And just when I thought that 24 hours would be enough for people to be more rational about this, boy was I wrong.

So Longmuir states that yeterdays scratchie was a wake up call. How many bloody wake up calls do we need to actually wake up?
I have a conspiracy theory that they're doing this deliberately (not showing what we really can do) to set expectations at rock bottom so they can come out and surprise Brisbane.
One can hope.

I've never got those sort of vibes from JL before so I'd be surprised.

... maybe that's what he wants us to think...

Most people just want the team to be good. We are in the 5th year of JL and our best players are no longer kids. It’s time to deliver.
Question - if we are bottom 4 this year would you sack JL?
Not excusing any potential shit coaching this season but we are still one of the youngest teams in the comp. Not an excuse we should hide behind but a reason to temper expectations.

So much depends if we can get close to our best 22 on the park in the early rounds. As we saw last night we have zero depth in any area except the midfield & we have no true wingers which is the worst problem.

If we trot out last nights team we will go 0-5. I’m still in shock with how utterly awful Sturt & Treacy were when playing without Amiss & Jackson.

Doesn’t help I’m watching Adelaide - Tex, Fogarty, Rankine, Rachelle.

If I’m coaching I have Simpson from Rd 1. We are so desperate for clean & classy players I’m fast tracking him.

I think we had nine of our best 30 players out last night so no depth is perhaps a bit harsh - I’m counting Will Brodie in that even though he was just left out btw. I honestly think Draper and even Banfield would’ve offered more than some of the players selected.

What is obvious though is that some of our depth players can’t handle a significant amount of the best 22 guys not being there and tbh I’m not sure any other list is much different. That’s fine to degree if they can perform when say 4 out of best 6 of our best forwards are available. Instead I think we had 4 out of best 6 forwards unavailable - JL has already declared all four as starters for round one.

I’m not sure you can judge Adelaide tbh. West Coast are last years wooden spooners for a reason. I would have Adelaide in my top eight but - just think West Coast really suck. Also wonder how their forward would look without the four players you just mentioned.

I'd also be interested in seeing the record of clubs flying interstate for essentially scratch matches. I think we cleaned up Port last year, did we not?

That's been this board towards Longmuir for the last year honestly.
On a thread full of over reacting this is up there with the larger over reactions.

This time last year we hadn’t played a game and JL was highly in favour.

Go back through Pt 1 and anyone calling for him to be sacked were shouted down pretty quick.

Yes people are over reacting to the port game, as some did with the WCE game. He is out of contract and has a team expected to improve on last season. To say that the reflection of the board here is losing the plot over Longmuir throughout the last 12 months is a massive over reaction.

Sure. I agree but I don’t think we have players of the caliber of Rankine & Rachelle out. That’s the level of quality we need around Amiss & Jackson. Walters will hopefully play beyond this season as I’m sure they’re hoping with Tex.

I'd sack him if we don't make finals/the 8, never mind bottom 4. Made finals in '22, went backwards in '23.

There's only one direction we should be going at this stage of the 'rebuild'.

Your job as coach is to change the game plan if it isn't working, regardless of who the cattle are. Haven't seen a lot of willingness.

Keep doing what you've always done expecting different results = the definition of insanity.

1-4 start to season, will be significant noise

2-7 and Gonski

For me, if his pressers are representative of how he engages internally, then it's why we are conservative and flat

Couldn't motivate a fart after a night of Indian food

So '23 below expectation performance is Longmuir... Any other years we exceeded expectations was due to something else?
