To his credit, Kane Kornes is better at stirring shit in the media to promote his own work than he ever was a footballer.

Its low picking fruit though, it mostly revolves around causing controvesy around Collingwood. His own club, or any other non vic clubs, no one really cares about enough.

Let's face it, AA has been a joke for 25 years.
It's a bunch of media loonies who live in their bubble, and a couple of executives that only care about PR

The problem is there is about 5-6 x key lots of stats/data that can be called upon to support your argument, and Cornes is an expert at doing this.
It doesn’t make him wrong, it just makes him selective.

There’s the AFL Player Ratings & SC points.

There’s the coaches votes.

There’s the actual stats.

There’s the performance of the team they play for.

There’s the intangible ‘eye test’ (doesn’t hurt the opposition).

So early in season when TT’s SC points and majority of stats were off the charts, Cornes calls on ‘doesn’t hurt the opposition’, coach’s votes, his DE% and Player Ratings.

Then Richmond wins a few games, he moves into 9th in coach’s votes and he has 30+ and kicks 4-goals, and he continues with ‘Player Ratings’ only.

He does this with all players he is critical of. If the ‘Player Ratings’ are good he reverts to stats. If the stats are good and the player ratings are good he will fall back on a lack of coach’s votes. If they are all good he will fall back on the performance of the team and say they don’t have enough impact, or he’ll say a midfielders stats are good but he doesn’t kick enough goals / lay enough tackles / get enough clearances (insert any one of 50 stats here).

Only a very, very small number of players tick the box of all the tangible measurements available to us.

So it’s manna from heaven for Kane, where he can dig out any metric he wants at any time to continue slagging off a player and can almost never be required to say he was wrong.

But it makes for good listening, but as Dimma said
many weeks ago, Kane often doesn’t believe what he’s saying, but he knows what will drive attention. TT not in the top-150 players in the competition is exhibit A. If he said he’s probably not top-50 it doesn’t make a headline.

Kane knows what he’s doing.

Let’s face it, The AA team is a popularity contest and the chance for the AFL to gain a few more days of media coverage in its news cycle, and it’s only saving grace is that it provides some recognition for non-midfielders.

We dont care because the AFL doesnt give a **** about that and instead selects media flogs who think themselves smarter than they are who every year make terrible selections.
