Why has Zane Trew fallen so far from ratings earlier this year?

Has played some good footy this year, but hasn't stepped up meaningfully since last year when he had his 40 and 10 game (disposals and tackles). He's someone to look at as - his inside work is terrific. He wins it contested, tackles, dishes by hand. But what else can he do?

As a mid at the next level, when that's all you bring to the table, it's hard to accommodate you unless you're an absolute freak of a midfielder. That's why he has dropped out of the first round mix and is viewed more-so as a second or third rounder, and that's why he's well outside my top-20 power rankings.

Good by foot, decent overhead too but I get your point. Though that is exactly what most inside mids do - extract and get it out to players who can finish.

Reported two days before the draft that they had settled on Rayner: https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/...k/news-story/1206e488d12f37caade3b59a2e68c034

McCartin is the other one that seemed to flip late. Petracca was seen as likely No.1 until shortly before the draft, much like McCluggage in 2016. To answer the question - I feel like if Adelaide was going the obvious choice of Logan McDonald, wouldn't we know by now? But that's probably just my North heart believing what it wants to.
I remember Nobel on draft saying they still hadn't decided until 30 minutes before the draft sending a text to Rayner with a picture of a Lion

Most inside midfielders aren’t the greatest disposal effectively

Sometimes a picture is worth 1000 words. The "analysis" of North Melbourne is so far off the mark that words would fail anyone.

Not really not bothering to respond to it properly is frankly lazy...especially for someone who watches as much junior footy as Pykie does. If youre not prepared to articulate your thoughts dont criticise those who do is my motto.

If the Bombers got Jack Carroll with one of 6, 7 or 8, is that a big reach? Can he be the big inside gun mid for the them.

Earlier than I'd take Carroll, but not by a lot. He's someone I'd have in the conversation without being my preference.

He probably goes closer to pick 20 on draft day, but I think he'll be better than where he's rated.

Surely if the Bombers have an interest in Carroll they trade out #8 for 2 later picks to maximize their points or the ability to get another player along with Carroll. Pies #16 + 2021 1st rounder for #8+2021 2nd or something to that effect would be more around the value of carroll and the bonus of future

Essendon can always trade down to Collingwood's picks for Carroll, and he should be there. And it's probably not a bad option when he's of largely the same quality as the other mids who would be considered in Essendon's range anyway.

Club recruiters may disagree, but I don't see any meaningful difference between pick 7/8 and something like pick 14/16 before bids. So if eg. I could flip 7 for 14+16 and get a future first for pick 8, from a team that may not be a top-8 team. Fantastic outcome if I'm in Essendon's position.

Hi Knightmare
Do you think Carlton would be reaching if the took Jacob Wehr with one of its picks in the 30s?

Can use it obviously and really improved this year. So he has his fans. 30s is higher than I'd take Wehr, but it could well be where he needs to be taken if you want to be safe and secure him with some certainty. He's one of those late second who could get picked, or he could go undrafted. The draft this year after the first roughly 30 or so is pretty open like that.

Knightmare, I appreciate your work...but you’ve got to be extracting the proverbial if you’ve got Marty Gleeson/Matthew Kennedy/Connor Ballenden in the top 30.

You realise that every club had the chance to pick these guys up for absolutely zero and there’s been no interest?

Personally i think thats something like what the bombers will be angling for
Keep 6
trade 7 for #14+ #16
trade 8 for 2021 Pies 1st rounder + 2nd rounder

They would then have 2020 picks #6 + #14 + #16
2021 Pies 1st rounder + Pies 2nd rounder (they have 3 i believe ) + Bombers 1st rounder

Would be a bloody good hand for Bombers for 2 years running and the Pies would have picks #7 + #8 + Reef

All depends on where Pies finish next year would be a fantastic deal for Essendon if Pies slide which is a big possibility

Biggest one I disagree with you on here is poulter, I have him in my top 20 and am quite bullish on him, think he has what it takes to become that prototype big body mid
He was at 13 in his rankings in September, a fair drop
