Hi KM,
Is Aish capable of playing AFL football in 2014 - most likely with the MFC? How does he compare with Toumpas (age for age) who played his best AFL level game against the Saints? How is Aish's pace?
Cheers, M

Aish can play in 2014. His game is more advanced than Toumpas. He was playing senior footy since 16 which is very impressive and he's more than help his own from the start.

He has pace and can break the lines. Not freak pace but certainly very good pace.

Hey KM when are you planning on doing a 3rd round?

This weekend if I can find the time.

I completed a quick update of my power rankings last weekend but the past weeks when not watching footy I've been following the NBA draft which will hold my interest for only another 2-3 days until that's finished.

Fair call. Reckon Cavs go Noel or Len?

Having him space the floor for Kyrie (and Waiters) to take it to the rack would be very handy

Edit. The sentence before that was supposed to say Wouldn't rule out McLemore.

Anyhoo, back to the AFL, Ben Lennon, projecting long term as a Wing/mid? or more a back flanker in the Hurn/McKenzie style?

We've drafted so many HBFs with the intention to turn them into midfielders, which is all well and good, but reckon we're in need of a proper running outside midfielder.

It will be interesting to watch.

I'd favour Noel of the pair despite the recent push for Len. Coming back from the ACL makes it less clear with Noel but I think he'll be ok and be one of the few who will develop into a clear starting quality player and become something similar to a Marcus Camby which is a good outcome considering that whole top 10 is so unclear with probably less than half even becoming role players long term.

Other than Noel I'm really liking Victor Oladipo, Trey Burke and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope as starters with CJ McCollum, Allen Crabbe, Erick Green and Mike Muscala my likely picks as role players in their various draft ranges (though with these types it always comes down to who lands them and whether the team and player are the right fit for one another). Then Glen Rice JR and Rudy Gobert are others who intrigue who may or may not make it.

I'd go Noel too. It's going to be interesting because the order is so open. Miami not having a pick is annoying. Needed Philly to make playoffs. Was hoping we might get someone like Gobert or the Big Brazilian kid whose name now escapes me as athletic bigs. Oh well.

Thanks Knightmare. Love what you do?

After Boyd who do you rate as the next best forward?

Marsh I feel is largely overrated by the media at the moment. Recent talk has been of him going not only first round but top 10 which is incredible for a short key forward. My expectation is that he slips into the second round somewhere. He's pretty similar as an undersized athletic forward to Mason Wood last year with similar athleticism, marking ability and versatility at that height. He looks best suited up the ground perhaps as an athletic half forward so I wouldn't say he's going to kick bags for you.

Hourigan is another who could land in the second round and is a more powerful, deeper marking forward who more likely will hit the scoreboard as this years Tim Membrey.

Hourigan is the better forward with Marsh more a versatile tall who is better suited up the field.

I agree, but Toumpas had been playing seniors since 16 too - seemingly not a huge indication of how players will go in a terrible team :p (Jimmy's been pretty good when in the VFL too)

Jimmy's just struggling for fitness and has lost his pace (which was a huge asset) due to his post champs hip ops.

Weird draft as far as Tasmanian's are concerned Knightmare?
Usually the Tasmanian team is full of inside player, but it appears to be full of damaging outside runners?
How much do you know about the big ruckman of theirs that got 27 disposals the other day against Queensland? Late pick up?

KM, how has Sam Heavyside been going so far this year?
Is he a chance for a late pick or even a rookie pick?

He is a chance and is having a red hot go again. One of the more natural midfielders who despite being a smaller type just knows who to win it inside.
He is a chance as a rookie with continued improvement and strong form.

Your thinking of Lucas Nogueira (the Brazilian). Just seems like too much of a project to me for a non worker and will really need to land in the right situation if he is to become anything. Though probably the same story with Gobert.

It's probably a draft you could buy your way into the 1st round pretty easily not that I recommend it.

Thanks Knightmare. Love what you do?

After Boyd who do you rate as the next best forward?

Probably Hourigan. Cameron Conlon, Cain Tickner and Mitchell Harvey are others who could be considered as second round and onward prospects.

Aish was the youngest to debut in the seniors (SANFL) and was also considered the best under 16 ever from SA by those who have followed him closely.

Hey KM, any chance that Geelong would snap up Gardiner with Pick 17 and D.Garlett with pick 30-40?

If there I think Geelong would strongly consider Gardiner.

Garlett it's hard to say who is interested. To this point only Essendon have confirmed interest but any number of teams if he's still there in the second round could take a look.

It's a good group this year.

Nankervis is playing some very good footy at the moment and is a big improver from last year as a key forward/ruckman.

He could even be a mid draft option if a club likes him but late draft/rookie probably more likely.

Interesting phantom draft once again Knightmare, thanks. Must say it would be rather perfect if Freo were able to pick up a kid like Mitchell Harvey in the second round. Any reason (other than him playing school footy) you think he may still be available at our second pick? I notice you chose him before Conlon.

I'm not sure where this claim that 'playing school footy' has held Mitch back at all. Mitch played U18 with Nth Adelaide and some Reserves SANFL with North last year (and kicked goals). This year he has continued playing school footy with St. Peter's College (same school as Riley Knight), but has not been held back from State matches by the school at all.
Riley has had the exact same commitments to school as Mitch and Riley has rocketed up the draft board.
The recruiters watch most of the College games anyway and so will have a very clear idea as to what they can and can't do from there. Mitch will get picked where he deserves to be picked, the school matches haven't hidden him at all. Sorry no bargains here anymore!

Hey KM, first time caller, long time listener. Two names that stick out to me are Clayton McCartney & Mitch Honeychurch; where do you see them going in the draft and will the Dees will pick one up?

Always an interesting read, I believe one player you have underestimated is Kade Kolodjashnij from Tasi, his form so far this year in his TAC cup appearances and the championships is outstanding, as you stated he has exciting pace and terrific ball use. However i think he has also proved he can win his own ball although you are right he is more likely to be a deliverer of the ball than inside getting it out. I see him as a possible top 10, if he last to the Bulldogs second pick I would be wrapped.

Have you had a second look at his write up based on his form so far?

The second/third round is probably if rated by other recruiters around the position Mitchell Harvey would likely land.

I largely have him ahead of Conlon because we haven't really seen yet Conlon this year to be able to correctly assess his game.

Clayton McCartney could be a fit for Melbourne. He has pace and could fill that small forward post you're probably missing at present. Never easy to assess with those forwards exactly where they will land. He may come onto the radar of some clubs in the second round but I see him more as a third round onward selection.

Honeychurch is probably more of a late draft selection being a shorter type but he's another good one Melbourne should look at strongly because he can win it through the midfield but then also influence games up forward which is a big tick. With further strong form it's very possible that he moves up the draft rankings further, particularly if he reproduces that game he pulled out v WA but with so many sub 180cm types that draft range at this point is unclear.

Kolodjashnij is looking like a first rounder certainly. I have him well inside my top 20 power rankings which I updated last weekend and I expect he'll be a first round selection.

I still see him remaining an outside type (which doesn't have to be a bad thing). There is such a difference between winning the footy against 18 year olds and men. I may be underselling him in my bio from a ball winning but I don't see that inside game as a feature just yet.

Every player review is constantly under review and will continue to be edited so as players games expand so do my bios. I may yet further tinker with Kolodjashnij's review yet as I see further games.

KM Lachie Weller how old is he and can he get drafted this year

Weller is draft eligable next year. He's 17 at present.

If the 2014 draft happened tomorrow he'd be a top 5 selection the way he's going.

Certainly behind Hugh Goddard and Clem Smith but he's be in that next group to be looked at. Still so much footy to be played till next year that others have time to move past him.

What other 17 year olds impress you at the moment ?

Hugh Goggard, Clem Smith and Jake Lever are my top 3 at this point.

Lachie Weller and Alec Waterman also impressive and would round out my 5 for now.
