big stage. The time has come to give him a crack.

The thread that keeps on giving...

& the joy continues....

Inspired thread creation back then IDGAF, was always going to be bumpable for the next few seasons.
(Then again, perhaps not so inspired.... pretty obvious sadly!)

Serious questions need to start being asked of Hardwick.

Before anyone starts with the whole "here we go again, sack the coach eat our own" line - well let me tell you that's just another bullshit media created myth that dates back to 80's & 90's when it might've been true then but isn't now yet you're all still swallowing. I don't care what the rest of footy world will say because they will say it anyway and they laugh at us anyway. Fact is we've only had three coaches this century (not counting Rawlings) Frawley saw out his full five years, Wallace only went 3/4 of the way through his 5th & last year - Hardwick is on an extension and already in his 4th year. That's three coaches in fourteen seasons. Quite a few clubs have had as many if not more in that time. So don't give me any "instability" nonsense -time to judge the bloke on results and by "results" I mean the W/L columns - nothing else.

Dunno about serious questions just yet but I must say that his post match interviews last night surprised me.

He really looked flat which I guess is to be expected but it was more like a resigned look that he realised that we are a long way off the Geelong's of the comp + I reckon he really was disappointed in our output and effort when under the blowtorch of a quality unit.

He was almost too calm & not at all angry... once again it will be an interesting next 6 - 7 days for the club & coach.

Don't get me wrong - not advocating sacking the bloke during the season, but if the rest of the year pans out poorly then his position needs to be reassessed at the end of it IMO.

What drugs are you guys on???

We have clearly steadily improved. What did you expect??

We still have some list cloggers, Lids and Cotch had down does both our ruckman went down.

Under the circumstances, and the fact we were up 19 points at one point, definitely improved!!!:thumbsu:

The umps gave them a couple of goals as well.

We are in touching distance, but if you thought our lit was near the best just yet your dreaming, but we are getting closer definitely!!

Mate...
Dimma and the Coaches plus the Admin have all put in the hard work to get this proud club up and running...
Some of our players need to do likewise...
Its not the end of the world...and its not going to be easy...just hard work and hard knocks...
30 years of mediocrity aint going to change around that quickly...
Losses like last night are painfull reality checks that reveal to everyone at our proud club that we all need to work harder for success...
And not to drink our own bathwater every time we get talked up in the media...
We need to regroup...adopt a hard nose professionalism and team work ethic...not roll over cos we lost and copped a few injuries...
Opportunity awaits us tigers....lets go...:thumbsu:

Goals from turnovers was a joke last night. Goes to the OPs point to a degree, just no composure when real heat is turned on. And it only takes a couple of cockups to ruin the game.
Geelong are too good a side to be undermanned. After Ivan and TV went down our centre clearances went south and stoppages were cooked as well.
It's a fine line, but we just aren't good enough yet to withstand injuries like we copped last night against real quality. And mentally we must improve.
Severe reality check.

Mental strength as a team...as demonstrated by Geelongs wonderful efforts last night...comes from teamwork and a belief in the game plan..
Geelong players are hardened and play for each other and their great side...throw in great skills...professionalism and whatever else you want to call it...
Mentally those geelong players know they can rely on each other...they never give up...they may get beaten but they never ever give up...
That sort of pride...belief and mental strength is just not evident in our side...just yet...
hell if I know that as a spectator/supporter...some of those Richmond players know that as well...
hell every other side in the comp must know that about us as well...
hell even the opposition supporters...the media...Lyons...
We crumble under continued applied pressure...under pressure our skills deteriorate...under pressure our game plan suffers...
We were good for nearly two quarters last night...nearly...and that's it...not good enough...end of story...
How can you have a mentally tough side when you know as a player from experience some of your team mates are not up to it...
Under pressure some of your team mates produce clangers...mistakes...don't run to the correct position...protect the ball carrier...offer an option...
It guts you...it guts the Coaches...it guts the supporters and it guts the Administrators...and it guts the more talented and skilled players in the side...
To be a top side their has to be no doubt in your mind that you are the best...no doubt in your players minds at all...no room for it...
Diamonds take years to form and harden...so do good sides...we have only just begun tigers...lets go...opportunity awaits us...:thumbsu:

Agree, the boys are a work in progress.

I think we are, in a way, a victim of our own 'competiveness' last year.
Stay with me while I try to explain.
Our biggest losing margin last year was 22 points vs Freo in perth. By anyone's standards that is remarkably competitive. Even Hawthorn suffered a huge loss last year (ironically by 72 to Richmond) and North Melbourne (a finals combatant) lost by over 100. I remember Geelong touching up Collingwood by 96 the year the Pies won the flag.
The point I am trying to make is that last year's incredibly competitive season was never going to be maintained. Already we have lost by 34 to Collingwood and now 44 to Geelong.
I think what disappoints me, and all of us, is that we probably expected the side to be able to beat a Collingwood or a Geelong. That one-point loss last week is looking very costly now.
So we are probably a victim of our own expectation in a way, that was brought on by last year. I think some of got sucked into thinking we will never be heavily beaten again, which is simply impossible.
I'm really disappointed today. We got outclassed by a side that was supposedly having its window shut. What Chris Scott has had the luxury of doing (and full credit to him for doing it) is that he has brought in the likes of Smedts, Horlin-Smith, Duncan, Christensen and Guthrie to play with some of the champions of the game and learn from them. And he hasn't just thrown them all in together, too. he's introduced them one by one and then given them a spell so that the overall performance of the team doesn't suffer. it's shrewd player management by Geelong, but it's also a luxury they could afford. We haven't had that luxury.
And while champions such as Scarlett, Ling, Ottens etc have retired, they have planned for it and brought in some talented kids to learn from them while they can.
Once again, we simply don't have that luxury and I think many of us (perhaps including the coach) have underestimated just how difficult our rebuild of three years ago was going to be.

Carlton beat us by 44 points in round 1. I know you don't want to remember it, but it happened.

This post is exactly the reason Terry Wallace killed the club. He refused to play the kids other than top 10 draft picks robbing them the opportunity to play with Bowden , Richo and a host of other senior players.

We made the cats look good. We went from being in control of the match 20 minutes into the 2nd to throwing away the lead 10 minutes later with stupid mistakes. We threw in the towel once they got a 3 goal lead. Very disappointing effort

End of the world.
