Keeping Tippett an uphill battle: Crows

If walker kicked 7 I would be doing somersaults. But too be honest, when Tippett has a good game I dont got excited because I know full well its more than likely in 2011 he wont be a Crow player.

If he hasn't signed by the start of the 2010 season I would seriously consider playing the likes of Seallar or McKernan instead of him. They are our future, Tippett isn't.

Has anyone seen this:

Despite Adelaide coach Neil Craig saying this week that his club "faced an uphill battle" to retain Tippett, outgoing Crows general manager of football operations John Reid said yesterday he remained confident of keeping the Queenslander for the long term. "Kurt has indicated he loves being here; he's bought a house here," Reid said. "He's happy and we're happy to talk at the end of the year about a contract extension."

No one's mentioned Andy Otten as yet. His contract runs out at the end of this year, and as such, I seriously hope he is one of the current priorities for resigning.

But when push comes to shove, it's not everything.

These boys are after the ultimate in AFL - a premiership. Reckon they'll be clever enough to recognise they'll be more likely to get one (sooner rather than later) at the Crows than the Gold Coast. ;)

I wonder though... the general feeling is that the Gold Coast team have such enormous concessions that they will be a huge force from the 2015-2020 period - a period in which Tippett would be expecting to still be playing for at least part of it.

I don't think he'll leave us though and I really wish people would stop making the "if he hasn't signed up this year stop playing him" comment.

Surely given our list compared to the stars the Gold Coast will have with all their concessions, we could offer Tippett more, or at least as much as GC17.
Look at our list currently, who there is worth the genuinely big bucks, theres no Rievoldts, Fevs or Judds in there. I can't see how the salary cap could be a problem for us.

Jenny, the Gold Coast will be a genuine top four chance from when their young stars mature to when they begin to decline. Of course there are many variables including which mature stars they recruit, coaching, management and plain luck but roughly estimating, you're be looking at a period spanning somewhere around 2015 to 2025, give or take a couple of years on each.

The AFL has correctly identified that this new club needs success in the near future to help attract support, both corporate and fans, to enable GC to succeed. The rules put in place dictate that with any sort of reasonable management they'll be a force to be reckoned with.

If Tippett goes I'll be upset but still think we have some excellent KPP options in reserve

That said I still expect Tippett to stay .......he has said he loves being part of the Crows and IMO his manager is simply negotiating the best deal for his client

That said if he did decide to go ..........I agree with Cro Mo that it would be in our best interest to do a trade with BRISBANE ......in that way we maximize our return

Can't see Tippett opposed to that ......gets to be at same club as his brother, get back to Queensland .....and helps Adelaide get a suitable trade

IMO there is way too many variables and factors to make that TOP 4 statement

Yes the AFL want the GC to be successful however I cant see them challenging for the flag within the first decade, this comp is just too tough and they are starting way behind the 8 ball

I doubt that we're in any position to combat them financially at all. They have a list which is full of teenagers, all of whom would be on minimum salary. Our list contains some teenagers, but very few players would be on minimum wages.

To compound matters, the GC have a significantly higher salary cap than the existing teams for their first few years - something like 20% in their first season.

We can certainly put together a competitive package, but if money is the only consideration then he's as good as gone. Thankfully, I doubt that money will be the key factor when he makes his decision.

To be fair though, Tippett won't be the only guy getting offered big money. It's not like they can just open the chequebook and ask him to name his price. If he is their biggest target, though, that won't help us much.

Surely, the crows would have enough money to keep Tippet and Walker, especially when Edwards, Goodwin and Mcleod retire.

And if Craig can convince a couple of naive youngsters to play for nothing, the salary cap won't be an issue.

The GC team will be successful because the AFL wont allow another Brisbane Bears situation to happen and the Crows will not be the only club to have to deal with this kind of thing from them.

Another beautiful example of BF group think.

How this has become accepted as a given is beyond me. It is possible, maybe even probable, but short of rigging games it is impossible for the AFL to guarantee success.

Well... In the the Foxtel commentary team mentioned before that Scott Clayton (GC recruiting manager) was at the ground watching the game. No doubt he'll have a talk to Kurt.

Been watching your team very closely and I think ya youngsters are gonna be really good. Andy Ottens good, Tippett and Walker are gonna be stars. Petrenko looks lively and Bernie VInce has popped out, out of nowhere. Hopefully my club can recruit similarly and rise back up the ladder.
